Outside our little group here no one knows and no one has any chance to know all the things being created on Nostr, and I'm sure there are many folks that would be very interested if they knew.
We need more people writing about specific Nostr initiatives, such as the groups subprotocol, the git subprotocol, the community relays, the bunkers, the decentralized app store, the multisig signers, the highlighting, the photo sharing, the very private secure messaging subprotocols, the outbox model, the bluetooth offline inter-device protocol, the decentralized wiki and other stuff.
If you know how to write 3 words without asking an AI to generate text for you please do it.

There is too much written about zaps and Bitcoin and too little about these things.

That specific task has most of my focused attention time now. I can't target a technical audience but I'll try to create something that is, at least, cohesive and competent.
not LLM a DVMCP...
Where can we learn?
it's not so much the ability to write that's blocking this; it's access to high-quality information, ideally from the horse's mouth.
motivated writers can do digging around on a given topic but it's hard to know when you've found the vein or if you're missing unknown unknowns.
those doing the work are often too busy or too elusive to answer questions and if they are willing to do so, it's often for a podcast which - while entertaining - goes "undocumented" as a written artifact to be shared for purusal by those seeking information.
word
#Nostr is technically difficult to the tune of 15 minutes of learning, this has evolutionarily eliminated 99.999999% of all #women and 99.9% of all #men from joining.
More than revealing how much more technically difficult Nostr could be, what nostr needs is an app/website/client even #HomerSimpson could be up and running on in under a minute.
1) Install Nostr
2) Quick and easy default setup
3) #Noting in under 1 minute with under 1 #IQ
What challenges do you think your average person has when using nostr compared to any other tool?
Doing my part to spread the word!
Discovering what's missing from the feed, and utility, most people aren't looking for a platform where they can't be censored, they're looking for information regarding their local fire station, their favorite artists, what congress is doing, news or even drama or political drama.
Yeah, there is so much happening on Nostr, but most of it stays within a small bubble. More people need to write, share, and showcase what’s being built. Even a simple post highlighting one project can help spread awareness. If we want adoption, we have to actually talk about what makes Nostr great.
I fully agree that to attract new people to Nostr we need very simple steps for beginners.
For me was very useful and I am using it to invite clients of my little business to contact me on Nostr.
Nostr - Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays
Got it, so you're thinking of nostr as just a twitter replacement I'd assume?
If that's the case then maybe I'd agree with you, but that's the network effect, rather than a technical problem, is it not? Twitter had the same problem at the start, "how do we get people to use this, if people aren't using this?"
Nostr is honestly so much more than just twitter, it's honestly better to compare it to a layer on top of http that handles identity, decentralized data publishing and validation, and it just so happens that twitter (kind 1) apps are among the easiest to develop. Personally the microblogging/kind 1 is the least exciting part of nostr to me.
What I meant by that, in case you're not technically inclined, is that many more applications can be built (and are being built) on this protocol, and with the twitter-clones we're just scratching the surface!
Is @npub10pen...n34f or any other similar initiative funding some publications dedicated to the effort of "spreading" this out there?
One more thing I'd love to see are tools that allow publishers to quickly replicate their twitter / instagram / blog posts to Nostr. As it is not feasible to have Nostr integrated in their tool, an external tool go "grab and republish" could do the work.
“If you know how to write 3 words without AI”…huh??

@npub1pf6l...wngm I realize the simple answer is “just do it…just start writing about these things!”
A few questions for those of us that may want to help in this fashion.
1. Are you looking exclusively for writing vs say another medium such as video, audio, or graphics?
2. Where is the ideal place for people to currently discover and learn about those items you mentioned (and I assume more that you didn’t) in order to distill and disseminate it to the masses?
3. Is what you are thinking as far as producing content around these topics, in your estimation, doing by someone that is non-techy / not a coder and/or deep in the weeds of Nostr development?
For example, while I coded BASIC in the 80’s and could make a mean circle in HTML 1…I’m focused on helping others in non-coding ways these days. But my experience as a former IT Director, PM, leading et cetera lends itself well to creating content that helps teach people. Yet even I have found it tough (not so smooth) to onboard myself to certain Nostr items. This comes with the territory of innovation for sure!
So my closing question in summation is: how can someone like myself get involved via my skills? Where do I need to get plugged into to help you with this?
Deal, but then can we change the name of the protocol from Nostr to Ostrich please? I want my headlines to be about the Ostrich protocol, not about the Nostr protocol.
Something about "Nostr" makes headlines containing it feel not so clickable. But a headline about the Ostrich protocol—now we're talking!
We can re-jig the acronym. Online stuff transmitted by relays... and then something I.C.H. I dunno.. Is Coming Home!
No Stir.
I don't know if that's within OpenSats mandate, but I think it should be. However there haven't been any initiatives on that direction as far as I know.
I believe It's not possible to access Twitter API without paying an absurd amount to Elon Musk. Other platforms don't even offer an API at all.
Ditch the gatekeepers.

