feel like bro is pretty gender nondenominational as in, i call chicks bros a fair amount of the time but sure, i understand that is not universal & some women dont like that also, are they telling the truth about the code or whatever? im not a tech person

Can't believe how naive this shit is...yet some intelligent people buy it without asking "how does official banking industry run"? "How much electricity it uses"? Fkn retards.
Dunno about the sexism. I'm pretty numb to those claims. Easily debunked and dumb take though. "Ever heard what deflationary money will do?"

With respect, misogyny is not the main problem here, I think it is just a tactic to move the discussion to different levels, and increase noise and nervous reactions. The main point, the culprit of misinformation, is obviously that they have not yet understood, or rather deliberately concealed, why PoW is mandatory in a digital currency. Can we produce a counter pro-pow campaign to make people aware? Let us exploit their media power, and also their sexist slip, to Bitcoin advantage. /cc @Gigi @jack mallers

They know. Their solution to everything is global centrally-planned socialism. So they know they CAN change the code. They just need a global government to seize all the computers first.
Are they telling the truth about the code? Well, if you turn an eagle (Proof of Work) into a sheep (Proof of Stake), it doesn't need to fly or eat meat ever again. Genius! But then it won't be able to defend itself against predators either. Tiny but important detail.

grateful u arent tech boyfriend tho, thankful, you do have command over the english language & the capacity to type unlike walker
We as Bitcoiners should troll fork and create a "Bitcoin Green" with an identical BCH logo. Advertised as the climate friendly Bitcoin. Let all the Greenpeace mouth breathers buy it up, then all the premined held by Bitcoiners we dump for real Bitcoin and let "Bitcoin Green" flash crash, rugging Greenpeace
Yes because them being sexist is the real concern here… I agree they spread bullshit but posting an “oh this is sexist! Let’s shame them”-note about it is some serious attention seeking woke bullshit ✌🏻

this is fake facts sponsored by rich crypto gambler #lobby they have no idea, in #kenya is hope for the poor #mining using natural energy with infrastructure gives electricity to small villages then. Only here in #germany the high expensive energy is wasted cause they have no long cables to transport when needed, burning expensive russian gas imported from #india #usa etc. Instead. Wth bitcoin lightning network the african slavery from those whites like #greenpeace sponsors can be broken, poor people without credit or bank account have the option to save little money to sell their own products directly. look here, what they do in cold #Finnland they do in #kenya now too with solar energy and unused gas, made a big contact with kenyan state oilcompany no fake and here in #Germany #Greenpeace is asking for money at the door or sending expensive letters to make a donation or subscription #shameonyoy LG Zaawaadi 🧡 read more about
They should go ahead and change the code to reduce the emissions by 99.9% then. Not like there's anyone stopping them from doing it 🤷‍♂️ Then we'll see how well their brilliant idea fares in the free open market...

Besides the fact that there is a reason why it works as it works, is there any study/material estimating how much energy the current banking system uses?
This is hilarious! Their video says bitcoin only produces 86 metric tons of emissions instead of 86 million metric tons! Top quality source of reputable information right there.
But I guess they only think there a hundreds of computers mining it so maybe that's why the emissions are so low...
I think the sexist note is the best approach there is. Yes, there video is full of misleading information, and they are not hard to argue against... 80 square whatever... Is it a lot, is it a little? Will most of the electricity be used and turned into heat anyway? Very likely. Can they go ahead and change the code? Of course, Bitcoin is open source and consensus based. All that and more can be said, but no one will listen. We are living in post-factual times so screaming SEXIST! is the only way out voice can be heard. And then if we are given more than 15 seconds we can bring up the other arguments. You might not like it, but this is how the game is played.

bitcoin mining works in such a way that the guy with the cheapest energy wins. i cant see a future where the winners arent clean carbon free producers of energy. hydro, geothermal, otec, wind, solar, nuclear, those guys (eventually) will have the cheapest watts and the smog makers will have to shut down
lol and for a moment there I thought the sexism was in the sense of denigrating the men by calling them bros. guess not.
Good luck Greenpeace trying to stop bitcoin, we already see the results of making a coin and blockchain with no-emission PoS whatever... they all going to zero in long term value. The perfect example is also the 💵💶 since the abolition of the gold standard. We stop a PoW gold fiat system for a fake stake/loans unlimited supply and we have a worldwide MEGA inflation now
at this point beign ignorant on this topic is unacceptable, if you are interested in environment. Also, you don't make a global campaign on something you are ignorant about. They're just dishonest shits.

Hahaha what a shit attempt to attach the coin hahaha
I don't know if it means very much at all, because we crossed that bridge a long time ago. When we used physical tokens for #currency we only used energy once, but ever since we've had electronic payments, we've had this problem, long before bitcoin. I remember seeing some arithmetic once showing that the biggest issues are exchanges, that run 24/7. It doesn't matter if they're #trading #BTC or #stocks, they're still wasting resources. So in a sense this is a problem, but it's much older than #crypto
We will not win if we accept the enemy’s framing. We can only laugh in their face when they accuse us bitcoiners of any of the progressive deadly sins (sexist, racist, misogynist, etc. )
I’m not sure … aside from the fact that they think “proof of stake” is just some “simple code switch” that a “handful of people” have influence over. TBH I don’t see a problem with greenpeace petitioning (private parties) and making noise about this. But I’m prolly too dumb to understand why proof of stake wouldn’t work for Bitcoin.

“There’s an easy fix” Ok. You first. Give me free Bitcoin Green tokens on your new chain so I can sell them for more bitcoin.
It’s funny how they don’t talk about video games, AI, the military industrial complex, Fiat?

Just as Bitcoin-only is a massive assumption and attempt to shut down debate, so is "PoW is mandatory in a digital currency". I wonder if there is any appetite amongst Bitcoiners for rigorous debate on these two counts. I hope so, open source should mean open to challenge. #asknostr
Of course, I am open to any different opening that might improve the possibility of a decentralised, non-governmental, non-inflationary money. At present, this point seems quite solid to me: Do you have any other ideas?

There is no second best. A deep dive into why there is #Bitcoin  and then there is everything else. My keynote from @BTC Prague This keynote was inspired by many but I want to give a special shoutout to @Gigi , Jason Lowery, Andrew Poelstra, and Greg Maxwell. Their writings and work was particularly influential. I’d also like to shoutout the @BTC Prague team. This was one of the best #Bitcoin  conferences I’ve ever been to. Thanks so much for having me!

Thanks for engaging! Personally, I wasn't convinced by @jack mallers presentation. I wonder if it would be possible to have an adversarial debate at a Bitcoin conference, e.g. Bitcoin vs shitcoin, PoW vs PoS? Also, let's pick the cryptos to compare and contrast with #Bitcoin based on rigorous technical criteria, not just market cap. Personally, I am all in on Bitcoin + Nimiq, the latter of which is transitioning to Proof of Stake. The depth of research being done on blockchains is too substantial just to be sniggered at! Here is something from the Nimiq team, the third metric concerns mitigation against centralisation under Proof of Stake.

Yes, they are telling a half the truth about the code, but it's like saying "your car won't pollute anymore if we just remove the engine". It would destroy all functionality and make it worthless.
I don't really understand this campaign. They can go ahead and change the code and make their very own Greenpeace-approved coin whenever they want. (Do they not know that? or do they just assume that folks seeing the ad won't know that? It sounds like they're asking the Bitcoin Company™️ to do something.)
