Nostr slowly grows because weirdos find it by rummaging through the bins down the pissy "decentralised web" alleyway. It also has some bitcointwitter 'people' who join because they saw the 800th video of some bitfluencer pay for a cappuccino with lightning and mention nostr. There's too much focus on catering to the latter and not on the former. The weirdos tend to leave after a while unfortunately.
I mostly blame primal.

i'm still here, fren :3
And here, watch me zap 7 users from 7 phones running 7 clients faster than a Chinese kid can solve a Rubik's cube.
I am the former. This is so much better than mastodon.
And 100% I blame primal too.
I first signed up with primal and thankfully people told me to try other clients before I have up on it
Before I gave up on it* my auto correct hates the word gave and always changes it to have for no reason
The bitfluencer thing is gross but unavoidable when there's money to be made.
this is on point, Primal sucks, it's not a real Nostr client and keeps putting out videos of a naked harassing people with his KYC Primal wallet
I don't really have beef with the Primal influencers, personally. I think it's just poor marketing. The only way Primal can think of growth is through convincing more of bitcointwitter to join nostr. This is either because they don't really know anyone else exists (some people think bitcointwitter is the whole of twitter), or don't care, or prefer to just build bitcointwitter2.
They can obviously do whatever the hell they like, including continue building a bitcointwitter offshoot chatroom.
I just don't think primal should be suggested as a client to anyone interesting.
Primal?
Do you not know the nostr client, Primal? No point investigating really. Although they do have some nice touches. Unless you want the bitcointwitter2 experience.
Nostr?
I see lol
Squeeeak
And finally, Twitter?
I don’t use Primal because, unlike the devs, I like t-shirts.
Joking aside, I’m here for weirdos and outsiders. If corn influencers carry on the way they do for much longer, I’m switching to USD just so I can maintain my niche identity.
I can't stop laughing at this. I don't hate what they're doing, but this is hilarious
This.

