After spending about a week on Primal, a few things have stood out to me, enough that I felt it was worth sharing honestly. First, the people. I have felt welcomed, and that matters. That said, the platform itself has felt very Bitcoin-heavy. I want to be fair here, this could simply be my first-week experience. It may come down to who I’m following, or the default accounts suggested when you first sign up. I actually had to unfollow around 300 default accounts and am currently following only a handful of people. So this might not reflect Nostr as a whole, but first impressions matter. For someone coming from Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok, that initial feed can feel overwhelming. This is especially true after already navigating the learning curve of protocols, relays, wallets, npubs, and nsecs. Another small but noticeable difference is posting style. Heavy text-and-link posts and hashtags mid-sentence. It’s not wrong, just unfamiliar, and it adds friction for new users. I don’t think the solution is asking people to change how they post. A simple improvement could be better onboarding. Clearer account recommendations at sign-up, or even a short interest-based survey to help new users find content that actually resonates with them. For my part, I want to be the change I want to see here. I’m going to post the way I did on TikTok and Facebook. Real, creative, human content. Not following an existing Nostr trend, but bringing genuine social energy into the space. My hope is that by doing that, I can help build, at least around me, the kind of decentralized social experience I’d actually want to use. This is just one creator’s first-week perspective. But I suspect others may feel the same. #introductions #nostr #primal #decentralized #creatoreconomy #socialmedia #authenticity #firstimpressions

I concur with much of this Sim. I was hoping to create a/some follow pack(s) for onboarding purposes, especially for Aussies as I don't see many here. I originally didn't use a follow pack but just searched for music and found ppl to follow from there. I'm spinning a lot of plates so haven't gotten to that yet. I have never been big social media user so it's all greek to me - never even had a fb account! And not being a bitcoiner was a massive learning curve to cover as well. But I've relied heavily on the community here and so many people are just willing to help and answer questions it's been really refreshing.
Something that helped me find non-bitcoin content is to: 1. Follow a hashtag of one of your interests 2. Follow npubs that appear in that hashtag result, if their content matches. Some people just spam a bunch of hashtags, regarless of their content. 3. Go to the profile of one of the npubs from step 2, and look at who they are following. Some of them will have names that make it obvious that they have the same interests in step 1. You can also look at their notes to determine if they're worth following. 4. Repeat step 3 with the new npubs you found in step 3. Do this enough times, and you'll be following all 12 users of Nostr. 😜
Be generous with the unfollow button (if it works 😆), and slowly build follows as you find people you resonate with. I see very little bitcoin content in my feed fwiw
Yeah it's a little overwhelming to begin with. Thanks for being the first to reach out! 😁
Yes man! Love this breakdown. Follow lists are available. In certain apps. I think @primal has them also I think. It takes effort to form your own feed. Been busking since I was 14 years old. Respect! For the troubadours! I always say. Nostr and V4V music is like 'busking on the web with optional anonymity!' Keep on rolling and rocking!
Hey Moron! Decided to check up on you, i'm the guy that replied to your initial youtube video; as you might imagine watching that first video of you installing Snort and Spring, instead of picking either Primal, Amethyst of Yakihonne from that list of apps was tragic haha. Glad to see you made your way to primal and managed to get going Thank you also for documenting the process you are going through installing the app, and giving this type of feedback, its very helpful to my understanding how newcomers experience all this stuff. My response: How do I get this across....Lets say two things are true at the same time: First, its not a platform, Primal is not a platform, Nostr is not a platform...relays can act as platforms, perhaps, but you have to realize you are arguing against the ephemeral clouds here. Its not much different than saying that there is too much bitcoin content on the internet, that there are too many bitcoin websites etc. Its silly because Nostr is not ''a space'', not a platform like i mentioned, its a system facilitating freedom of association in all kinds of different ways (tweets, pictures, videos, chatgroups, livestreaming, code creation, recipes, apps, games, all the various things people use the web for). Bitcoiners just happen to be the initial community adopting Nostr, and tweets the first type of usecase, so it is dominant among al dozen Nostr users out there; yet other