3 - I’m fortunate enough to have space for the larger app. Is this a problem on older/less capable devices?
So far I’ve been pretty good at not talking to people without using Bitchat, why complicate life?
4) bitchat with whatever's the latest version of tor that's actually open source (I've heard they stopped having reproducible source code for Android version of Tor at some point)
Personally, for the sake of privacy, I would vote 3, but this could kill mass adoption and the initial idea of a bluetooth mesh network. So probably 1 is better at this early stage.
This is a good question for folks in freedom restricting regimes. Overlap with nostr folks today my guess is not great. Maybe a good poll for the next HRF survey and/or conference. cc @Alex Li @ck
It would be very good having pure onion address relays, because you don't need to exit on clear net. This is the culprit of most of the issues .. however i saw that everything stuck using onion net nostr relays .. probably most of the nostr implementation didn't work on that.. i saw big issues with for example basically nostr connect auth with amber didn't work onion relay good resources
Amethyst has this integrated I believe (another thing amethyst does well, to give it its due). Not sure that that is possible in bitchat ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't even know what the difference is tho lol

140 mb in modern phones is nothing. Option 3 of course ✌️

1, I already have Orbot running.
My vote is 3. Using outdated versions of Tor is a massive danger to both privacy and security. Plus, 140mb isn't that big so it's a solid trade-off.
Make Bitchat 10 GBs Add some Bloat, Modern Graphics, Detailed Skins, we don't live in 1960s when 10 MB was $3,500. We live in 2025, and SOON WE'LL BE IN 2026 😲! You can buy a 2TB hard drive for $200. Hell Add The Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Monero Blockchains to Bitchat as well. I don't get where this fear of utilizing data comes from, I know bloat is a drag, and people used to do more with less but sometimes under optimized code that functions properly is better than over optimized code that is so slim that it's prone to errors. Be a medium little medium person, and stop being afraid to use some memory. View quoted note →

🐒 tor is the onion browser. do we have to get/install/use ~modern~ tor ourselves? or is it put inside the bitchat machine? wouldn’t we just want no. 3?
Is it possible to download Tor as a module? so the binary is only core features. But then user can download Tor module

Since there is no kyc already, using bitchat with a VPN is private already, right? I vote 1
