Officially no longer justifying and answering the same questions about #wisp over and over again. Here it is in plain English Nostr has been shrinking and dying for years and so I'm trying something new and different to try to improve this. Removing sources of jank, complexity and confusion is part of my thesis why people leave nostr, because it feels broken to a noobs coming from Facebook or wherever normies hang out idk. I'm trying to grow nostr, and not just by spamming a hashtag or trying to appeal to the same bitcoiners over and over again. Maybe you're happy having everything be so jank that it acts as a filter so all we have left are vibe coders, but I'm not, and so I'm doing something about it, other than complaining about it. If you don't believe it or don't get it, I don't have time to explain it to you, sorry.

You don't get to scale a social media protocol to satisfy billions of people without pissing off two dozens of bitcoiners. Keep pushing.

soon we will rename Nostr to Wisp 😉
It's understandable. I think we're just sad that certain features can't coexist, those of us who've been here for years also wanted to enjoy Wisp (with Tor and Amber). But that's okay, I guess we have plenty of options to choose from.

Looks good but does it help what you criticised? I will try it. But I feel quite good about yakkihonne already.
If I couldn't run older clients from before they went full vibe slop, I'd probably have left Nostr and replaced it with nothing. If Nostr is defined by janky software and everyone just sort of laughs about it without taking it seriously, it's not worth supporting. Luckily, the primitives of Nostr allow you to make your own Nostr that's not jank. And if the jank enjooyers hate that then you're on the right track.
As the spokesperson for my normies, I fully agree. Joke aside, wanting to grow Nostr "because freedom fighters and truth tellers" is naive at best. Not everyone was banned from traditional social media for "telling it how it is", and we should stop pretending that it's bad for everyone. You do your work and I'll post my normie shit hoping that the retention improves.
Good luck, I don’t hate you for it. I just don’t know if we need normies here. I wouldn’t say nostr is dying per se but is surely not growing as fast as it could. I think most people are lazy and comfortable with what they are currently using because they are stuck in the matrix… anyways wishing you all the luck and hoping it pays off!
One of the things that I love about nostr is the fact that we're all free to try anything we want. With services like DeVine appearing, sites/apps like zap.cooking etc, there's all sorts happening and I really like what you're trying with Wisp. Fuck the purists. If someone doesn't like what another is building they can just go build the experience that they want. AI has given us that freedom.

Builders build. Bitches bitch. Looking forward to more wisp!
We need solid AI video skills to make up banger ads. Something I will be focusing on learning in coming months.
Yea, Im sure its just a coincidence that these awful decisions youre making that seem to be alienating a majority of your userbase come days after your OpenSats grant Lucky for you, most bitcoiners are retarded
A noble goal. Anecdotally I've helped several people onto nostr and they lost interest as soon as bitcoin came up.
the only thing dying in nostr is the twitter style fame hope of tech millennials. i personally dont think nostr will grow until they give up and leave.
just like most bitcoin devs. constantly making compromised design choices for the sake of mass adoption leads directly to freedom money. or so I'm told. no doubt we'll see results any day now.
I didn't realize that making these client changes was negatively affecting your experience with whichever client you're using. I guess freedom only comes in one size fits all.
people will obv do whatever they want i uninstalled wisp yesterday. just the irony of ANOTHER freedom tech dev making mass adoption choices (similar to the pattern of Bitcoin dev choices for the last 10 years) but surely this time it will result in greater freedom... 🙄

Gotta ride your own ride man. Haters gonna hate, you owe no one an answer. Ride on.
There are more ways to use Bitcoin today, than there was 10 years ago. With more options came more adoption, even if some of us may not like some of them. All while never losing the ability to use Bitcoin as we wish.
I don't think Nostr needs to be like Facebook at all. I think UX needs to reflect Nostr specific infra - like broadcasting to multiple relays, etc.. But that's the beauty of Nostr - you can use whichever client works for you. View quoted note →
Love it and admire your fight! I think nostr will always struggle, but still a fight worth fighting. The big tech algorithms are designed to make social media more addictive nostr doesn’t and shouldn’t have that. It’s like getting a crack head to go carnivore.