non-bitcoin people and stuff is out there, perhaps a bit harder to dig up due to circumstance. Same things goes for any ''way of posting'', but as you already mentioned you will just stick with your way, and that is the precise correct attitude; we don't share 'a space' here, there is infinite interoperable space for everything to just exist next to each other. Second (and true at the same time); I understand that as a new user, with 0 intuition what on earth it even is what you entered, everything is just very ''de facto''. There is this app, Primal, and thats ''the thing'', and the onboarding facilitated by that app is ''the thing'', and the people you initially see using that app, is ''the thing''. That fact this notion that there even is a ''thing'' is a mirage of your own imagination, is of no value/concern to you, because you are ''user'' with ''user experience'' and ''user expectations'' from ''the thing''; and if any of it is not to your liking you will simply move on to another ''thing''. I recognize all of this, but this is a concern for the app developers/Primal on how to cater to you as a ''user'', but there are also so many different apps, so perhaps ''you'' (the general you, not perhaps you specifically) are simply not using the ''right app for you''. Me personally? My concern is elsewhere. Im the crew that will call you a moron from not instantly understanding the new paradigm you stumbled into( 😜) , and won't let you rest easy in comfortable misconceptions and misunderstanding. Il guide you to a new intuition on this new paradigm, such that you can confidently navigate on your own. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. PS: On using other apps: thats what that ''remote login'' feature in Primal is for, to log into other apps without having to transfer your keys, try it out! PPS: Funny that @Matt Finlay and you found each other. You both made a youtube video around the same time on how you started looking at Nostr, and i contacted you both to get you guys up to speed, and it seems you 2 are both doing just fine so im very proud :)
Looooolllllll take it easyyyy hahahah This is rather funny that in this infinite space you speak of you still managed to gravitate to this morons rhelm! Thank you for the slap in the face and the roses! Very helpful and I agree with what you are saying. My goal in making this video and many others is to be the bridge. And obviously to find a home for myself for the future. Nostr is looking like greener pastures and I'm very excited for it. Furthermore on being the bridge, it seems to me if I were to break this down simply, You have the tech savvy already on here who obviously also use Bitcoin, block chain etc. it's second nature for them, nsec and npub and using these over multiple "apps" for one identity is second nature to them, Then you have the fb crowd who won't understand a bit of this, and just want to see what their mates are up to or make posts and be seen, share their creativity. I think we have in front of us a unique opportunity to bring both worlds together and have a nice campfire and all be friends. Lol I realise I'm over simplifying this but I hope you get the jist from this rambling moron. I know I've only just scratched the surface, but I know there is treasure underneath that surface and I'm going to keep digging! 😁 Thanks for reaching out.
Yeah Sim and I have similar goals here. We both non-bitcoiners musicians looking to escape the control platforms and helps bring others along with us. We are both trying to get the lay of the land so we can guide others here. I just onboarded someone through Primal. I chose that app because they keep everything fairly simple but you finish with a wallet, a signer and a X-like feed within a few mins. They now have a Nostr 'home base' but can easily explore beyond to other apps and use cases if they wish. I'm pretty stubborn and must people would have suffered through of the misadventures I did to find my way here so finding the smoothest process for others was a priority for me.
i pointed Sim to Primal for that exact same reason, especially because he already had such a terrible experience initially, haha. Remind me to ask you in a month or so how that on-boarding others experience is going for you.
And Sims thought's on what people expect coming from the platforms are what I expect most newbiew will share. I get the protocol concept but most will not, at least not straight away. I pitch it as X-like would be the simplest to meet expectations. Obviously it's far greater than that but its difficult to explain this, much easier for them to experience it themselves. Thanks fort your help and input. Much appreciated.ll You're not based in Australia are you @Constant?
Ever since Primal integrated the remote signer, im more comfortable with people (initially) using primal, because it instantly became the easiest way to explore the broader app ecosystem....a super amber if you will
I'll make sure to check it out soon. I'm making a video for onboarding noobs like me..for now I'll point them here. It's a good start point so far.
