Well, my little raccoons babies are gone. They'd grown to about double the size of when I originally found them. I didn't have the heart to completely relocate them, in case they still had a family nearby. The risk from my neighbor's dogs is likely no higher than the risk anywhere else, given the statistics around raccoon mortality. If they still have a family unit, that should help increase their chances of survival.
3 nights ago, I started leaving the coop door open when I went to bed. The first 2 nights, they wouldn't wander out any further than the little path of grapes I'd laid out. (They really love grapes ๐ฅฒ) I found them huddled up together inside at sunrise. This morning they are nowhere to be seen. That's not to say they're not in the tree right above my head... but for all intents and purposes, they're off wilding again.
I hope they'll be okay. For the last week, they'd been learning how to deal with eating whole, uncracked eggs and unadulterated produce. I tried not to over-socialize them. They were still pretty spooked by casual happenings around them, so that's a good sign. One of them wasn't scared of me at all. I know I could have kept that one ๐

Part of me is, like... maybe this forest rave cult joke is getting out of hand
The other part is thinking... maybe this is how we win ๐๐

Choose Something Like A Star
Robert Frost 1943
O Star (the fairest one in sight),
We grant your loftiness the right
To some obscurity of cloud --
It will not do to say of night,
Since dark is what brings out your light.
Some mystery becomes the proud.
But to be wholly taciturn
In your reserve is not allowed.
Say something to us we can learn
By heart and when alone repeat.
Say something! And it says "I burn."
But say with what degree of heat.
Talk Fahrenheit, talk Centigrade.
Use language we can comprehend.
Tell us what elements you blend.
It gives us strangely little aid,
But does tell something in the end.
And steadfast as Keats' Eremite,
Not even stooping from its sphere,
It asks a little of us here.
It asks of us a certain height,
So when at times the mob is swayed
To carry praise or blame too far,
We may choose something like a star
To stay our minds on and be staid.
"And all at once, summer collapsed into fall."

Barely a week into September and the weather is already cold enough to wear my new sweater ๐

We had an all female NSG today... oh, how the tables have turned ๐๐
This week's Nostr Study Group will kick off in about 30 minutes, on Hivetalk (15 min late because I've been preoccupied ๐
). Feel free to stop in. Not sure how active it will be today. Bigger stuff we'd been discussing has mostly wrapped up & it's the day after a holiday for many. Probably a good day for introductions, if anyone feels inclined.
