It’s all doomer engagement chasing for payouts. Sifting through the genuine content was getting too hard. I’ll keep my account there for now but I dont think it’ll be long ❌
Probably too addicted to their algorithm feeding them bullshit to get distracted. Nostr is precisely the opposite, some people you follow, scroll a little and you have seen it all; back to real life.
So 9k users last week. 🤔 I feel like for a new user getting here and seeing all the talk about user retention and seeing stats about how few people use Nostr could be contributing to user retention issues.
The bottom number is the actual number. If someone has no followers and didn't finish setting up their account it's not a new user. Just someone making new accounts to inflate their follower count or new users who immediately gave up and left

Or bots. I set up a watchtower to hit me up when our site goes down. I expect the ai agents to come out in force this year.
I cannot believe this. An influencer would omit critical details to get engagement, and to keep followers in the echo chamber. How could this happen

I think it would be strange though, if a stat site meant to replace nostr.band, and was released after it went down, also relied on it to be able to calculate accurate stats.
I haven't checked. I'd assume it's still down. But there's no way nostr dropped 60% of activity overnight, for no reason. ReplyGuy and the lovely porn bot of June didn't even do that. I think stats are just _really_ hard.
In my side chats about Nostr I have seen some comments on how slow it feels lately. I somewhat concur, my feed seems a lot slower, and I'm on a lot less too due to that.
The stats site is different than people connected to their relay, though. I'd assume new stats collection would still want to use that info as a source. That was/is a popular one in many lists. Probably easier to monitor than 100 tiny relays.
Hmmm. I could be mistaken. But maybe it's a compiling problem of people posting and not being seen since its not going to the big relay that many popular clients look to for posts, so they quit or take hiatus since they think everything died.
Interesting. I have no clue what "smart relay selection" means. The site shows the top 50 relays in 10002s, but it doesn't say what (if any) part that has in the other data shown or give any indication of how many relays are actually being monitored. relay.nostr.band is #7 though. Relayable is listed in the top 12... still lots of education to do 😅
My main takeaway is that it is using it's own database of events(currently indexed: 812.09M events · Nov 6, 2020 – Jan 13, 2026), and continually gathering from other relays, which it obtains from users kind 10002 events. I also noticed the mutiny wallet relay is in the top 50. I swear it's been two years since that closed shop. Could be unaware users, and likely some of the group who have left. No need to update your relays if you're not using Nostr anymore.
Seems like the funnel may need some work. What are the main channels people come in to Nostr from? Would love to take a look at copy and experience the funnels as a brand new user creating an npub.
It's a strange one. Normal app 1st interaction e.g. app install = start date Next interaction e.g. login = retained Nostr network Maybe lurking invisibly for years 1st note = start date May continue lurking for years No install or session tracking exists If not posting notes, this chart shows as churned
lol... relays I haven't been running for like 2yrs are somehow in the top 10... wtf.... and only 13 of the top 50 saved relays are online 😬 image

Same feeling. Less noise, fewer incentives to perform, more room to actually think.

I told you you would have to remove me also I was unable to find any mystic content whatsoever I will end up having to run my own pyramid scheme
So - what's happening here is that it gets the full list of all pubkeys that we've seen, then fetches the most recently published 10002 event for each, then get's all the relay URLs from that (normalizing the URLs and throwing away complete trash along the way) and then counts. Yes, there are a lot of pubkeys that have very old relays on their lists. There are also obviously some bot forms in there as well I'm guessing.
That's actually really interesting (and good to know since I was worried that I was missing something).
There is likely some tuning that I need to do on that W0 calculation to filter some extremely low intent/low value pubkeys from the calculation.
So we just adjust the KPIs until they make us feel better?Or do we actually want to address the real issue declining retention? From my pov, but im just a retarded user, we are already losing most new users before they even fully join. That’s not a market problem. That’s a “we” problem. If we care about longterm success we should focus less on reporting comfort and more on fixing the friction? 🤷‍♂️ Truth is uncomfortable but comfort never built anything meaningful…just my 21 sats i have no fu clue 🤷‍♂️💜🫂
Hmmm, ok..I am not very techy but I think I get it. So... For instance if Bitchat automatically generates nsec/npub for new downloads (does it do that?)... And if there was a spike in downloads that could be such other events signed without Nostr profiles created (reflected in these charts)?
Visibility on X has dropped significantly and much of our content is not reaching our followers. For this reason we will begin posting more on Nostr. Follow us if you are interested in Bitcoin news from a Mexico based perspective and updates from aureobitcoin.com
I don't actually know how Bitchat works. A profile event (kind 0) is just a special kind of note. Like a kind 1 note, but with different tags. If an npub creates that note and signs it with their nsec, then they have a profile. Otherwise, not.
The apps need to get better, my experiences have been getting worse over the last 6 months. Or do I need to pay a centralized relay?
I fucking love NOSTR and I don't give a fuck who thinks I'm weird for it. The other protocols just aren't worth the effort and lack the openness I now crave. I'd prefer to scroll "latest" of the ones I follow over any algo any day of the year. View quoted note →
