I've been a member of the /r/Bitcoin subreddit for probably close to 15 years. They banned me last night. Why? Because I said the mods were fascists for taking down posts. They said they'd unban me if I edited my comment and removed the part where I called them fascists. Ironic.

They literally proved your point, lmao. & honestly, this kind of behavior goes completely against what Bitcoin is about. That mod should be removed.

What kind of posts were they taking down?
I always think of the flanking Fascii of the congressional chamber of the United States when I hear the word fascist. It's all over the United States symbols which means we are either incorrectly using the term or we are fascist not liking other fascist. To me a bundle of sticks around an axe is about as useless a thing you can find. Maybe it means that the weapon of justice ( two sided axe or gavel ) is only to be handled by the many. Abraham Lincoln memorial had this embedded into his chair or throne.

Meanwhile, I can't use my original Bitcointalk login because the mods disabled it after their user database was compromised and me owning the email domain since before Bitcoin even existed is apparently not good enough.
lol you should edit it and edit it back w/ the word fascist when they unban you 😂
We tested zaps on this note… we made six attempts to⚡zap this note, at zeeclor@zeeclor.com.au, over a period of about 1 hour. In each case, we found that your lightning address server did not respond correctly. (The failure point was when we did a GET request to your specified callback URL: http://qp5cpjvlq5mhykyjapb75w65doiinskcdxcc2kk3onksk26nhj6qtmad.onion/lnurlp/ ). Your server did not produce an invoice, thus the zap failed. You might want to look into using a cloud-based Lightning node which is optimized for Nostr zaps, to get your zaps working.

That sub is beyond saving. Almost all of the posts are price related, screenshots of headlines, or Saylor groupies posting his memes. It’s rare to see anything about using bitcoin. It feels like a smoke screen to prevent the normies from actually learning.

Anything Reddit is a lost cause. I wised up and stopped posting there. (Narrator: He actually stopped posting because his accounts got banned)

That sub turned to garbage a long time ago. I glance once in a while and it’s the same dumpster fire.
It is called central power. Here this power is (for the most part) decentralized to each user, and it is better. #nostr 1 - 0 reddit Thanks to #nostr
Everyone eventually becomes a bitcoin maximalist since every shitcoin tends to 0 against bitcoin. Everyone eventually becomes Nostr only since every other socials will bans you.
This feels like a great near zero cost advertising moment. @fiatjaf nostr marketing proposal to get more people here: 1) register website - e.g. bannedonreddit.com 2) list the fake and gay reasons people like Derek were banned 3) link to nostr
I was only on Reddit talking about Russia/Ukraine war, it was intense. No big deal. But as soon as I went after the mods (from India) asking if India was parasitical in everything they did, did I get my lifetime ban. Three years and counting. Good Riddance Reddit. Not missed.

They took down my bitcoin JPEGs that where viewed by millions on Twitter (saylor was sharing them) and told me it was low value content. I tried 3 times. Haven’t been part of the group for 2 years now. Feel for the poor souls still stuck there.

And they proved you correct.
Imagine banning Derek. Pathetic.

i had this happen to me. i made a bitcoin meme, i don't make them often, and it did well here on nostr, so i posted it on reddit. and just as you, i tried 3 times and each time it was removed for low value. meanwhile, a dozen AI generated slop were up there without issue. this was a while back, when we found out that Peter Todd was Satoshi :P
it is infinitely gayer to wield the "fascist" accusation, than it is to wield the "commie" designation... particulary for the mentally ill and utterly historically retarded descendents of western Christians.
I haven't used reddit regular since they stopped allowing 3rd party apps. Reddit is Fun was a better app than theirs so they had a hissy fit and blocked other apps. It's a cesspool of trash, filth, and perversion.
They did... I enjoy some aspects of Reddit, such as communities for TV shows that I watch. I just like to read the theories and discussions. But most of Reddit is just horrible.