1. First off, welcome to the #nostr tribe, and we are indeed excited to have you around. 2. You have indeed made a valid point, and thank you for bravely sharing it with us. People have already shared with you how you can find like-minded individuals or those with the same interests. And if I may add, the below helped me adjust to nostr: 3. One week on nostr will not be enough for you to learn about it. I have been here for almost a year, and I am still discovering new things about it. Even the early adopters of nostr are still figuring it out. You may need to read more about nostr as an infrastructure (protocol, apps, relay, security) and its user base. Nostr is an ever-growing, evolving infrastructure. Apps come and go, and so do the users. This is because it is a different kind of technology. 4. You need to reorient how to use social media from square one, unlike conventional TikTok, Facebook, etc. (centralised). 5. If you want to grow, you need to engage with people. Yes, the majority of the users are into #btc, but I hope that does not put you off. As for me, I do not talk about bitcoin. There is niche content out there, but you need to do the legwork and searching. Depending on the app you are using on nostr, the algorithm here is not like that of centralised networks. In order to personalise your experience, you have to either follow hashtags, e.g., #asknostr, #plebchain, #nostr, #grownostr, to find people and content. These are the major hashtags, except for #btc, based on this site, asknostr.site, which tells you all major hashtags. And for search, use ants.sh. There are plenty of resources out there, and you can start from the nostr website. I hope that helps, and again, we are pleased to see you around. 🫂 🎉💯👏

Welcome 👏🏽💯🧡
What a lot of people don’t realize is You can just vibe code your own nostr client and still be connected to the network in the way you want and view content the way you want. You cannot do this with big tech as easily.
Good feedback, and welcome to Nostr. I’ve been around for a bit, and what stands out most is the authenticity. Sure, there’s some “buy my thing,” but it’s still a smaller, more people-first community. Glad you’re here.
yo Sim, welcome & keep it up.🤘🏻 I believe you will feel inspired by the specific nostr energy in no time. There‘s a number of musicians and other creatives. Do the work and find them.
I #dunno maybe it's just #me or the cult I came from. It's probably not weird, maybe it's #methatsweird 🤔
primal... coconuts and bare chested bois and bitcoin maximalism. not all of nostr is like that but some of us actually care about lightning a lot more and we have a troll brigade of moneros who will try to convert you to pump their bags. jumble.social and coracle.social and nostrudel.ninja are all much better
Ur gonna be fine my digital brotha…a great attitude is a real asset on nostr🫡🫂 …if ur interested in real morons bordering on *ss 🤡s, check out my dear frenz in the circle (⭕️) o retarded …it’s an entertaining romp thru what feels like a a group o mostly guys but also a few nostr chix (affectionately referred to as the WoN (women of nostr) and lead by the CoV (council of vulvas😳🤦🏽‍♂️😂…their choice not mine…and a particularly salty babe o questionable morals by the name o @Noshole ) that mostly sh*tpost and go at each other like p*ssed off brothers/sistas (think Cane and Able…only funnier🤔🤷🏽‍♂️)…there is literally nothing we can’t fight over🤦🏽‍♂️😂⭕️ ….last night for instance one of our young studs (definitely his wordz not mine) by the name o @MAHDOOD found out (based on new software available on nostr and if I’m not mistaken created by one of the retardz) he has the lowest “cool peepl o nostr” rating of the 24 active nostiches …this is ackshully quite an accomplishment considering some o the tardz in the ⭕️. 😳👍🏽🤣 …good luck and I hope u find ur place in this wonderful decentralized sandbox image
Everything you mention in your post has been lived by some since 2022. The incorporation for new users is not adequate although I have improved a lot in recent years. And definitely creating content on #nostr is not profitable at all. However, it is worth trying to be the factor of change we want to see. I follow you.
Awesome! Ive followed! Thanks for the suggestions and the welcome!
I'm sure it's been done, pretty presumptuous of me to think I'll lead by example 🤣 But fk it.. If it comes down to me to save the world I guess I'll fkn do it for fks sake. 😭 (We're doomed)
Yeah, your criticism of primal's starting experience makes sense. I sure hope they listen... It seems cultish, IMO. On the other hand, other clients don't do anything at all to introduce you to nostr, and that's just as bad. When I started, I had no idea what to do and basically just posted like, "hellooooo anybody out there???" and got no response and saw nothing because I didn't follow anyone and wasn't followed by anyone. I verrrry nearly quat, in the first couple days. But then someone saw it and taught me hashtags while also telling me to "gfy," which I didn't know the meaning of, and wasn't great after I learned it. This definitely needs to improve. Maybe it has, idk.
That's what people will say, but really... It will be me. Let it be written in the history books... 'twas Sim Cardashian that pulled the world out of the social media slum and into the new a bountiful world of decentralized ummm stuff... 🤔🫩😲🫰⚡

I am a fellow Aussie, in my sixities, rhey just passed a law here, no more free speech, jail up to 5 years, especially if you mention the zionist
The tale of Comte de Sats. A heartbreaking tale of loneliness and bravery... He called out to the void..."hello...? Is anyone out there?!?!?!' and the void was cruel.and dark, and offered no response. He cried that night... And for weeks thereafter... He crawled into a little ball at the edge of the void and rocked backwards and forwards as he sobbed.. Lonely... Scared... Like a lil baby koala, shivering in the rain.. Then, one cold dark and rainy morning... "He... He.... Herroowww...?" Could it be? A voice from within the void...??? Emotions surged through Germain like a wave of Sats through his body! He peers into a darkness and then he saw it... An outstretched hand... With fingers n shit.... He took it I. His own... To be continued.... So yeah that's pretty much your story of how you started hey?
