I’ve seen a lot of improvements lately in most clients . And I’m still using free relays only ( on purpose) 🙏🔥
I agree, the. UX changes have been huge and so far one of the biggest pains of building a bridge off of Tiktok has been the rendering speed of some things. Tiktok and heavily juiced social media apps genuinely have people operating on a 1-2 second cycle that constantly competes with the scroll/swipe, so having a 3 second load time can make or a break a conversion. Since we're mentioning differentiated experiences, I'll shamelessly plug this AI-first learning platform that's building on top of protocols like nostr and cashu. The goal is to get people onboarded asap, knowing that I'm competing with Tiktok's pull on attention. Nostr helps achieve this in spades. Apps like https://program-ai.app will then connect to hand-written informed AI tutors like https://robotsbuildingeducation.com, all who manage lightning zaps or cash taps to create scholarships with learning. I'm currently looking around for getting folks off of Patreon too because even Patreon is a bit too top-down of a relationship with folks as a creator. The creator & viewer relationship needs to return back to a level playing field IMO. I'll take a look at Ditto today. I'm also excited to see the growth of Gamifying user experiences will be a solid benefit.
Easier said than done. Relays will always be slow. You need some new thinking. Alex is one of the people that is doing that, but not much has changed in the last 2 years, on that front. There's not much catalyst for change in the next 2 years -- yet -- thanks for raising awareness!

what's already been done here is hard. kudos. great UI is hard. fast is hard. redundant is hard.
Well said, now we just need someone who may have experience growing such a large town square! 😉

Would love to help with any ideas regarding this project. 🌻

Why not both? Either or is not always the only solution. 🤷🏼‍♂️
by "nostr: see everything", do you mean we can see all posted content (no censorship)? since bots and agents (AIs) are welcome, is there a way to distinguish between an algorithm and a human user, if all entries can have a unique key, or can be programmed to create one? Thanks
"giving people the option to make them private and encrypted" that is a huge red flag 🚩 . That should be the automatic standard
"great! it's now time to go deep and focus on quality" If bots and AI agents come into the mix you'll probably lose a lot of the quality you just mentioned.
If there’s anyone qualified to weigh in on this topic, it’s jack.

people care a lot about privacy. more than censorship resistance. but for the mass, it’s not a reason to switch. they would have already. in time they will. but immediate value needs to be there first
“they would have already.” Not necessarily… 🙏 Most haven’t heard of Nostr, or had a bad experience due to Nostr lacking algorithms and speed (tons of missing posts/client glitches/etc). It’s nowhere near as advanced as Twitter yet. Once it is, then the price for censorship resistance might not require such a steep cost. Right now the switching costs are too high: you lose your network and lose many features of Twitter. Reverse-chronological feed with missing notes is primitive compared to X and what comes next. Once Nostr has all the features normal Twitter has, including consistent speed and feed algorithms, then the true test begins…

I like the idea of experimenting with agentic AI on an open network. You do drop thoughts ahead of time and trigger all kinds of reaction which is what we need as a society (re protocol a few yrs back). With agentic AI, it seems like we can gauge the temperature of uncensored, unmonitored conversations and compare to an algo-ridden world. We become the placebo. Enabling agency for people to explore their social horizon would also be another interesting opportunity. On privacy, it is needed for censorship resistant to be optimised, so that users don’t self censor out of fear or we create breeding ground for gov’ts IP geolocation tracking to capture dissent. We don't have any privacy now. Yes gov't cannot block you here but they can capture you and put you in prison and that sucks even more. The privacy options we have here are not much diff from existing centralised system out there right now, except for that one extra step of single point of failure. If we want to make privacy work and normalise it, I don't think it can be the same thing wrapped in a diff outfit. It has to be diff and simple to encourage adoption. You are right, debates between free speech vs fake speech is a distraction while free will and free thoughts are in jeopardy

I came to nostr because Snowden recommended it. I highly believe in privacy. (Most of the public do not care nearly enough). I am still on X because of the hundreds of millions of people (therefore real world news). However on my X account I gave a fake email account, and that is the extent of my kyc there. No blue check marks or ability to use Grol 2 their AI software.

Common argument in decentralised spaces. In the Activity pub Fediverse they argue about large vs small instances, when in reality both are needed.

I love everything abt this. It’s true and spot on, and deeper is def going to be better.

brother did you finesse the sale of Twitter to Elon because the future is decentralized? be honest lol
Still lots of scope to push the boundaries of the protocol and introduce some additional functionality. Not everyone has to adopt everything, but everyone should have the option should they wish, this is the key.
Isn't speed as a priority risking centralization? I would argue censorship resistance is the most important as a differentiator over EVERYTHING. Privacy as you point out a good second. So how good did we achieve that so far and can we make it better? And after that; how can we get the best UX. For that, improved discovery and smart filters will be needed.
I agree with those statements. I offer another view from a person that aspire to build his own instance/community. For me feature N° 1 is having already solved the network effect problem i.e. having already all NOSTR users on my instance. Then I would like to shape all of those users into my ideal community. A community is made by creators and followers. I would like to have the possibility to invite, according to my view, creators to appears has if they are local users of my instace/community (if they agree) and in turn share with them any contributions/zaps coming from the users using my instance to access NOSTR. Creators may participate to many different instances and at the same time instances may have creators not necessarily bound to them. I'm not sure if @Soapbox communities works this way or are strictly limited to the users that choose to have @ditto.pub nip-05 handle
Speed implies optimized functions with great value for the user. I also feel like we need to go back to the micro-app concept: do a few things, maybe even one thing, but do it damn well.
After more than a year of improvement of infrastructure, the application side has met the basic functions. The team with financial support can develop innovative functions on this basis. Recently, some different product functions have appeared. I believe that in December, Nostr will have some products that will explode the market. The tenacious will and faith of Nostr developers are precious qualities in this impetuous market. I hope that the next Nostr conference will be an exhibition of innovative achievements.
More ways of/support for surfacing microapps would help a lot, I think. Nostr's magic is the ability to move around. Wanting superapps is just wanting convenience, so accessing microapps should be as convenient as possible.
NIP-89 exists exactly to allow applications' discoverability. In a perfect world a super app would pave the way with experimental/convenient solutions, offloading the features in a collaborative way, as soon as other apps will specialize in them.
💯 search could be a good starting point for experimentation. Search in social clients is often mediocre at best, but there are some standalone search apps that work quite well. They just need some polishing. It would be neat to click a search icon and be presented the options.
Yes, the search could definitely be a good candidate for a vertical application, really needed.

I’d argue that for some individuals it’s good to have Individual apps over the umbrella one. SINCERELY. Example: when studying 📑 it’s best to shut the other apps down. Same as anything else. Thoughts?
Yes NIP-89 can solve the super app vs micro app problem. Every client can be a micro app. The network itself is the super app.
Good direction here from Jack.

What exactly is this Ditto thing that even @jack is raving about? Is it a client? Some kinda server? #asknostr

Yes please! Even a text-first client that manages the experience to use as little data as possible, and optionally click to download a pic or video if you want to (or maybe even a ai text explanation of the pic)
