"The world thinks what the world thinks." John McAfee. Sorry to read. Feel the same. Focusing on self. Live a good life. Set the example. Fuck the rest.
I'm starting to feel the same. So many promises of second layers and blah blah blah. I can't even find a working non custodial wallet. And if you do, they end up persecuted, hacked, or you get rugged. Very few talking about the truth of what seems to be happening. I mean, sure, ngu is awesome, but where the electronic p2p cash that enables micro transactions and is private? Where's my fuck you money? I don't want to spend any of my corn. It doesn't make sense.

Just focus on making it decentralised and secure. Fuck the bells and whistles
Umm bitcoin doesn’t care, it will keep going into the future regardless of how we feel. Has a long way to go before it’s a medium of exchange for people other than .02% of the earth’s population who have it. The dollar is on its way to failure and honestly it’s better that it dies slowly over the next few years instead of at once. I’m not worried about my bags being pumped, it’s about my grandchildren not being fucked. It’s freedom tech to most and the revolution hasn’t even warmed up yet. We all work hard for what we believe in and you definitely have. Competition is where bitcoin will shine over the dollar and I embrace it. The killer use case is not getting debased and that is a revolution upon itself.

If what you describe ever was to happen, it would be a matter of many decades, not just a few years. I think you're just very impatient and losing the plot about it. Relax and stop comparing Bitcoin to shitcoins... Those are really designed for empty ptomises. Bitcoin already changed the world, and will continue to do so. And the world is 100% a better place with Bitcoin than without.

I have purchased to following things with lightning in the last week: - no kyc AI using PPQ.ai - no kyc vpn using Mullvad vpn - a mail server using namecheap At the moment seems like nimble privacy focused online services companies are at the forefront of adoption. My guess is next will be small businesses who want to avoid taxes (the ones that give you a good discount for paying cash, you know the ones) Others are ecommerce who want to avoid the massive stripe \ PayPal fees and avoid chargeback risk. In each of these areas BTC lightning doesn’t off an on-par experience but actually a better one. I used to be the BTC is digital Gold. Going through the process of actually using it as money made me realise that it can be used as money as Satoshi wanted.

I’m actually moved by your post. I totally get it. Sounds like bitcoin burnout. My 2 cents is that bitcoin is « larger » than the human individual mind. It does whatever it wants and it’s a painful test. It operates on way larger time preferences and numbers than what we can withstand. How many first gen bitcoiners didn’t sell ? How many of us were faced to a wall trying to orange pill normies ? It is just too much, too much novelty too much change… it will take decades you know. From my experience and understanding humans are weak and can’t handle individual sovereignty. Self custody is a burden so few of us can bear and most people actually wanna be controlled. I think bitcoin made hou see the reality of the human soul. And it’s disappointing for sure. I think saylor is right about the future and it will be integrated into the banking system and most people will never even touch the base layer. But bitcoin does bitcoin things and the world will still be better, just because for those who can grasp it bitcoin will favour them.

Can't relate, either. Escaping never ending abuse & theft of life energy from the central banks & the criminal commercial bank cartel is A killer use case ... among many. Gave me the economic horse power to be able to bring a child into the world. ... plus you can buy coffee with it, if that floats your boat. ... plus cashu npub12qz56plzehejkyp4waaannmnny4y4c30j8q55a3wlk49haslga2snypdx8 glib description of these & other things as just "instrument to speculate" is fucking bullshit imho

The tracing aspect is still a concern. But don't you think it's a little early to be pronouncing the entire project dead?
Lol you expected the fiat system to be completely overturned in 15 years? You expected abusive governments that have existed for centuries to be beaten in 15 years? By a technology that hasn't existed before? If that's what you were promised then yeah, you were lied to. I've seen tooling improve massively even since I came into the space 5 years ago. Of course it has to outpace fiat. It would fail if it didnt. And I don't see how the fiat system is doing anything better than Bitcoin. At least not for me. That's why I adopted Bitcojn and keep using it.
Pushing new op_codes because you “don’t even care at this point ” and only want “some cool toys to play around with” is exactly how Bitcoin fails.

