Anecdotally I've helped several people onto nostr and they lost interest as soon as bitcoin came up.

the only thing dying in nostr is the twitter style fame hope of tech millennials. i personally dont think nostr will grow until they give up and leave.
Yeah some of these sites need to ditch zaps tbh.
