fundamental concept questions here:
still noob in this world in general, but i always wondered if we all not posess an ip address already and connect to this internet thing, us being a part of all this, so why not keep everything at the edges, the nodes themselves, and doing true actual peer to peer? why do we (most of us) connect to datacenters and webservers there instead of our peers directly to the greatest extent possible. i always pictured software that only needed say the dns rootservers at max, and their ipv4 snf ipv6 stack, and we are all set already, everything else coming and staying from locally (peers) only. ever since edonkey in the ole days, later totrents (and via dht) i always pictured the final internet to be much more like that, instead of running and connecting giant hosting companies. ist it actually all there already, you have your ip address, i have mine, et al, we all should just send packets to certain port numbers and be gone with all those middle men and middle layers and middle ware. even dns could be ditched, as you can possibly just count all possible existing ip and port combinations of course. somebody needs to come up with a brilliant peer node lookup and connect concept and get those cloud and hosting concepts deprecated already. this always bothered me for pretty much everything on the internet in the past decades.

We use Bluetooth intercoms using a dynamic mesh network on our helmets for snowmobiling.
They’re usually good for around 1km or so before they cut out through open fields. In the dense forest it will be less.
Once a rider catches back up to being within range, it automatically reconnects.

I like it. This reminds me of a digital walkie talkie. Using a walkie talkie is how I learned Morse Code. Why the “bit”? Are we sending Bitcoin p2p within the app without wifi? If it happens in a straight forward way and can be spent immediately, then I’ll be super impressed. Let’s go, it’s about time.
With QR codes being difficult to scan outdoors and NFC tightly controlled, BLE and ultrasonic (or just sonic!) transmission are promising ways to improve Bitcoin UX

LoRa's long range but low bandwidth already enables telemetry messages from as far as orbiting satellites with $20 hardware (

For motivated, low time preference users, such as Nostriches, I think there must be a way to hyper-efficiently encode/decode longer text messages using local language models, trading work at sender and receiver for better transmission efficiency, mitigating bandwidth constraints and enabling far wider mesh coverage.
Whether or not it can be made to work, I'm finding it interesting to explore