More than anything, making Bitcoin appear to and actually be useful is what we should be focusing on. That includes improving the tech, but also relies on making applications that allow for it's usage as money, whether that be for food, AI queries, banking infrastructure, etc. People need to see and experience first-hand that it can be and IS used outside of just sitting in cold storage.
Well, I'd say living a happy, prosperous life already goes a long way to spite the evil SoBs. Nonetheless, the way I see it bitcoin is a tool in the belt of those who try to non-violently move the world towards liberty for everyone, a fight that is still, and will always be, worth fighting. And well, maybe it's not the primary tool anymore, and maybe the mob has caught on to how it can be tracked, to me that means there is a clear and present need to further facilitate and anonymize the exchange of bitcoin for fiat cash. Or maybe to simply mint new, smaller silver coins for daily expenses. Bitcoiners like to say their technology is unstoppable but nearly everything can be overridden by violence, so another worthwhile cause, instead of merely evading KYC ("kill your customer") and other ways of tracking is to work to reduce institutionalized violence, break up large nation states into much smaller entities more likely to achieve consensus without the need for oppression, and truly bring about not just financial, but political freedom. Oh and especially if you're in the US but elsewhere as well, work to strengthen individual gun rights, can't rely on the State to safeguard your liberty if the State is the only one trying to reduce it.
It changes my life every day for the better. Perhaps it is you that have changed for the worse. Not Bitcoin.

lol bitcoin is not the foundation to build cool stuff on. You build robust stuff here for people from all walks of life. Go to shitcoins to try all the new fancy and cool stuff that only technically savvy would use. All the rage you have, use it for something productive, not to complain like a loser.

Bitcoin never was the holy grail. It was just another tool for freedom. Never onboard people to a single coin. Onboard them to a mindset of freedom and privacy, which ironically comes with the freedom of choice which is not compatible with Bitcoin maximalism. The revolution is well and alive. Just need to look deeper. #Monero
I understand your frustration. But posting in a group who is already sold on Bitcoin, doesn't help. We all knew that it won't be the primary currency. It's a currency of a small seg of people who want to stay out of the mainstream. It's a circular economy currency. Who joins that group is up to them. I agree that price is being manipulated a lot by the whales. Most people are here for fiat gains. But just like nostr which gives u sovereignty over ur social media presence without the risk of censorship, Bitcoin allows u to interact with it unbiased. It has its flaws depending on how u use it. But it'll slowly change. Started with square, now PayPal accepts bitcoin in businesses. Few more years for everyone to follow suit. Wait. Keep ur Bitcoin and go live life. You don't need to do anything. It's gold that's sitting in ur bank locker. Don't worry about how gold is being manipulated and unpegged from USD. Trust in the perceived value of gold and meditate.
Vlad hosts the best podcasts by far and isn't afraid to call out bullshit and have difficult conversations. Sad to see so many bad takes in the comments. Bitcoiners needs to have chronic unless, to keep our eye on the goal and not settle for a banker controlled asset. View quoted note →
Not really. Sometimes people don't know what they want. It starts with PayPal and self custody from there and peer to peer transactions is the next step.
The revolution is happening. If you desire “cool toys to play with” and “technologically exciting,” just go buy a new IPhone.
Imagine thinking your decade of ideological purity was "wasted" because Bitcoin didn't become PayPal 2.0. Lightning Network has 400% capacity growth, 560 million global crypto users, and real freedom fighters using it in places that matter.., but sure, let's focus on how the bankers are making money. Maybe the revolution is working exactly as designed: unstoppable, permissionless, and not asking for your approval.

For me, change happens slowly. The more I learn about the issues in the fiat system, the more I believe in the new system backed by Bitcoin. If it happens slowly for me then it must be incredibly slow for normies. We need to be patient. It is clear to me that we need to build a circular economy on Bitcoin. The more we do this, the more solutions get built. Maybe this will create the excitement you want…
Should have come to Lake Satoshi, there are small groups practicing and building the principles youre talking about IRL

Imagine rolling out of bed whenever then bitching that other people fight your revolution for you. Living in luxury off of Satoshi's invention. Luke 12:16-21 Sell all your bitcoin or build what you want to see.
I understand his perspective. Too many suit-coiners pretending the main benefits of bitcoin are not lost if a trusted third party is still required to prevent double spending. They pretend stablecoins are not digital slave-beads. We used to say "be your own bank" and wanted to bring bitcoin to the unbanked. Now tney wear knee-pads ties to make number go up. It pisses me off, to be honest. The revolution still exists, but the plebs trying to change the world have gone underground. We left legacy social media. We build meetups and help local businesses accept peer to peer electronic cash. Wr can't change the suitcoiners. We can't force them to take off their kneepads, but we can fight fiat and we can win. We must, because the crypto loving leaders think socialism and nationalism will fix the dying dollar. History suggest this will not work. That's we we keep building. We need to be ready for the collapse. Bitcoin is the arc. We need to build it for the flood. Consensous is a bitch, but we will achieve it when we need it. Freedom fighters do use bitcoin. You just need to look for them. Read the HRF newsletter. Don't give up. Fight the good fight.
You seems frustrated with your own dream, that's on you to fix. Then, it's reality. Outside of mindgames, adoption it is growing. And yes, that includes institutions who will transform how most people use BTC (it's an open protocol moved on several layers of consensus). Thing is, Bitcoin is a move forward from what we had/have, its a move backwards from idealistic dreams. Bitcoin will not solve all the world problems, that's on people with themselves and their govs. It will solve some problems, it might correct some incentives, will partially solve others, some other it just won't solve. Welcome to life, to non-linear progress. Keep building. Cheer up!
This post largely read as "bitcoiners can have high time preference too" to me. I know a few from class of 21 who are proper psychopaths. Keeping poor company and choosing bad heros doesn't mean real ones aren't still out there.