I wrote hundreds of entries for the wiki and you broke it with asciidoc
When the number of NIP-53 wiki entries reached 1000, like 30% of them were mine, and some of those were even actually good
I agree. But maybe flying under the radar a little longer while we improve the eco-system/tools/network is a good thing?
My plan to contribute to nostr is to build a content discovery site where people don't need to understand nostr or it's terminology/concepts to get value from the network.
People googling questions about coffee, dadlife, photography would find great (non-gated) content and gradually be introduced to the network when they create their first account, want to reply or bookmark some content.
I believe this can bring in millions of users. Both StackOverflow and Quora have estimated over 10-30 million contributors (not readers). Converting a fraction of that traffic to Ostriches would be amazing (and one of my key goals)
Before bringing millions of users we have to bring the small group of nerds and enthusiasts that would naturally be interested in what we're doing just so they can help build it.
You bring up a good point. Although there’s info about this, I do think it’s still unclear to people who aren’t using it. Thanks for the idea
I’m here !
Yessssss This is why we are here 🫡
There was a guy posting a nostr round-up, and posting it on nostr. I tried to encourage him to to post it to substack/twitter. Totally forgotten who it is now, but it's semi-regular and quite comprehensive.
( #asknostr anyone know who it is and can tag them please?)
I also reached out to freemediaheckyeah to include nostr stuff on their list, but would probably need pursuing

Welcome
The largest collection of free stuff on the internet!
This guy:
@Nomishka
He has a really good round up:)
Ah I see you're already here lol
I sort of remember it being a bit more technical rather than community, perhaps this was a change in direction. Your later roundups are good, but they are more of internal / in-group interest. I think your first round up was more on the development side. Which would be more of outsider interest.
Sounds like a good path forward.
we are early, too early. #growNOSTR

I think Nostr technology is going to be key to the work place in the future. Like learning microsoft OS and office in the 90s.
Fiatjaf,
I have been wanting to inject nostr-centric news and developments into the Bitcoin And . . . podcast. Are there any spaces I can enter that makes it easier to find out what kinds of things are going on in nostr development?
Yep lol.
Thanks for your feeback @7fqx !
Before reading that last bit, I was thinking that this is the perfect AI job
No, but I do think it's closer to an RSS replacement. I was just answering what I think the challenges are for an average person has when using Nostr compared to any other tool. It's great to be technicaly inclined, but the average person cares about the utility of a tool, not how many purposes it has, you can find a knife in almost every house in the world, you can't say the same about one of those multitools that can slice, screw, punch and press.
I logged back into my Facebook just to show people how easy it is to use.
I think the choice of different apps intimates people.
Anyone got recommendations for a merchant client that works on Android? I really wanna start selling seeds on here
I don't know of any. I think you can listen to the TGFN and NoSolutions podcasts, the Bitcoin.Review and Citadel Dispatch episodes about Nostr, the Rabble, jb55 and Pablo talks in past conferences and invite these people to your podcast, that might be a good start. I guess some of the topics I mentioned above are only in mind so it's my job to talk about them (although I have written about them in Nostr notes and articles that were read by very few in the past), but most of the others you can get from these sources. Maybe read past notes and articles and follow @ hodlbod, @DanConwayDev, @dluvian, @franzap, @Mike Dilger ☑️, @verbiricha, @KoalaSat, @leo and others I'm forgetting. There is also a NIP-29 group for NIP-29 on the 0xchat relay that should have some discussion too, but not enough, it's somewhat dead.
RIP @npub19mdu...6vzk. There are some accounts attempting to replicate their work, like @Nostr Recap, but I'm not really satisfied with them. It's a big project.
What is the "git sub protocol"? Is that like "git hosting via Nostr" or something? That would be very cool.
You have already the apps on a website. You may need to add the other features as Gadgets to be added to clients even by the users themselves if you have an app market account for instance.
You don't need a merchant client, you can just sell seeds
@karo sells blanket and stuff the old fashioned way on here
#nostr is moving so fast - I can't keep pace .. my wife ..no way ! 😭 ..
afaik there's no android specific merchant client. you can look at shopstr or plebian market.
or you can do it the "old fashioned" 😆 way like I do.
I'm so amused you say it's the old fashioned way 😆
The ancient methods carry on in the new world 🤙
the purest form of commerce!
well I can definitely put three or more words together without AI, just not on any of those listed topics.
I am doing ma part 😅
I think both twitter and Instagram allow people to fetch their own content via API for free. Payment is to use other people's data.
Can't check now but i will.
💯 trying as hard as i can
Do something.
Don’t be a lazyf