I haven't left.
Pretty cringe. I'm here for the weirdos and bitcoin is a byproduct. I have a hard time understanding why people struggle here, although I never had a large following on the socials and maybe that's it.
I found the people I liked, followed them, lurked a while, then started engaging and posting a lot. A teeny bit of effort and I like it here.
The people best equiped to make Nostr better are those leaving the fediverse for it (like I did), because the protocol solves the core ActivityPub issues (mainly caused by Mastodon's bastardization of it) alongside the defederation/admigger abuse ones.
Yet because Nostr exhibits the exact same archetypes people from the fediverse despise in addition to the awful attitudes adopted from the subverted BScoin circles, they either don't stay on or leave after seeing repeated and persistent resistance against addressing Nostr's issues.
One only has to ask either @npub1axes...f27s or @Yonle about the pointlessness of appealing to those who think Nostr is perfect and without flaws (they will more than likely feel the exact same about Bitcoin) to understand why people on the fediverse hate Nostr, and vice versa. Both sides think their broken technology are without problems.
Let’s all be weirdos then
Abandoned account for Verita tagged, whoops.
@Vivi Nella Verita
i blame weakness and poor hygiene.
and primal.
I'm in the weirdo category and Primal is what brought me back. The UI/UX of Primal is a huge improvement over my previous visits.
I'm not that into the online Bitcoin Meetup energy.
Regarding BTC, I'm mostly interested the layer 2 stuff.
When you say brought me back, do you mean you were here before? I think the onboarding on primal is bothersome, it pushes bitcointwitter personalities and styles of posts, both in recommended users and sidebar. This is a terrible first impression. People would look at this and think 'ah this is just for bitcoiners' and leave, unless they are after bitcointwitter2 of course.
Post physique
It is very smooth to use tho.
And the sidebar when you go to a profile page is actually good. The trending sidebar is diabolical.
😂🤣
more seriously though, i wonder if it isnt natural for nostr to have wildly different population groups as a protocol, and not a singular platform.
Same 😂
Sure. I am more thinking primal should be totally avoided as a recommendation to people who aren't coming from bitcointwitter, ie the people nostr desperately need
I blame my 80 iq
that is extremely fair.
in fact, we probably need a weird and retarded nostr app. something completely different from homogenized app store apps. the kind of thing that would send the people who love to say “design decision” more than once a week running for the hills.
May I introduce you to Voyage
i will observe this Voyage, and also check on Alphama again…
I respectfully disagree.
Primal's UI/UX is superior, and UI/UX is critical for adoption. I would recommend Primal to any potential new user. Amethyst second. Haven't tried Damus yet though.
I didn't even know about the primal "influencers" until after I downloaded the apk and spent a few days on here
Their only influence on me so far has been to make me eat healthier and work out more.
Fair enough. It's the sidebar that is the worst, along with the trash recommended users (hundreds of them) that people accidentally follow on sign up. IMO.
It's the feedback loop of keeping/making nostr a bitcointwitter silo
I tried Nostr in the early days a couple of times but never stuck around.
I can't remember exactly why I tried Primal out, but probably because someone commented on how good it was. I was immediately impressed by the onboarding, UI/UX, and overall aesthetics. It felt like a totally different Nostr than I had remembered.
It definitely felt like an online bitcoin meetup (still does), but I've slowly found different crowds.
It would be an improvement if they dialed back the number of bitcoin poasters in the default follow list, or added more diverse accounts to the list.
Their onboarding is super polished. It could benefit from one of those "what are you interested in" flows so everyone doesn't end up in bitcoinville by default
I believe they do do that at onboarding. However all their categories are linked to bitcoin. Eg music = bitcoin music, memes = bitcoin memes etc
Ah I've never properly used the primal app, only browser
I've only used mobile so far
I’m here because of Bitcoin Twitter 🙋♂️.
It was mainly Damus shilling at first.
Because of seeing it on bitcointwitter? And do you want nostr to hopefully one day be anything other than bitcointwitter2? 🤔
Nostr is still growing as a protocol, in time we will all decide if we want it to be a public forum, or a forum for Bitcoin / Crypto.
It really doesn’t make a difference to me because I will still post about whatever I want, if they want to make it a Bitcoin cult that’s all them but personally I’m just using it as a tool for free expression.
If it is just a forum for bitcoin it won't be around for much longer
Those who say don’t do and those who do don’t say.
I honestly don't remember the details of the onboarding. I just remember that it was super easy and intuitive.
I still ended up in an online Bitcoin meetup though. Pretty sure I would not have chosen that.
I don't doubt that at all, any of it. They do things in a slick way, I just don't think their ethos is something I would be happy to recommend to someone who was a total neutral. In fact I think it's sort of counterproductive
Nostr has potential, we just need someone really talented.
Maybe that’s Jack, Elon, Mark Zuckerberg, maybe it’s Tom Anderson (MySpace Guy), or Moot (4Chan), or maybe it’s someone else we’ve never heard of, or maybe it’s us.
We all make of Nostr what we want it to be just like The Internet, & The World.
Find what you like, and post about it, focus on creating the communist you want to see here.
That’s why I try to do, it’s difficult though since I can’t tell my previous Twitter followers of all types to join me here since I got banned.
It’s whatever.
Just need to see past Nostr, and Bitcoin, etc.
It’s about the principles, and philosophy of freedom, Nostr, and Bitcoin are simply tools, and maybe those tools will improve, or better tools will come along.
Only time will tell.
I will never leave.
I rummaged through bins to find Nostr. Nostr is absolute trash and I am not a fan of Bitcoin. However, over here users are the ones in control of the people they engage with rather than a third party. I have found some pretty cool platforms that didn't suck as much as Nostr, but no matter how awsome they are, the thought of mandatory 3rd party moderators is something I can no longer live with. So long as Nostr remains more free than its alternatives, I am never leaving.
Nostr taught me that not all Bitcoiners are in it for the tech, the revolution, or the freedom.

Primal
Is a shithole! Man can not use other wallet unless primal wallet and that's for premium or paid user, just like X musk dick!
The original Nostr client is better. They accept many type
Of lightning wallet. No problem and more integrated into the nostr protocols.
Damus Io is even a dick! Man need paid expensive than primal and can not even integrated with lightning payment yet
'The primal house' hahah
I feel like we wierdos have built a little wierdo nest in the corner of Nostr and we've isolated and fortified our section enough that it's starting to become sort of liveable.
We're FINALLY getting our own clients, too. Took forever.
we are gonna have frickin laser fembots defending it soon tho
😂
Oh dear. I just saw the post this refers to.
Self-parody.
Here to stay 🤙
Niiice.
Bitcoin haters want so badly for this place to not be bitcoin adjacent. It's the money of the internet, though. It's not going away.
There are no bitcoin haters on nostr, there are people who are sick of bitcointwitter style posting tho. They're not the same thing.
