Buy socks by the pound. The whole concept of “a pair” is ridiculous unless you only ever own one pair or have one leg. You’ll need spares, obviously. Don’t buy ten different kinds; that’s just asking for chaos in your drawer. Instead, grab a solid 1.5 pounds of plain black socks so you can reach in blind and always pull out two that match.
And for the love of God, skip the cartoon socks. You’re an accountant, not the Cat in the Hat.
