after living with wood fire for heat i can now fully understand how the kitchen table used to be the main social meeting place in houses in the old days and why houses were smaller as a whole. optimizing these things is a complex engineering problem that requires you to design in the infrastructure to enable it from the start. my conclusion, after much pondering, is a single large coal fired boiler in the basement is the best for temperate climates, and steam resistant piping to route heating steam to all of the rooms, with drains going into the grey water. this is also another good reason to have a small "wetland" area in your small plot farm design, where the warm drain water goes into one spot and then seeps down into a bigger pool where you put some kind of fish and algae and water plants and hopefully it's nice and frogs colonize it as well. worst case scenario, you have a natural aquatic cleansing process going on and there is always a body of water nearby that never freezes because it's too big. this is another argument in favor of keeping ducks and geese in this kind of climate, as they like the water and make good eggs, meat and insulation feathers, especially geese, who work much better than dogs for alarming the appearance of a fox or wolves in an area.

the most egregiously false thing about the whole democracy people power thing is that you can change how often people care about stuff happening outside of their village. no, you can't. the whole point of monarchy was leaving all that business in the hands of someone specialised in it. you can't switch the roles over without being fooled that your hand controls anything. at least the monarchy situation (or dictatorship, as you wish) is congruent with the fact that humans simply aren't wired to care about more than a village. idk why anyone is surprised either, modeling people has got to be the most multi-variate mathematical model i can imagine, with thousands of axes, i mean, dimensions. the fact that we can fully model a village is amazing, i think. a lot more amazing than people realise, and the big glaring flaw in all of these modern socialist systems of government. they are hijacking our village and turning it into a circus.

someone said "it will just take the wrong guy getting bumped off xitter to bring the flood" i think this might be the guy. an actual use case, alternative science, with all the necessary tools here ready to bring his work to the people without filters. there will be more of these soon i'm sure. more than a few podcasters out there who are about to get in the firing line.

@Ingwie Phoenix (aka. birb) you will be pleased to hear i am adding a full keyboard navigation scheme to https://smesh.orly.dev that will use simple arrow keys to move between columns and vertical for items, and then tab to activate action buttons and enter to open detail views, and escape and back button (as in like on mice also) to navigate back from narrow/large single column views
