On this delicious seafood plate are barnacles, I’ve never had them before but supposedly they are quite popular here in Portugal. I heard that people risk their lives to collect them which is quite neat. They seem more like survival food in my opinion, but interesting to try new foods.

Just hiked Chirripo with my 73 year old grandpa. Two days before the hike we didn’t think he was going to make it. He got extremely sick and couldn’t get out of bed. The night before we left he got 3 vitamin IV’s and woke up with a new sense of determination, one that would bring him to the top of the tallest mountain in Costa Rica. Such an inspiration
