There is no online privacy Maybe if we lose the illusion of online privacy, people will write each other letters encrypted with air-gapped devices for actual privacy
fuck politics, totally waste of time; just don’t stop write code
Most people feel they don't have much to hide. They probably wish they had more to hide. Life might be a little more exciting that way. Maybe the real enemy is mundanity.
I'd be shocked if there was - privacy protects and empowers the individual which is counter productive for any political party
The government runs the education system so that citizens are programmed before they can think for themselves. This has been increasing over the last century or so as the older generations depart and the newer ones have already accepted the current paradigm. The Fabians work over generations to achieve their objectives and so do almost every other aspect of society, from the churches to the head of state. They lay the groundwork yesterday for the spires of tomorrow. Unfortunately, the rest of us are too busy trying to stay alive to think ahead that far and we are nearing the endgame for their plans. Once they have Digital Identity in place, please report to your re-education facility...

I am not a friend of radicalisation but you are very right that this is mainly an education problem. People simple are not aware of how much their privacy is touched by all the digitalisation and how this could be used against them anytime later on. Snowden once put it: "Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say." Privacy is not about hiding criminal things but about being the owner of your own data and deciding yourself what to share with whom. And that is a basic right.

Interesting, never heard of that. Goes to my reading list. 👍🏻
I think so too, it has to be a grass roots movement of resistance or at least attempted. This is where I firmly public private key cryptography will play a central role and areas like NOSTR must flourish.

Privacy imo is not so much about hiding but deciding yourself what data to share. Which is nothing that should remain secret because its criminal or something but just my personal things that I maybe don’t want „everybody“ to know.

How any politician would defend our privacy, it attacks their very way of existence
Unsurprising, no? Privacy is about leaving a person alone. That's never an aspect of any political system AFAIK. So any solution towards privacy kinda has to be non-political.
I'm trying to think back to the beginning of COVID. The opposition was not very loud at first, then it ramped up significantly, but only in certain countries. This will probably be similar
Therefore the job of the new leadership stratum will be to make doing the wrong thing instantly and extremely painful.
Most people have stopped trying to wriggle out the clutches of their communist government, it’s easier to succumb.

Private tech or tech rejection. Internet incorporated too many fields of life.
The normies are not ready. Not enough pain. So many normies are trying to survive the fiat rat race. They’re not thinking about Nostr or Bitcoin. It’s day to day for them - Next meal, next paycheck etc. Grass roots education isn’t working Unfortunately, they’ll have to figure it out when they’re ready What am I missing

Unfortunately, it may have to get worse before it gets better. 😔
I think the masses do care, well a significant number do, but they’re too trapped within the system to escape. If you work in a place that’s fully g00gled etc etc it’s hard to escape. Some of us are lucky in that we can earn a quid outside of that. And speaking as someone that vaguely gives a fuck, it’s a full time job trying to keep up with the bullshit. Agree there’s a lot of larping in the influenza world.
Privacy? Pfff... What about taxes and regulations? Most of the people around you are zombies. Deal with it and enjoy your democracy.
The people that care about privacy, especially on NOSTR, are the same people that say “politics don’t matter” But now they want political opposition? Lol
Why? They heard the message from the privacy loving anons about politics not mattering. You should be proud. Your message got through to them 👍🏼

I'm ready for the Ride or die way I didn’t need a vaccination passport, and I won’t need a digital ID
I have a pretty simple formula. When the state makes tyrannical moves, I buy some the hardest and strongest digital asset.
There's too much money involved. So naturally they won't. Once it hurts their coffers, THEN it'll have opposition. At least perhaps - and, yeah, it's basically just me hoping it. Man, this whole agegating came so quick and sudden - I do sometimes wonder if there is a conspiracy behind this. There isn't, I know that, the drafts and all have been out since forever... but jeebus it does suck balls. And not in a good way. x.x View quoted note →
You are absoluely right - but lets reflect for a moment: With Bitcoin we are promoting a public, transparent ledger without privacy and where the Feds and CEX know your withdrawal addresses - and therefore all future (and past) transactions. Custodial Lightning does not make it better. Looks like Bitcoin is not coming to help us. I do not know what to do (except moving away from BTC) - do you?

That fight was lost 20 years ago. Sorry for the bad news.
Be real, 99% of people by on a CEX with KYC. Getting some tainted darknet market BTC from Hodlhodl is not what i can recommend either.
People are too docile (governments keep them that way on purpose) so long as Netflix is connected, beer flows, and the illusion of "freedom" continues, there will be no resistance. A little fingerprint here, a face scan (for your safety) there, and people will eat it up. People are terrified of freedom because it's dangerous and risky.

The west is falling.…Bread and circuses. When it comes to the majority, things don’t change
Onboard as many people to nostr while we still can. Once the apps all get taken down from the app stores it'll be a lot harder to purple pill the normies
You are the problem. Calling governments "communist" for being capitalist. You are the kind of person that makes it easier for the government to oppress people because you intentionally try to confuse people and make political discourse impossible. 1984 bullshit you're peddling. Should be ashamed of yourself

The good thing is that people always find a way. They will never completely control us, and in the end we will always win.
First of all do you know which country is being referred to here? You mention governments. The erosion of online privacy rights being discussed here is in relation to recent events in the UK. Also, the UK may not have full blow communism but in many aspects of its society do operate in a defacto socialist manner and this aspect has been getting worse. Emphasising the problem can help counter the slow boil of acceptance and acclimatisation. Also, you seem to be using the terms communist and capitalist in a binary sense as if you are one or the other. I don’t think this is a useful way to view things.

the history of genocide and oppression of opinion is not something new on history . Genocide of opinion is the most heinous act man can do to human brains
If most people, including yourself, don't want to do things wright, please do not complain about Bitcoin privacy features.
Online privacy is a reflection of real life situation .. you can't change the reflection ! ..I am not saying real life privacy is good or bad ..
