Wake up motherfuckers, if you thought it couldnt get any worse, it just did: Google Play Store is banning all non-custodial wallets whose developers do not have a FinCEN registration, state banking license, or MiCA license. This means that in the US, *all* non-custodial wallets on the Play Store will have to employ AML/KYC. Sounds bad? In the EU, it’s even worse: MiCA licenses are not issued to services as simple as non-custodial wallets, effectively banning non-custodial wallet developers from the Play Store in the EU. As with all dumb AML ideas, it’s of course the FATF that opened the door to this nonsense, claiming that even non-custodial/decentralized software could have some element of control over funds. The DOJ tried to enforce this quagmire with Samourai and Tornado Cash, and now we’re seeing the largest App Store in the world enforce it on its own. After regulation by prosecution, here comes regulation by monopoly Are you tired of winning yet?

Guess I need to upgrade to GrapheneOS now. I was planning to already, but the walls are closing in fast
There are others like codeberg and gitea. Microsoft is just gonna ruin their business and make alternatives' case stronger. These alternatives are all open-source, community-driven and not dependent on big tech.
Fuck Android, fuck Apple iOS Get pixel phone, flash it with @GrapheneOS and the problem is gone! The mobile phone privacy starts with GrapheneOS!!! We have got the tools, we will resist, we need to educate others on how important this matter is. At 2140.wtf meetups we talk a lot about the Graohene OS . Our next meetup will touch on this again. Funny enough the previous one about grapheme OS happened to be exactly on a day when the UK government has introduced the idea of a backdoor to Apple cloud..... A coincidence? Not really, we are ahead of the curve.. Bring your freshly purchased Pixel 6 or higher and Anon2140 will flash it for you at the meetup in less than 10min with GrapheneOS
Wake me up when phones don't allow apk installs. I've been operting as if the play store was evil for 10+ years.
where is it coming from though? can't be google's decision out of nothing, right?

Better to understand now that if your connection to the emergent Bitcoin ecosystem was so fragile that it required ANY “Big Tech Bro” product or service, you were f@cked long before this happened.
This was always going to happen with centralized services.

Of course eventually they will. I think it's Jack or someone who says that any FOSS app/os is almost useless at the end of the day if you can't get FOSS hardware also. Because otherwise manufacturers can force you or be forced to make you use a closed source OS with restrictions like : only that OS who let yout download apps approved through a dedicated store etc ... We need open source hardware for phones and computers asap.
WTF

My brother, what devices do you use? There's only a handful of manufacturers making these chips on your phone/ laptop, the internet runs off cloudflare, all of your apps are on Google Play, Apples App store or GitHub. There's no hierarchy in this situation, we all rely on big tech regardless of how cypherpunk we all think we are.
Tbf, barely, fb shadow banned anti vaccine posts "on their own" too. This is an act of the banking cartel. Google just happens to be the patsy this time.
They can block people from downloading it. They can't delete it off your phone. I think.
Sadly true. Their is a very serious possible path leading to total distopia if we don't start to not comply pretty soon. Maybe it's also because they feel that tech like Bitcoin will soon bankrupting them that they start to fight back. I really think the "then they fight you" period has started for good.
That's a WHOLE lot of capital. And they'd have to go online like yesterday to get ahead of this.
If the hammer came down any EU or US based open source project they would likely fold. We need to be enraged and push back against overreach, there is no hierarchy in this situation. This could effect us all using any source to obtain apps.
That's a WHOLE lot of capital. And they'd have to go online like yesterday to get ahead of this.
They want your Bitcoin with custodians only, so they are able to steal ("seize") it easily... Worst thing is. Most people are not like us and are never going to download apps somewhere apart from the Play store... 😮‍💨
Google could do that yes and probably will now that the Pixel is no longer AOSP's reference device. If the Pixel 10 allows OEM unlocking I'll be surprised if it's not the last. Best to get a Pixel now as an update to a stock Pixel could block OEM unlocking.

So let me get this straight….. Monopolistic nation states and BigTech are suppose to roll over and allow a new system that clearly has the potential to outcompete them flourish with their full co-operation? Strap in. This gets much much more difficult from here. Which, paradoxically, is exactly what we NEED to build the most durable ecosystem possible. Much love 🥰
I've been seeing news that android is slowly getting more closed source and wondered about its overall impact. Now it's starting to make sense

What’s been happening in the EU has … I don’t even have the proper words tbh.
And in Russia, Putin banned WhatsApp and Telegram voice and video calls starting today. All crypto was banned long ago. The 1984 world is coming fast, on a global scale.

Seriously unreal. Can’t even hold your own keys privately
it was not a "false alarm" and the story is already updated now get out of my replies with screenshots of comments to my own posts tyvm
Predicted this. Warned everyone that if Trump was elected they'd make owning your own bitcoin illegal. Because Bitcoin is a threat to the Zionist financial system and Trump being a pedophile will do whatever the Zionists tell him to do against the American people. It's the same reason that USA UK Canada Australia Germany and France are censoring the internet. It's all about Israel and USA tech giants(especially visa and MasterCard wanted to maintain total control over all digital money)
You can tell when someone isn't actually using Bitcoin because they make these nonsense comments and just expect people to agree with them.
The global NWO banking cartels. Visa Mastercard, the state of Israel, Donald Trump etc. Bitcoin has plenty of enemies
Actually they came for GitHub first. Microsoft has been censoring GitHub according to some recent article I read
This kept me up this night, not the ATH that I noticed only in the morning. Sure, it seems Google have walked back the part about self-custodial wallets, but this only goes to show what’s in store for the future. We should not get lazy or complacent. These motherfuckers hate us and will do anything in their power to rob us of any sovereign tool, if we let them. View quoted note →
I am sick of the outrage bullshit. Don't use the damned "play store". Problem solved. Good grief.
I'd love to see our customers come with their desktops to purchase in store 🤣 No let's be serious, mobile wallets are by far the most used, there must be a reason. If you can't get rid of your Bitcoin easily, in other words spend it easily, it's worth 0. So you can't ignore the "in person" purchases use case like that IMO
Hundred percent and that was the intentional along. They thought they could ignore bitcoin and they did for too long and they’re completely out of the loop something like 70% of bitcoin is owned by people like you and me so now they’re gonna try and do exactly that that’s what Nostr what we need is a decentralized Google Apple Store
👌 I’m a newcomer. TV and film producer actually, I want to be able to do what I do on the bitcoin platform one day real soon.
Oneplus.com A manufacturer. One of dozens. I have a OnePlus 9. As far as hardware on android goes, get something you like hardware wise. OnePlus has great price to performance ratio and probably still the fastest in screen fingerprint reader. Lenovo/Motorola is a good manufacturer, I don't particularly like Samsung, Pixels are nice, I've been eyeing a nothing phone as my next purchase. Probably CFM phone 2.
Ok. I use gift cards from bitfrefill. Plenty of options. The mobile ln wallet I maybe use once a year when I go to a conference or meetup. Then I load WoS with an on chain transaction which allows me pay with sats (ln) and that's about it.
Google Play store can't make an app anymore secure than downloading the APK directly from the trusted source.
The ladder to the escape hatch is being pulled up, and most people have no idea. Remember the times when it was easy to convert fiat currency to #Bitcoin.
