Imagine the committee meeting on this era's great monument to build for future generations to think of as the pinnacle of our achievement. Alright, looking back we have some really amazing monuments to top, The Hopewell Road, The Pyramids, and Stonehenge for example. Coming up with something to top those is going to be a challenge. We may be at this for a bit. I have an idea! What if we cover the entire planet in a thin layer of plastic garbage from the peak of the tallest mountain to the bottom of the deepest sea. Perfect! I guess it wasn't so hard after all!

You know that saying, if the only thing you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail? Government mission creep is like a hammer that systematically smashes all your other tools until the hammer is all you have.

A little real world task test of AIs. Replacing a water heater anode rod. I ran into trouble with leaks around the new rod and decided to dummy check with AI to see if I was missing something dumb. Deepseek v4 flash advised to retape and try again. If that fails helicoil or new water heater. Retape failed. Helicoils that size are $200 and not available locally. Kimi k3 recommend a paint on pipe thread sealant with kevlar fibers in it. $8 and available at the local getting spot. This worked on the first try. Running it back I asked them both fresh for common problems people run into during an anode rod replacement and how to be prepared for them. Deepseek didn't mention the leak after new install. Kimi mentioned it was a risk and advised a liquid pipe dope instead of Teflon tape. Anyhow, that job took way longer than I planned for but I did succeed.
Dear parents, If your correction doesn't stop the behavior, your kid has done the calculation and decided it is worth it. You need to escalate in some way. I do escalate and I do punish other people's kids who damage my stuff, right in front of the parent even. Don't bring little Timmy with "impulse control problems" around my house unless you want to accidentally learn that Timmy knows how to behave and just doesn't respect you.
BRB, about to go rob one of those restaurants with the walls covered in old license plates. They can keep their money, I'm not a monster. View quoted note →
The news has insisted for years that America would lose a cyber war to China. Who knew they were right and it would be such an obvious and preventable own goal. View quoted note →

For those looking for metal storage for seeds but don't want to pay the Bitcoin markup. 6" x 6" x 1/8" stainless sheets are readily available. The markup from the usual suspects is in the marking and Bitcoin branding. I did a quick markup on card stock with my 1/4" letter and number stamps as a guide. 1/4 is larger than most sets on the market. Mechanical pencil for scale. image Letters per row. This is generous because of the taper at the end and possible skinny letters. image Vertical wiggle space in the rows. image