Even though keeping the note as it is is the right move … it would be interesting to see how they react to different words. Writing „anti-“ in front of „fascist“ would be my favorite
Hanging out with midwits that long is either bad for your health or your reputation.
The important takeaway here is that even though we don't agree, we all understand that being gay is inexcusable, disgusting, vile behavior.
interesting discussion … well, for all of reddit’s flaws, at least I’ve never encountered people on there using “gay” as a diss, when saying “weird/dumb” would work just as well. Boo to homophobic language.
So not cool to use “gay” as a diss. It’s so freakin easy to just say “that’s hella weird” or “that’s dumb”. Instead, you’re just gonna use homophobic language to express when you don’t like or don’t understand something.
I dislike Reddit, they have censored me badly many times over the years. #nostr freedom
we have NIP-72 communities, but only a couple apps support these communities and the communities themselves are not fully implemented or half baked. it's not a true good attempt to replace Reddit.
im sorry this happened, but this these incidents will continue and on a more increasing severity as time moves forward. it's the way of centralization. how many followers did you have on Twitter?
r/bitcoin got weird. It was my go-to back in the 20-teens when there wasn't much bitcoin news around. I don't think I'm banned as in kicked out, but that last handful of things I've tried to post (been years literally) has gotten auto-moderated and never posted. Got to the point where I didn't understand half of the nonsense that rose to the top anyway.
Thanks for replying Derek. The account didn't have many followers but it drove traffic to my site and had some good connections. The platform has only really been active a few months. Have had many other experiences on other platforms over the years and am considering setting something separate up to challenge the concept of social media and centralisation. Already looked into building with nostr and other decentralised protocols. Unfortunately am flat out on crypto statto but may be able to knock something up. I am running a current metaphor through my head that the matrix is twitter and facebook for example. A developer friend told me that their GitHub repository got blocked for having a meme, it was client artefacts. Like you say, this goes on constantly. All the best.

They should have the freedom to manage their platform any way they want. Why should they run their product according to your rules?
Also got shadow-banned on r/bitcoin, didn't allow to post AI-generated Bitcoin art without properly stating it as a rule. Think in general subreddit mods and reddit admins have too much power over users' content, plus shadow-banning, posts don't appear under New, meaning nobody sees them. Algo what is displayed under New and Hot.

You should use the term NAZIST instead. Fascist are too much italian style! #Lol Laugh about who they are is the way ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
if you don’t want to share it for privacy reasons, that’s totally fine and understandable of course. Just say so. I did ask about “the original comment the mod is referring to”. 🙄

But experience was just opposite I was making the ai JPEGs and it unrelated memes all over the feed.
I remember in middle school, it was a small group of the “cool” “bad” boys who’d look for any small opportunity to use it to insult other boys … like “that’s gay” or “you’re gay”. They were also the group that really strictly imitated Kid Rock and Eminem. I think Reddit has basically the same rule for each sub to keep things inclusive and respectful … so people are quick to downvote any comment that has an abusive language tone, or to report it to the moderators.
Roger mentioned something similar. I hope the rest of the BTC space isn‘t gonna treat you now like they‘ve treated Roger.
image Already banned now: Hello, You have been banned from participating in r/Bitcoin for 28 days because your post violates this community's rules. You won't be able to post or comment, but you can still view and subscribe to it. Note from the moderators: "Stop trying to stir up drama."
yeah there *was* also a small group of cool but ‘mean’ girls at my middle school… I think they used disses a lot less though. For them it was more like ignoring people and treating them like they’re invisible (social ostracism) vs. being really friendly and approving with others. And it would be coordinated with the previously mentioned cool boy group.

Lemmy is small, but more or less a clone of the old Reddit (as far as I understand it). As an old school Reddit user I am pretty disgusted by what it’s become. I remember moving away from Digg to Reddit after Digg was ruined by commercialism, now I feel the same way about Reddit - but it’s much harder to find alternatives these days because of the sheer scale/user base of these platforms.
RIF was definitely better, but it also allowed for ad blocking. Reddit yanked the API so that it could force people to see ads.

I don’t know too much about it to be honest… but isn’t Reddit also super centralized, but also monetized/corporatized? I guess I’m just interested in supporting any sort of non-monetized version. I would love something decentralized, but that doesn’t seem to exist (in any way that is accessible to the amount of people that would also make it useful).