"I’m living a nice and wholesome life I wake up every morning ... and do what I love all day long" I stopped here, said Thank God for bitcoin, built a family that would never existed without it. With a peace of mind that I didn't had before. that is it.
This could be more of a matter of perspective than an actual issue with bitcoin. You'll be alright. There is purpose in life larger than money ✝️
I don't see it that light, we are just in a new phase. Bitcoin won't solve your problems, you solve your problems. Bitcoin is a tool that allows the user to save and thus have stored time to solve problems. It won't be magic, but it gives you an option to fight back.
Bitcoin is working for me: ✅incentivizes me to work hard/more to avoid force selling my stack ✅safe haven place to store my work/time/talent for future use ✅using without permission ✅ignore *fiat calls* for "make your money work for you"; now just focusing on my craft ✅during the fiat-bitcoin transition: spend the trash (fiat), hoard cash (bitcoin) ✅lots of time left to build out L2s ✅sorry, it may get boring for some

Feature bloat is not how you make an unstoppable financial base layer. This all smells like sour grapes.
Wrong. No government (or anyone really) knows how much wealth I have to tax it, yet only I have access to it and can spend discretely. I am a free person to live where I want, not where I was born or who counts me as their citizen. This was not possible 15 years ago. Fuck the authority. This is the revolution. I don't care what others do with their Bitcoin.

Bitcoin doesn't need to be technologically exciting. It only needs to be the best money.
Damn right bitcoin changed the world and all the parasites know it. So thankful we have Bitcoin. Worst case scenario is being able to buy bitcoin, have it increase in value against the fiat system, and then just cash out if you want. Just a savings account on steroids, ya I’ll take that. Still better than any savings account I know of.
Money doesn’t change the world. People change the world. Bitcoin is just a tool to help the people who make that happen. #fixthepeoplefixtheworld
The year is 1999 (1st grade 😂)I’m living a nice and wholesome life. I wake up every morning without setting any alarm and do what I love all day long. But I’m still pissed off that I joined a revolution that never happened. Everything we used to say that would happen with the internet went down the drain. Amazon? It’s just an online bookstore now. It didn’t progress toward replacing brick-and-mortar retail like we imagined. It didn’t progress technically to give power to the small sellers and dreamers of the world. Outside of selling a few books, there’s nothing that it does that Barnes & Noble or Walmart.com can’t do better. It doesn’t have a killer use case anymore. The website is clunky. The user experience sucks compared to local shopping. All we have is hope that maybe someday this company will turn a profit. But even the early evangelists who joined for ideological reasons seem to be cashing out or moving on. So who’s left to defend the original vision? The one where the internet was going to be a great equalizer? Who still wants to decentralize commerce when the VCs and hedge funds are now calling the shots? I don’t even see my friends at tech meetups anymore. They either became bland corporate guys or just left the space altogether. It’s depressing, really. This is not what many of us signed up for. I feel deceived. I spent years promoting Amazon as part of the internet revolution. But now I feel like a fraud. Customers? They still go to Best Buy. Sellers? They still can’t make a living on Amazon’s platform if they can even get visibility. Maybe someday we’ll see innovation again. Let Bezos build something beyond books. Maybe a marketplace. Maybe cloud computing. Maybe something. But no. There’s no consensus. Just losses and layoffs. This captures how easy it is to feel betrayed during a period of stagnation but also how shortsighted that bitterness can be. Like Amazon then, Bitcoin today is in its awkward teenage years, misunderstood and underestimated and possibly right before its next transformation. Some people are just not cut out for the journey. We continue to ride (no longer on busted mopeds) @HODL @ODELL

Absolutely agree. Bitcoin is not worthless but useless. Other cryptocurrencies are superior for the original rebellion sovereignty spirit. I hope one of them will ultimately succeed. I keep my eyes mostly now on ZANO and also Dash, Digibyte, Bitcoin Cash.
Then they get popular and then you all say the same dumb things about them selling out and getting co-opted. Just push cypherpunk ideas and build/fund tools that are line with that.
Cool toys? 24/7/365 liquidity, fixed supply, self custodial, what else do you want? Really? Been a user of money my entire life, been an investor my entire life, Bitcoin is a wet dream, wake up Vlad, if you feel deceived it’s because you have not been stacking your balls off.
Poor guy, I watched him crash and burn in real time. I did a podcast with him 7 years ago, I actually like Vlad but lately his passive aggression screams, I never stacked any bitcoin
