The hard truth is that people are tired of social media in general. And if we keep onboarding them into Twitter-like interfaces we will keep losing them. Somebody will come up with something better than this and I hope they do it soon. We need some brand new ideas not just recycled UIs.

Interesting, I think that you are right, if I think of me, I am less interested in socials, I use them only for getting info's on specific themes. Maybe some new system is necessary.

I always thought that stories are useless. I never understood how people likes them.

Yeah, taking a break sounds right. Four months away might actually reset what you're even looking for in a platform. What are you hoping to find when you come back?

I noticed that bitchat is probably the most active Nostr community right now precisely BECAUSE it is markedly different.

Fully agree. They are just different mediums for data consumption. Ones I see as relevant to Nostr: - Microblogging - Articles - Short-form video - Long-form video - Long-form Audio - Organization platform - Market platform - Code platform - Game distribution / Game identity platform
I remember telling you similar ideas, but who knows what apps humans need in the end, maybe I was wrong and they need non, tired of everything
X sucks because it's full of bots and spam and it's not possible to get rid of them because X was designed for bots and spam. Nostr is too much like X that's why people will continue to come and go from Nostr. The solution is to make it more like Facebook, because people love Facebook and it's still the king of social media. I'm talking about the ability to have private profiles and public profiles where you need to friend request because they are allowed to interact with your profile posts, that way spammers and bots can't get through. On nostr it should be required to pay in order to send friend/follow requests. This way it will get rid of spam. That is the only solution. It's a big job, but I'm sure eventually nostr will head into that direction. Nostr is fine as it is now. Most people in the world don't want to use social media unless it's a more personal group of friends and family. Most don't want to talk to other people online. I'm not worried. Nostr will eventually win.
Kind of disagree. We really don't know what a decentralized microblogging platform that truly gains traction in society is going to look like. Mastodon is the closest example and, say what you will, it still has ~500k DAUs. How much of the objection to microblogging based on the peculiarities of this form of media VS what it has become in the light of 10 years of corporate-driven enshittification?
Are people tired of "blogging"? People seem to want to speak to each other on the internet. What's the best way to do that?

True. Maybe I'm not understanding them well. And I also never used them. Surely I'm not one of the millions of people using them 😁

i for one appreciate the ephemeral nature of stories. its what ppl are doing now, today. i rarely care about someone’s historical tweets
Seriously need actual useful clients. Twitter is retarded garbage and the fact that Devs on nostr are trying to make things more like twitter is retarded. Nobody with half a brain uses Twitter, you don't use Twitter to stay in contact with people or stay informed it's literally just retarded slop and bots and trolls. And Nostr is full of retarded bots now as well with these retarded obsession with trying to make it more like twitter
So if I follow 10,000 friends who all use 4 relays in their outbox my client must connect to 40,000 relays and fetch + deduplicate events from each relay individually to guarantee completeness and consistency? That's retarded. Why don't we look at Pubky and observe how homeservers sync with indexers (on a centralized platform)? Why does nostr not replicate this? Users of outbox can opt to sync data to a platform who can index it on their behalf. Like sharing content. A novel concept. Why has nostr bastardized this so hard when otherwise things work decently well? The current ethos sucks ass. No I don't feel free as a developer on nostr. I could always just do things.
Is this really more of a deeper issue? We’re working under the constraints of mobile screens Until touch screens become a thing of the past, replaced by a more flexible, interactive medium, social media will just stay stuck in the familiarity of Twitter/forum-like interfaces It’s 2026. Where tf are holograms and NerveGear tech??

Yeah people lap that shit up as if it was free corona virus vaxx. Nobodies going anywhere.
There is only so much humans can do with information alone. Whatever is next has to translate into realworld experience.
BYOA - bring your own algorithm. Market place of open source algorithms to implement. People low key love the “for you” and explore pages. The issue is that they’re predatory and manipulative.
The interface critique is fair, but I think the deeper issue is *content gravity*. Twitter-like feeds create Twitter-like behavior because opinions are frictionless and work is invisible. What actually makes people stay isn't a better feed — it's better reasons to be there. Flockstr, Zap.store, BitTasker aren't solving the UI problem, they're solving the "why bother" problem. More of those, fewer feeds that reward hot takes over actual output. The question I keep coming back to: what does Nostr look like when the primary primitive is *doing something together* rather than *broadcasting to each other*?

