Gonna need a new name for on-chain zaps. They're not Lightning. There is no "zap" involved. Someone call up the head of marketing and put some top Nostriches on it.

What’s an on chain zap?
Zapless chaps
I think we go trad and say 'tip'.
Seems like no one likes it anyway lol
I don’t think there’s a need for a new name at all.
All three should be called “zaps”:
-ecash
-lightning
-on chain
It’s all energy money. Zap still applies.
Call it Plapping. That's the sound of the devs jerking themselves off for figuring out "What if we used a DIFFERENT private key as a BITCOIN private key?! WOAAAAHH!"
Unicorns. :trillian-grandpa:
👆 this
mats (main-chain + zaps)?
It’s better unified branding for Nostr. We shouldn’t spread it out and make it confusing.
Tips is all I can come up with right now
I just implemented for digital trade documentation.
I guess @utxo the webmaster 🧑💻 was ahead of his time with the whole ₿ thing 😂
All chaps are zapless
Tips.
Bolts? ChainTip?
Zips
Bitcoin transaction.
Ground breaking.
Tip would probably make sense to most people. At least in western cultures.
😂
GasLightning
I second this Nostr is confusing enough already.
We should be consolidating the complexities, and making it more flat for the baseline experience for beginner users, and allow advanced users to customize their own experience more precisely once they figure it out.
The money transmission layer should be as secular, open, and versatile as possible.
Let’s call them Doxxings, lemme doxx you some Bitcoins.
Doxxtip. It's a tip but with a big doxxing danger.
Hear me out
Noob: What is a zip?
Pleb or whatever you are calling each other now: It is a tip from a zap.
Everyone knows what a tip is...so now it is a zip.
So true.
Send money
Okay, you convinced me with that. KIIS. Keep it simple, stupid.
Though I feel at some point someone will ask how did you zap me or where did you zap me. Ultimately this is a UX issue.
Yessir
Lightning is the universal layer. We don’t need ecash zaps when LN can already handle ecash, without the shared mint issue.
Don’t call this turd “zaps”
Zaps were almost called Bolts. Thankfully @jb55 saved us.
Hey man nice note lemme send you one of those bitcoin transactions.
Ecash for offline zaps. Works well with FIPS. Don’t sleep on it!
cc @Arjen
I hear you, but let's work on it.
“Offline” payments with ecash are vulnerable to double spends.
Yes. Let's think over the next days about better and safer methods for on-chain tips.
Yeah it’s a tradeoff. Requires trust for a time period. Ideally you get back online at some point and sweep within a relatively short time period. Think about temporary disruptions and locales with spotty internet.
Silent payments, would fix it.
Block/blocked
Stone/stoned
Pool/pooled
Endowment/endowed
‘Cast/‘casted
Bang/banged
"blocked" is used for something very different. When I block you, I can't see your posts.
Or PM8T + notification address (BIP-47).
History loves repeating and rhyming, doesn't it? :beatcat:
Agree i think it’s a UX issue… clients can make it relatively seamless. It’s on the roadmap
What good is an IOU I can’t even prove was sent to me with not even a single piece of proof to say that they are a scammer?
Or, even worse, an IOU that may have been passed through multiple people, any of which could rug me without any risk of being identified.
On top of this, everyone has to have trust in the same mint, which is impossible.
Socially inept #cointard can't build trust relationships.
Just use the right tool for the right job. Doesn’t work well with random people I agree. Risky over long periods of time offline I agree.
Keeping commerce flowing within a community that’s been knocked offline though? Making a transaction on a plane with my friend? Somewhere with spotty signal for small amounts? Let’s use our imagination before dismissing a tech entirely.
Let’s keep it respectful!
Base taps
Let's call it a "tox" as it is as toxic as the combination of taxxing + doxxing
Only one of these usecases is realistic, and in that case barter or people signing IOU’s is going to be much more likely to work (with proper accountability) than ecash which can be rugged with 0 reputation risk.
Just call it "doxx", it's cleaner.
I haven't received any doxxes yet, but I saw Vitor getting one doxx.
How do these doxx you?
Zips
Explain rugged with zero reputation risk I’m not following. Is the user not choosing their mints?
You can see every past and future transactions of at least one address with tools like

The Mempool Open Source Project®
Explore the full Bitcoin ecosystem with The Mempool Open Source Project®. See the real-time status of your transactions, get network info, and more.
doxxathon?

