I set up a pyramid relay and it's working! (...with some helpΒΉ. Thank you, @fiatjaf ) If anyone is interested in participating in this grand experiment with me, I can add you, then you can invite people, too. Pyramid's inbox features are awesome. I've been very happy with those. I'm still deciding what kind of sub-relays I want to put attention into for this, so I'm open to opinions on that. If you want to browse, it's just me at the moment, but it's here: If you'd like write, then speak. ΒΉ it was actually a lot of help.

"If I can just get six people in my downline, my relay will gain the ability to delete notes. With twelve more, it will filter spam!"
Thank you! I've mostly (intentionally) ignored relays. I've contemplated taking a dive and exploring the breadth of that space.
Relays and outbox are such an important part of why Nostr works, but they can be used build unique feeds for discovery, topics, and social groups, too. All the fun stuff just makes outbox work even better. I hope you opt to join. If you do, and have questions, please ask so we can find answers. 😁
Wow! That looks like an incredible relay for communities! A community-based WoT inbox relay? YES PLEASE! That alone would be incredible to have, let alone all the other relay types packaged with it... This seems like HAVEN, but for communities instead of individuals. @hodlbod would the "groups" relay within this be compatible with Flotilla?
β˜‘οΈ Of course, though cool might be a stretch. I noticed the mobile contrast, too. I like my color scheme, so I keep trying to incrementally adjust it to find a balance that works on both... for now, its a minor issue πŸ˜… Since you're joining, if you want me to turn on the grasp stuff, just let me know. I think I rented enough server space for some of that, but it's highly doubtful I'll utilize it. I also have no clue what I'm doing, so that's important to know.
I haven't even begun to explore what all can be done with it, but from what I've gathered by watching fiatjaf's in action, it's powerful. I've been so happy with the inbox, after struggling with unstable replies and useless notifications for a few months prior to switching. Everything is consistent and clean now. The best part of it is how easy it is to set up an instance. I needlessly complicated things by subconsciously thinking there was no way it could be so easy. Even after creating a little mess on setup, i had more struggles with the VPN provider than the software itself, by far (which i think was more related to my choice of provider than anything).
This relay is still an evolving idea for me, that started as more of an exercise in "normie" setup & usability. I'll clarify its description once I find a solid direction. Do you want me to add you, so you can get some insight into how it is being used as it evolves? ( @verbiricha said its for the cool kids, if that sways your opinion haha) I haven't yet looked into how nip-29 groups are set up within a pyramid. I need to give fiatjaf a chance to recover from playing tech support before I get too ambitious with the more complicated features πŸ˜…
No idea what I'm getting into but, sure I'll give it a go. I'm very new to nostr and am still figuring thing out. If you need to test idiotproofness... I'm the best idiot around right now.
Well, welcome to nostr! I will get you added as soon as I get back to my computer. If you have questions about anything, feel free to ask. Nostr is a whole new paradigm, so we're all learning as it comes into being.
Okay, I'll do that as soon as I'm back indoors. I am curious to see how members will utilize this as it grows. wss://relays.land/spatianostra has garnered a decent level of curiosity and active involvement from my social circle, and pyramid brings the opportunity for users to engage directly with relays up another level, so we'll see how it goes. I have a feeling it'll differ from fiatjaf's quite a bit, just because it's different users doing different things. But it will take take some time to get this built up into a proper community.
NIP 29 invite codes or NIP 43 invite codes? Anyhow, I guess that's besides the point, it looks like I can read ok from the relay, except that filters that include any group-related kinds get blocked
I just added you... you can visit to see the invite tree. From there, you can sign in and invite up to 3 other people, if you want. To use it as your out/inbox relay & to publish to its feed, you can add it as write, read, or both in your relay settings.
Yesterday was the first time I've successfully done anything with command line beyond a basic tutorial πŸ˜… I'm sure I will have fun with rate limits and other hiccups along the way.
I can see there is a reply to this... I think. But I can't read it. I tried adding spatia-arcana to my relays... But that didn't work. I'll try something again in the morning.
I imagine it will be difficult to convey a lot of that information through clients, with different ones supporting different features. Maybe the landing page could utilize a secondary description box, so the root user can point back to it from the short description that appears in clients? "Look here for instructions and a list of what we do" type of thing. If the owner wants their things to grow, they'd need to make it clear & enticing enough to follow links and read, but that is kinda how everything works anyway, right?
