๐ Introducing YakBak โ The Voice of Nostr: Yak and reply Bak!
This is a new experimental app, built via "Advanced Prototyping".
๐๏ธ What it does:
Record voice messages up to 60 seconds and post them publicly.
Your messages are automatically uploaded to your default Blossom server or to blossom.band if none is set.
React to voice messages you enjoy.
Reply to others with your own 60-second voice messages.
Zap messages by adding
@npub19hg5...yv9p in Settings.
Delete your voice message events any time. (Still working on full audio deletion via Blossom /DELETE endpoint โ help welcome!)
๐ง Whether you're sharing a quick thought, vibing with your feed, or just saying GM with your voice, YakBak lets your voice be heard on Nostr.
Try it out now:

More features (like selecting your Blossom server, audio deletes) are on the way. Feedback, bug reports, and PRs always welcome!

there is also a bug that replies don't show until you refresh. will fix.
Kinda like the toy from the 90s?
Derek the dev at it again!

Hmm. What toy is that?
Voice note... interesting !
There's apparently a mobile UI bug with dark and light modes making it hard to see the buttons for playing and recording with Kiwi browser.
Chrome works fine though.

I like the sound of this, brilliant idea. I am yet to enjoy the pleasure of talking with you all via that chat room app (someone remind me the name please?), but I can actually see myself using this frequently.
IM EXCITED
โThatโs what Ser Sleepy saidโ
Reminds me of Voxer, but public.
Cool idea, but I wonder if 60s is too long
Very cool! I have been waiting for voice notes
Would be nice if these voice things had some sort of non-annoying voice scrambler for privacy... maybe I'm too paranoid, but I don't like my voice out there as an anon account :/
Highly recommend changing the 60 seconds down to some stupid specific number.
Like 47 or something like this.
People are weird and respond to weird shit like this. Remember vine?
This is definitely gonna be the new snapchat. LFG! ๐
NO WONDER THE NAME WAS SO FAMILIAR!
it's been bugging me ๐
that would be nice. I like this idea.
I'm not a voice notes type of person, but love the name and concept!
21 seconds. I remember vine, but my phone was too old to use it at the time.
Has Zappix been Olased?
I like the concept, or anything audio first.
Any chance to simply transform this into a native iOS app?
60sec seem a bit long anyway.
47 is a prime, right?
Even 46 or three quarter 45 feel more safely familiar to me, go all out with a prime though
Yeah 60 is long. I hate listening to voice messages from my family that are too long and keep me waiting while Iโm forced to listen.
60 seconds aligns with TikTok, Reels, and Shorts all being 60 seconds from 3 major platforms with billions of users.
Concur, definitely
Thatโs video though, waaaaaay waaay waaaay more engaging.
Not comparable.
Which function differently than these little yaps
A maximum of 60 seconds doesn't mean you have to use all 60 seconds. Some people will say this is too short and want more time, probably up to 3 or 5 minutes.
100% people will ask for longer.
When you have no idea, you ask for more.
Fragmenting nostr kinda like Olas did
Why not just attach a voice note to a kind 1 post and maybe use a hashtag like voicestr to help sort it from music posts etc?
All a new app like this does is split people up into separate groups like Olas tried to do, which is never helpful on its own, especially while nostr is struggling to grow to critical mass
Anti-user bullshit should be expected from you though. After all, you repeatedly gaslit me and muted me when I called you out for saying hashtags worked perfectly on nostr (they didn't) - then later, while already having me muted, you said hashtags can never work (they can)

I personally think shorter forces creativity and effort vs rambling.
Creative people like the constraints. e.g. the 140 characters of Twitter.
Other people like long format.
Agree, also just the virtue of brevity, or usefulness of compression.
Takes likely less than 60sec with posts on the page to remember that.
That's what I tell the wife.
Crushing it!
I love #nostr
It has come a long way since 2022 when I first on-boarded.
Itโs winning!
