OK I'll play. This was my Father's pre engagement gift to my Mum. They met in the Merchant navy and he got her this silver letter opener, which I still use. Less and less frequently nowadays... image
Theres a PBS Documentary called the Diamond Deception discussing this.. I tried to buy it but you cant find a legal copy anywhere. (Last I looked anyway)

Pictured is a wooden practice katana I made using nothing but hand tools, a 2x4x48 piece of oak, a piece of plate aluminum, a piece of 2” aluminum bar stock, and leather. 33 years ago when I was only 21. Every piece was hand cut, filed, shaped and sanded for days. A jeweller inscribed the butt plate for me with the kanji symbol and engraved the year 1992 and the word “Niten” on the tsuba. Then I painted the kanji symbols along both sides of the “blade”. Prior to assembly, the entire wooden length including the handle was coated with 10 applications of linseed oil. Then 12 coats of Diamond Kote varathane. The handle is the exact length from my inner elbow to my hand. The blade is the exact length of my inseam. This piece still looks exactly the way it did when it was completed. I hope it is here long after I am gone. At the time I was obsessed with martial arts and Japanese history. Miyamoto Musashi’s own account in The Book of Five Rings mentions that he fought his first duel at age 13. According to traditional stories, this was against a samurai named Arima Kihei of the Shinto-ryu school. Musashi used a wooden practice sword (a bokken) in that duel, while Arima wielded a real blade. Musashi struck him down and killed him, marking his first victory, and his first killing, at just 13 years old.

I want one! That’s great
This was given to me by a 90+ year old Native American Medicine Man and another 90+ year old Native American woman who everyone calls “Momma”. It took them a month to make and they steadfastly refused any return gifts. Medicine Man is the one who gave me my name. Momma declared that I am a “warrior”, which I have come to understand via Sitting Bull’s definition of a warrior. The bowl is made of a deer antler because the tribe self identifies as “the deer people”. 🪶 image
Still one of my favourite pieces I've created 💙 thank you for sharing it 💙🎉

Artwork I bought in Japan, created with the ukiyo-e woodblock printing technique. Kameido’s Tenjin shrine is the subject, dedicated to a god of scholarship. Utagawa Hiroshige printed it as part of a series titled “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo”. image
You just broke my brain, cause I am constantly doing everything possible to keep Bermuda grass out of garden beds!
lol I have several garden beds but they're all surrounded by 4 feet of mulch. May add stone to keep the Bermuda away later on

Here is my tractor. image It's a 1980 Ford 4610. My great grandpa bought it new. He died before I was born and the tractor passed to my grandpa. He used it while I was growing up. He taught me to drive it about age 13 to 14. Then Grandpa upgraded to a newer tractor with a cab and the old Ford was sold to my dad sometime during my high school years. I drove it to school once for FFA week and took a few of the girls in my class for rides around the parking lot. I was borrowing the tractor when I was starting up my own farm and it caught fire in my shop, and burned up the wiring, battery, instrument panel, and steering column. Dad got the insurance payout and bought a different tractor. I paid the salvage cost to keep the old tractor and we spent the following winter totally rebuilding it, reworked the engine, gaskets, injectors etc. Had the alternator, fuel pump, radiator, clutch, and starter all rebuilt. New tires, new paint job, new wiring harness and instrument panel, and turned some new shifter knobs on the lathe. Now it's ready for about three more generations to enjoy.
I grew up helping my grandpa on the old ford 4000 while he ran a newer/larger tractor. This just took me back. I wish generations of blessings to you and your family farm.

Astro-Compass MK II Used by aircraft flying in arctic regions where magnetic compasses don’t work. With a watch and an almanac, you can point this thing at the sun, moon, or bright stars to get your true heading and set the heading indicator on the aircraft. I’ve used it for surveying and mapping out things on my property. It’s a cool piece of historic tech. image

This is basically the last Rolex that isn’t fancy/luxury. It’s a true tool watch. Which is what made the brand famous originally before they became luxury status symbols. This is the kind of watch you bash around while playing with the kids and ding and scratch it to hell. Then look back on every mark 50 years later as proof of a life well lived. Then your grandson gets it and it reminds him of your life and all the time you spent wearing it. It’s a good watch.
Good rule of thumb with watches. If you can’t scratch it up you can’t afford it.

Nice! I need to share a couple of my classic tractors. I have an older Ford like yours from around the same year, with a bucket on the front pulling a Goossen Versa-vac to collect leaves from around the property. I have a '77 with forks on the front, another front loader with a backhoe, one with a rear box blade, and even a '66 with a snow plow on the front. They all still run like a champ and put in a lot of work!
Many blocks before I found bitcoin, I began collecting analog coins. I could never part with this one. Too bad too. I could have sold it for like 300,000,000 sats in 2015. image
Thank you. I'm seriosuly considering buying one. I've never thought of handing them down to my grandkids. That's a great viewpoint.
A terrifying class III 450nm 0.5 watt laser. I have these goggles that block out the correct frequency (in theory), but I don't trust the cheap Chinese laser that it isn't noisy. I tried it out and while I'm not blind, I still wonder what I was thinking when I ordered it. I guess I bought it because I could.

My only analogue note taking app plus stylus aka fountain pen and leather sketch/journal. I also have an A4, not leather bound yet. The small leather one I take with me everywhere, jot down all ideas/drawings for new architecture projects. It is from paperrepublic, Viena. Nap is a word in Hungarian with multiple meanings: 1. It means the Sun, our celestial furnace of heat and vitality 2. It also means day 3. It also means the first part of “journal” - journal in Hungarian it translates to daily notes -> “napló”

My favorite things are little souvenirs I get when I travel because they bring back memories I made. I got this little cat in Taiwan. It’s solar powered and I used double sided tape to attach it to the dash in my truck. Technically these cats originated in Japan but you see them a lot in Taiwan, too. image

What a great keepsake and it caused me to reflect. I have not one item from any grandparent on either side. I find that incredibly sad on a personal level but all I can do is think of hopefully having grandkids one day and gifting them something of importance to me. Connection between past, present and future is underrated.

This is the bullet pulled out of my side in 2004 in Iraq. It’s still in the little pee sample cup the doctor handed it to me in and still has my dried blood on it, never washed it. Beautifully disgusting Cheers! image