Can we skip all this newbie bullshit and everyone showing me around like some corny Hollywood teen movie intro and just take me to the cool table where I rightfully belong! 🙄
Well done making it to Nostr! Not sure how many Aussies are here. Nostr is public so you could still be doxed and arrested for what you say here. But Nostr can't stop you from saying it, ban your account or limit your reach! So neither can the "authorities".
This 1000%!! Unfollow the things you don't want to see, block/mute words or phrases, and try out other clients! Most of all enjoy!! Follow or peruse hashtags of things you like being sure to add an -str to the end as people will use both (e.g. yarn and yarnstr). Engage with people on their notes and yours, there are real people here who like to chat back and forth.
Lol, this needs a montage. Just skip to the part where I'm running up the stairs and turn around and pumpy fists into the sky and scream "yeah" ✊
I get it... So adding -str on things is like my dog pissing on poles! 😀 Haha, I have followed some phrases etc, I'll need more info on the pissing on the pole though. Ummm.... Musicstr? 🫰 🤔
I liberally and I might add, vigorously, applied the unfollow button and things have improved I must say.
The ⭕️ ain’t partickular or exclusive but once u enter it ain’t easy to leave…also a thick skin is hepful 😳🤷🏽‍♂️😂 … as a dude way wiser than me once said “the door’s open but the ride ain’t free”🫡⭕️ image
As you can see Stache talks a lot. We mostly try to ignore him but ya know the fact that there are only 24 people on nostr means we gotta just make the most of it⭕️ image
One thing about the ⭕️ is that it has no edges which means no corners to hide in. You see everyone and everyone sees you. You’ll get dunked on. You’ll be abused. You might cry like stache does every night with his imaginary hot nurses. And you certainly won’t get any smarter. But you’ll get some laughs here and there which is what it’s all about.. I think. Idk, our quant @node keeps track of the definition. image
😳🤦🏽‍♂️…. @Sim Cardashian meet our lovely token female tard the aforementioned @Noshole …this is my sista from another mother or auntie or something (… we figured it out the other day but I forget now🤷🏽‍♂️) … she wields a lot o power on the C⭕️V… so tread carefully😳😂
Stache recently learned how to save memes. He’s been stealing them left and right. He used to use the same 7 memes that he screenshotted and cropped for the last 20 years. You’re lucky you get a slightly less tarded version of the old fart ⭕️ image
How dare you insult the ⭕️ when you just got here. @node send this man to the gulag and take away his rations for the week. You ain’t off to a good start I’ll tell you that bucko. image
Yesssss!!!! Finally getting jumped in! Love this place. You guys know how to put on a show for the noobs!
Woah woah woah, didn't even see the OP until now. Thought it was a girl, possibly looking for zaps (forgive me, I'm jaded), then see a guy posting a video 😵‍💫 Doesn't care for Bitcoin... GFY
Maybe next time don't lead with your dick and assume it's a female and actually watch the video. Which you still haven't done obviously, or even read the post. Because I didn't say I hated bitcoin. 🙄
I'm just having a laugh. Some inside humor there. No offense meant. You seem cool enough at first encounter 🤗 Hope more people like you come and stick around :)
I appreciate the welcome I've received and that there is in fact a space that I can come to! ✊❤️
I tell it like it is. Sometimes you hate it. Other times you misunderstand. But it’s always truth ⭕️ image
Awesome I'd be keen to see it! I'm also making a cartoon video (it's really basic cause I'm not an animator) aimed at the centralized crowed who are sick of censorship.
I don't expect any special treatment (aside from the fanning and feeding me grapes. Stock/standard) So I appreciate you driving right in. But no one's clarified if I've entered the ⭕ 🤔
I have both wavlakes and fountain. Fountain is behind a paywall (which I won't pay unless I find it to be a useful tool and a replacement for most the centralized stuff. I have uploaded 1 song to both platforms. Or to wavlakes and it's populated to fountain.fm (honestly it's a little confusing but I'll figure it out soon) I'll check out music stacker
