I've thought about what values bitcoin operate best under.
Judging by what's happening with BIP110, and every other "consensus debate", how we arrive at consensus changes.
It's possible to extract the values that have shown to align people, and arrive at a solution that benefits everyone.

The immigration debate is a complicated issue that intertwines legal & illegal immigration, the concern of cultural change, strain on the welfare system, the absurdly overcomplicated and expensive legal immigration process, the desire of native-borns to protect their jobs from competition, and a dozen other issues. Until people are willing to separate each of these concerns and address them one-by-one, we're not going to reach any form of clarity or consensus.