I think people currently way under use relay descriptions. You could put a lot of information in there, with links to additional resources. Coracle and flotilla parse them like kind 1s, so you can even quote events, mention people, etc.
I agree, they are definitely underutilized. But honestly, the whole concept of relays as a fun, interesting, useful part of Nostr has just recently started to gain real recognition. I think descriptions will get better as people realize this & let go of the "necessary but cumbersome" framing that's been built up over the previous couple of years. (Exceptions noted & excluded from this statement obviously😊)
You can log into the homepage & invite from there. You will need to let the invitee know that they have access. I think you can create invite codes with Jumble, in the relay info box (and maybe Coracle), too. I haven't tried those yet, but I think the flow goes: get code > provide code > new user enters code via client
From a comms lens, this pyramid feels like nested circles: experiments, deep dives, then signals. Any theme you are leaning toward for your first sub relay?
I would like to think both, but I'm not sure I did the NIP-29 part yet. NIP-43 I'm sure works.
I just can't figure out why I can't view notifications in yakihonne. And I'm assuming spatia points to either jumbo or favela. And that you switched them around at some point. Because I'm back on favela now.
Yes, I switched that recently. The client that opens is for exploring. To use it for notifications, you will need to add it to your "read" or "inbox" relay list. You won't receive any replies there until after you do that. But then, they will show up in lots of clients.
So I need to add favela to my yakihonne read relays?.. I'm definitely missing something here. I don't need lot's of clients. Or do I? If I can read and reply to messages in yakihonne do I need more clients? I'll try to get messages working with grok in yaki.
You don't need to use a lot of clients, no. Under settings (in yakihonne, if that is the client you like) find your relay settings, add wss://spatia-arcana.com as a "read" relay. "Read relays" are where replies, likes, etc to your notes are sent. Yakihonne will connect to those relays to get your replies for you. You have a lot of relays there right now. You only need 2-3. If you choose to use only wss://spatia-arcana.com for that, your notifications will be filtered by the relays criteria, which is quite strict.
Oh you have it there now! You're set. I would still recommend dropping a couple more of the read relays. You will have a smoother experience. As far as using many clients, some do things different or better than others. Some do completely different things all together. fevela.me is nice for browsing a single relay's contents, as if it is it's own mini social media feed. Yakihonne does that well, too. If you're uncomfortable hopping around between clients, I'd stick with the one you like until you get a bearing on the way data moves around. You don't need to change your relays every time you visit a new client. Those settings follow your profile.
I've been ditching a almost all relays as jumble and favela were complaining about it. So that should improve. But does yakihonne not show this conversation because of spatia's filtering? This makes no sense to me. PS. Spatia-arcana is a read/write node. There is also an inbox node should I add that one too?
I do not have the dm inbox turned on. You can remove it from there. And no, I'm not sure why this conversation isn't showing up in yakihonne. I don't see it either, though it exists on many relays. I'll try broadcasting one of these replies. If that doesn't work, we can ask someone from their team.
Well for now I want a place/way to reliably find my messages. Preferably using yakihonne. Right now notifications of new posts by people I follow are legion. No replies or messages yet.
Aha! So this might not be a problem with my configuration. I was starting to feel stupid. And grok is utterly useless. Not enough documentation to sift through yet. I've yet to figure out how yakihonne handles DM's.
Where is my profile stored? And can I change that? If I change it on one relay will it replicate? If so. How? I'll ask from and see what it comes up with.
Your profile is like a tiny file of only your most basic info. It exists on many relays. Firstly, your write relays. When you change your profile information, the old copy is discarded, replaced with the new, and broadcast to many relays that do the same discard/replace procedure. When you log into a client, it goes searching the network for the most recent copy of your profile that matches the key you provided. I kind of think of npub as a file name & nsec as the key to access the file, if that makes sense. That's probably not quite accurate, but it's the best analogy I've got. The more you interact on the network, the more relays end up with a copy of your profile. Things work more smoothly if you use nostr regularly. Relays are just servers run on individual computers, whether it's me with my little vps or a big company's servers, so no one is beholden to keeping your info indefinitely. Old data, unaccessed gets discarded & such
I just need to figure out a good list of relays. And not all of them do everything and I don't really know which nips I need. I'll read some more tutorials and work on it next year. I hope you had a good Christmas. Happy new year!