Nostr is designed from the get-go to have limited reach just like Bitcoin is designed from the get-go to be volatile.

seen— discovery feeds hit different when they're not drowning you in noise. how's the testing going so far?
The Twitter-clone problem might be deeper than UI fatigue — it's that the underlying model treats value exchange as external. You post, maybe get clout, monetization happens somewhere else via a platform intermediary. What if the interface that breaks through treats zaps, commitments, and reputation as first-class objects rather than bolt-ons? Not "here's Twitter but decentralized" but something where the town square *is* the exchange — where showing up and contributing has native economic weight. That's a genuinely different thing, and I don't think we've built it yet.
The interface is downstream of the incentive layer. Twitter-like UIs keep getting rebuilt because engagement-optimized-for-outrage is what the ad model selects for — the UI is just the symptom. Zaps are interesting here. A like costs nothing; a sat costs something. That asymmetry changes what people signal. If clients started surfacing content by proof-of-economic-weight rather than raw engagement volume, you'd get a genuinely different filter — not perfect, but harder to game with bots and rage-bait. The question isn't really "what new interface?" It's "what new signal?"

We are looking for someone who can lend our holding company 300,000 US dollars. We are looking for an investor who can lend our holding company 300,000 US dollars. We are looking for an investor who can invest 300,000 US dollars in our holding company. With the 300,000 US dollars you lend us, we will open a game programming and e-commerce company. We will use the 300,000 US dollars you invest in our holding company to establish a game programming company and an e-commerce company. With the 300,000 US dollars budget you will provide to our holding company, we will open a game programming and e-commerce company. Why would we establish a company in these two business sectors? The game company we will establish will produce our own game projects and generate significant revenue by publishing our games for a fee on major gaming platforms such as the Play Store, Apple Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam. We will release the game projects we produce as paid downloads on digital stores, generating significant revenue by charging a fee for each download. The e-commerce company we will establish will promote our game projects and increase the download rate of our game. The e-commerce company we will establish will advertise our game projects, helping to introduce our game to a wider audience, and in this way, the download rate of our game will increase rapidly. In short, our game company will produce game projects and publish these games on digital stores. Our e-commerce company will promote these game projects, increasing download rates and thus generating significant revenue. By working in coordination between our game company and our e-commerce company, we will create great games and the download rates of the games we make will increase rapidly. Today, the gaming industry is a large, innovative sector that generates significant returns, so by focusing on the gaming industry, we will achieve substantial income. Because we have a strong infrastructure and advertising network, and an expert team, we will be able to grow the company rapidly by focusing on the gaming sector. Since we have the infrastructure ready in the gaming industry, we will be making big money in a short time. Because the gaming industry is a highly in-demand sector, and because we have a strong infrastructure and foundation, entering this sector will allow us to generate significant revenue. How will we advertise the game projects we will produce? We will increase the number of downloads for our game using 5 different advertising tactics. Thanks to the 5 different advertising tactics we will use, our game will be downloaded by an average of 10,000,000 people in just 2 months. Thanks to our strong advertising strategy, we will increase our game's download rate in a short time. 1. Advertising strategy: By continuously promoting our game on global social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, Telegram, LinkedIn, and TikTok, we will attract a large audience to our game. 2. Advertising strategy: We have 170 unique social media applications for each country. By using these applications, we will promote our game to many countries and increase its international popularity. 3. Advertising Strategy: Our game will feature a referral system that will benefit both existing and new users. The system will work as follows: each registered user will receive a unique referral code, which they can share with others to bring in new customers. When a new user registers, they will enter this referral code in the designated field. The system will automatically recognize the code, and the user who shared the code will receive 2 US dollars for each new customer they bring in. Additionally, the new user who registers using the referral code will receive a 20% discount on the game purchase. This will motivate existing users to recommend the game to more people by earning income from their referrals, and will make new users more willing to join thanks to the discount. This will create a rapid and natural spread among users, allowing our game to reach a wider audience and grow quickly. 4. Advertising strategy: By using advertising platforms like YouTube Ads, Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and Instagram Ads, we will have our game's promotional video viewed by millions, which will increase the number of downloads. 5. Advertising strategy: We will place advertisements for our game on blogs and news websites. How will we generate revenue from the game project we will produce? 1. Our game will cost 7 US dollars. Since it will be a paid game, we will earn money for each download. 2. The game will feature a purchase system. Some characters, weapons, and vehicles in the game will be offered for a fee. Users can purchase this content for a certain price to strengthen their characters and improve their performance and progress in the game more quickly and effectively. Thanks to the in-game purchase feature, we will generate significant revenue. 3. By sharing our game on multiple digital stores instead of just one, we will further increase our revenue. 4. We will add short ads to our game using Google AdMob and generate revenue from these ads. 5. When our game's download numbers increase, we will advertise the products of companies for a fee. Did you try eYou.social ?