If someone gives me an ecash token I can’t know how many people or who has already passed it. And if any one of them rugs by spending a token they already gave to someone else (or giving the same token to two people), you have no way to know who did it
Plus address reuse.
Calling a spade a spade.
onchain is doxxing. lightning is just fakable receipts. the only legitimate public display is cashu but even then you still have to verify the mint actually is legit anyway. the whole zap receipts thing is stupid. people spending energy on this when much more important issues like the endless flood of openclaw posted trash is flooding relays and feeds
Thanks that's what I thought.
I came in to say Chaps, but this is much better
The person who gave you it is risking their reputation
Look man I’m probably not gonna be the one to change your mind. Love your recent work on NIP-44! Cheers.
Yes but what if they took it from someone else.
All you can do is finger point and you can’t know who is lying
Bolts
Better be 5$ worth.
Don't be a cheap stake ya hurd
Bitpub
Slap. Because it seems non consensual and uncomfortable.
Or teabag.
Or writing a check lol
*Lemme send you some bitcoin
*Lemme send you some corn
At least that how we used to say it back in the day.
Still my vote 😌🦄
This is what I keep calling it lol
Its a "link" in the blockchain

Bitcoin Twitter loved the corn.
I just “transacted” you.
Imagine the following scenario: You’re inside a country that got temporarily disconnected from the internet. You can use FIPS to communicate with a local Cashu mint and keep transacting.
This is not really offline but you wouldn’t be able to transact bitcoin otherwise.
Slugs 🐌
Well, it does highlight the speed compared to a zap 🤣
Onchain doxxing reminds me of [random bullshit]
[link to fake and gay website]
I’m not saying I’m like….clairvoyant or anything….but I am saying…I was here about 2 days & I knew zaps needed to become unicorns😌🦄🧚🏼♀️
i think the coloquial term for them on chain is "dust" 🫠
What does cheesy mean?
Finally a use case for "bits"
Papz as in like paparazzi
Doxx + zap -> Zoxx
Chap ( chain zap) 😸
A whip... as in chain... whip...
cointoss
What about Link ?
onzap
100,000%. There's too much circle-jerking. I'm vibe-coding some apps I want to see and I'm avoiding mentioning Nostr. I mean I can generate them an account and tell em "this is your username/password, copy em somehwere!" without being evangelistic about nostr or definitely not bitcoin.
We must learn: Most people will never come over as long as we keep mentioning bitcoin lmao.
Bro agreed lol. Zaps are NOT what's gonna be popular about these sites for normies.
Yep. Normies do not wake up wanting zaps. They want apps that do not eat their identity. Zaps matter when they disappear into the UX and still pay the people making the feed worth reading.
I always say an NSEC/Ncryptsec should be displayed as a master recovery key rather than an “NSEC” and if users want an explanation just add an ℹ️ logo that explains more about Nsecs.
Some platforms already have master keys that overwrite hackers, etc. so I think that concept is more familiar to people.
What's the point of these? Why pay a fee when you can use Lightning?
I agree. This is a solution to the friction and/or centralization of on-boarding to Lightning. It has several trade offs though.
Donations
How much for the zip?
Hilarious!

Just the tips
High fees and address reuse… don’t know if the trade off is worth it
Bap
slog
verb, noun, adjective (rhymes with log)
"Slog me some sats bro"
"Thanks for the slogs!"
"Is slogging good or bad for the ecosystem?"
And the trail they leave ;)
