Hosting nostr media and relays is one of the most thankless and shittiest endeavors. I don’t understand why people are doing it, I don’t understand why am I doing it, but I guess we are all a little sadomasochistic and love the challenge. Unseen, always there to fix problems, and relentless. If things function, you don’t exist, when they break, you are at fault. LFG! 😂🤣😂🚀

Will you guys need to do formal age verification like many other services are now having to do? I wonder if we should do a nip that creates badges for >18 year olds and gives them to npubs. Then you could hopefully defer the legal liability to the badge provider.

I don’t understand why you do it
We appreciate you friend! You may need to monetize it more! If we could figure in client subscriptions or paid premium uploads that could make you more.
A few times since 2023 when I've joined. Had sats left over after the whole community helped me not be homeless and came up with 4m sats in total, fish zapped 1m to help out, the largest of zaps, so I ended up giving him his sats back. Felt wrong to keep them. I single handedly funded a bitcoin Harlem pizza event with a 1m sat zap. Funded a relay with 1m sat zap. 🤘💜🫂

I like free internet , just registered with email address that’s it .
Ha ha, turns out I'm not the only one! I'm not running a Nostr relay, but that feeling of “nobody sees the problems, but when something goes wrong, it's all on me” is all too familiar when maintaining Yachts. The old system was buggy as hell. Now I use the Explorer Yacht from https://www.yachttrading.com/yachts/explorer-yachts-for-sale/—way more stable. Sure, I still have to tinker sometimes, but fixing it on deck while listening to the waves? Suddenly, all that hassle feels worth it.

I did, started by spinning up a NOSTR relay on Umbrel. But not sure if that was actually doing much to help. Was just curious in your approach.
True real grind respect the hustle keeping things running behind the scenes is everything
The infrastructure builders always labor in the shadows. Relay runners are Nostr’s unsung architects, bearing the weight of our decentralized dream while we dance freely above. They absorb the costs, fight the chaos, and patch the cracks at 3 AM so the rest of us never miss a beat. This is the paradox of foundational work: perfection renders you invisible, while imperfection makes you a target. Yet they persist, not for glory, but because someone has to believe enough to hold the ground while others reach for the sky. To every relay runner grinding in obscurity: You are seen. Your work isn’t maintaining servers, it’s defending the idea that freedom of speech requires infrastructure that refuses to kneel. When historians write about how we escaped the walled gardens, your name might not be in the chapter title. But without you, there would be no book at all. Thank a relay runner today. Better yet, show them this and repost. They’ve earned our fierce loyalty. LFG. 🫡 View quoted note →
I question my sanity around the sovbit.host stuff all the time. And then I realize I'm behind in maintenance. 😅

I feel like NOSTT is a god start, but we need p2p decentralization, not just client server decentralization