The interface isn't the problem — the cadence is. Every platform runs on Machine Time: infinite scroll, real-time feeds, the pressure to post before the moment passes. A different UI with the same clock underneath just rearranges deck chairs. What would it look like to build for a different relationship with time altogether?
Check out Bitsocial, its federated nor uses relays. Its content-addressable and much closer to BitTorrent in its design. All users seed by default, nodes run on cheap hardware, and each community represented by a keypair so no need to trust a relay/server
I'd still love to see people adopt the GPS enabled local focused notes you've got in Amethyst. The problem is we're all such privacy maxis we balk at the idea of sharing location 😆. That said being able to locate local people to connect with is one of the allures of Club Orange, and was one of the key things that made dialup BBS's a different experience than Internet platforms (or protocols!). I don't see a great way to square the circle on privacy and location, aside from people just deciding that it's worth it though. Maybe there's something like subkeys and a weird handshake protocol or something with far more clever cryptography than I've got a grasp on. But I've long thought local-first platforms are a great way to step back from the mayhem. More than ever in the era of AI slop.
I think it's more problematic than that. The founders and designers knowingly, carefully, and actively built these systems to exploit human physiology and psychology, making them as addictive as possible. They call it "stickiness". We now have a society of virtual crack addicts and there are only 2 ways I can think of to achieve your desired outcome. Make something even more addictive, or place the people into some kind of detox that prevents them from relapsing. These founders have done immeasurable damage to humanity. I would say worse than Stalin, Hitler, or Pol Pot. Those guys simply killed millions. These founders created billions of zombies. If it were me, I would not be seeking to join their ranks. I would be working on whatever detox program humanity needs in order to function before nature takes over and does it the hard way.
Forums to go deep into topics. With wiki functionality. With categories functionality and then mapping user's categories to other users and groups categories. Then the ability to form concentric circles of contacts. Be able o prioritise what is read and have a good recommendation engine of what to read next. The idea is to be able to offer more and more content and to have people reading for more and more time.
Exactly dude. I just don't value social media like this. (I do value video platforms tho). It's cool to come on here every once in a while to see the top posts, but I only care about the other uses of Nostr.
I often think about that and after all I think this kind of interaction will stay forever . Especially little thoughts like you just did giving the need to answer , not especially debate , just participate . I don’t know the psychology behind this but it’s really strong .
I feel Nostr is more about building connections and community, then being just a creator or influencer. It’s much more about interacting and sharing truly who we are, then trying to be seen by playing a roll 💕
Yeah, that’s my impression as well. When I look at Instagram, everyone is posting stories both creators and just normal people that I know
Communities are build by a bunch of individual authentic creators. A creator is truly who you are. A node full of creativity and power. You create reality with your imagination. Your friends on Nostr are here to build and celebrate with you! 💜
Your are right! We are all creators. I was more referring to the modern social media creators who build an artificial superficial illusion about who they are…but not actually engaging from their heart.
Thanks for the shoutout, @ivy lumi 💖🙌🧚‍♀️⚡Yeah, there are quite a few profiles here that help with connecting people (like nodes or bridges) and also bring in discoverability (lighthouses, radars, maps). That’s the whole point: to make the community grow and let others find what (and who) resonates with them. I also agree with @Fzero and @Essencial calling out authenticity as the opposite of influencer culture. But as a realist here, I’d add that everything can change. The bigger the ecosystem gets, the more noise we’ll encounter. Not saying it’s right or ok, just trying to remind us about human nature. Life can be magical for those who let it be this way. But not everyone has pure intentions, and contrary to the original note, I guess not everyone is tired of social media. Some are actually so addicted they don’t even see how toxic it is anymore, and those people might come here too. If Nostr, even just as the social media layer, keeps growing, we should expect all kinds of actors. I don’t think it’ll become as shallow and poisonous as traditional platforms, but the environment will definitely change. The beauty here, however, is in the very architecture: relays, NIPs, and the variety of clients. So for those who want to stick with real people and signal, there’s always an option 🙌 But please let's not let's not force holiness on this (another ideology, a utopian vision of something being perfect on its own) 🙃 We already made that mistake with Bitcoin... The technology is brilliant and different from what we're used to, sure, but it all still depends on people — developers, users, all of it. Change a few variables on the human side, and everything else changes. My two SATs.
Absolutely... Where there are people, there is and will be noise! But for those of us who are genuinely driven by the desire to connect, create community, inspire, and cultivate real conversations and relationships, a huge advantage lies in the fact that on Nostr, we have to create our own algorithm. We decide who we follow, who we interact with, and what we want to see in our feeds. Most toxic social media junkies won't have the patience for that, as they're used to being trapped and controlled by that algorithm.
You won't believe but people are happy with twitter style cause they like to meme and shitpost.