The biggest issue here is the disconnect between devs and marketers or people who can write and communicate these things. The people who can build aren’t the ones who can effectively communicate it to broader audiences, and the ones who can communicate it aren’t technical enough to understand what’s actually being built or have access to all that information. That gap means Nostr keeps getting pushed under the Bitcoin umbrella because that’s the easiest angle to sell, so everything falls back to zaps and Bitcoin instead of the broader potential.
There are huge influencers here who could help bridge that gap, but they aren’t pushing these ideas either. If we want Nostr to break out of the Bitcoin bubble which is needed, we need better coordination between devs, marketers, and those with reach and a platform outside of nostr. Unfortunately as nostr has no marketing team that has to be a community effort somehow. I mean I understand the sentiment of giving up huge legacy social media to stay true here but how the hell does that help adoption only posting here. The bubble needs popping.
What's a subprotocol?
Well, tech projects usually have websites where they present their projects. But Nostr project websites are quite autistic. Most fail to adequately describe the 'what, for whom, by whom,' so that even techies like me find themselves asking, 'what are they even selling?'
Shameless self-promotion: By the way, I test such websites for a few Sats to find out if and how well they achieve their goals.

Would LOVE to write more about all of the above.
Would also love to have the time to do so.
As can be seen from my @npub1rsv7...4dke npub, it takes me a while to publish even the amount I have.
It's a kind of protocol that exists within a more overarching protocol. For instance, if English is a protocol for communication, then standards for professional writing are a subprotocol within English.
Similarly, Nostr is the overarching protocol and how to use relays and specialized notes for creating groups is a subprotocol within Nostr.
this is my first comment using nostr.
only just recently was i naturally led to this project and over the last few days i've been reading through the nips.
considering using it for my app
It has always be so, just like bitcoin and linux before that.
Thank fuck for the small groups of nerds and enthusiasts ... someone has to do it and no one else knows how to ...
Newcomers weren't supposed to see our dirty laundry here. You were supposed to arrive and find a clean house and happy people.
Just kidding. Since you're here may I ask what has gotten you interested on Nostr and why aren't you cheering for our mortal enemy, Bluesky, instead?
NostrReport was too frequent, and talked too much about what people were doing and saying on Nostr. We need a thing that is just about the technology and open possibilities, another, completely unrelated, about the gossip and stuff like that.
Loosely a protocol inside another protocol.
Nostr transmitted by Nostr; Nostrception
Maybe (although I did like that), but they did at least cover most of the development happening
bluesky is dope, but their dev docs are really not as easily digested as nips are, imho
@ hodlbod Thank you for your feedback and I respect it! The ambition of the @Nostr Recap is not to replicate @npub19mdu...6vzk . But just make the #nostr community aware of what happened previous week as much as I can. My ambition is to be a part of spreading Nostr. :-)

haha, well the warm welcome is happy enough for me 🙂
funny enough i don't use social media much despite building a decently successful one. i have nothing against twitter/x, instagram, bluesky, whatever -- my main purpose of using these is the value of the content, not the security, data privacy, or protocol underlying them.
i stumbled into nostr cuz i'm currently building/playing around with the idea of a niche chat app that prioritizes it's specific purpose/values and security is kind of an afterthought.
i looked into matrix/federated stuff but it's pretty complex and has its drawbacks.
the simplicity of nostr protocol is most attractive to me. and the idea that it could be used to create a better, decentralized signal is awesome.
i'm not crazy about crypto, but decentralization is cool, and web3 style login is awesome.
Is there a NOSTR specific news site that reports on all the developments with the technology? That site would be a must read
What next dude
We love you
you must be retarded if you think bkuesjy is dope
i sent you an email
did you get it ?

is there anything you don't like?
facts. this or bust. grass roots or no green grass.
@fiatjaf I can say it for my self.. it’s really difficult for newcommers to understand all the things that are going on. I’m a programmer, and I can totally understand the revo behind this ecosystem.
But I feel lost. specially where to search for these things that you listed.
Would be nice if someone make a recurrent NewsLetter about all Nostr trends… idk, maybe it already existis… but is just too difficult to know where to search

I started writing a newsletter called OnNostr on Substack to share what I can about Nostr in normieland.
Will try and cover more of these topics.

That's why I ditched my old nym and started cross-posting my nostr long-form posts on Substack.
I find app devs don't publish what changes are in an intuitive way. I thought the marketplace got removed from amethyst for 6 months because it got moved.
Yeah. Trying to create on-ramps from outside of nostr on to nostr.
I learned how to make a zap button on Substack, but it's against their TOS.
Really? That's cool but unfortunate. 👎
Restrictions everywhere.
Chances are, they would have no idea. Maybe I should just do it anyway.
Would love to see how you implemented this.

I find it amusing that you're judging Nostr by the quality of the current content and still staying here given that you're not from the Bitcoin bubble, but thank you for making me believe that was possible.
I'm just hoping that you stay more and build something cool with all the simplicity.
It's not _that_ simple though, the apparent simplicity hides many complexities the moment you leave the "naïve mode", which is to hardcode some static relays and work from there (a stage that many Nostr apps haven't left yet), but even with complex relay selection that can't be abstracted away I don't think it's too complicated either.
