GN ✨️ #Nostriches Be original, Try to fill in the text balloons ? I'm curious ? 💜🏆⚡️

@YODL i see Only ❤️ No Vibes ✨️✨️👌
Ha, I'm not trying to make the emoji thing my cause, it's just suspicious and I had to say something
Today I was looking at P with an acquaintance on his laptop. I looked at my account through him. He sees maybe a quarter of what I see.
Right. My reactions and deeper than level 1 replies are basically obfuscated. Why would that be the design choice? Seems like bad design for maximizing engagement on a very small network.
Only thing my brain can come up with is it's effectively a behavioral nudge to slightly silo primal users. Makes sense from perspective that they spend a lot of money marketing, and can only recoup if people buy services or sats (for what I understand is a high mark up). If someone can give me an alternative theory, I'm all ears
yes, it's because they haven't really got a plan for monetization and their VCs are probably angsty about that so they are just trying to herd people into their app and try to lock them in without being too obvious they are doing lockin.
making interoperability problems with the rest of the network is obnoxious behaviour in this community and at least some of us (eg you and me) point this out, though my description of the problem is more technical. miljan and paul keating don't seem to care or listen, and the trolling behaviour i got one time about a year ago from one of their dev/promoters was absolutely disgusting. blatant brigading and psychological manipulation being attempted.
being the main and biggest VC funded project in nostr, their investors, and devs, have very little imagination and 4 years ago were probably building shit on AWS, and have no authentic concern for decentralization.
Yes my ears are also all-in on this topic
You and I both. So far I've gotten "less is more." Is it a riddle? Some type of 1984 "war is peace" slogan? I have no idea, but I don't expect Matt or anyone else at primal to deign me worthy of further clarification
I think that's a polite "we don't care about this"
*won't fix
minimalism is a proper artistic and engineering principle of avoiding overcomplicated designs. for art, my personal experience several times over-working a piece of art ruined it. some of the best art is just a few squiggles that carry a message far stronger than a fancy photorealistic painting of the same concept.
but such an excuse can be made, especially by developers and business bean counters, for not conforming to community standards of implementations and philosophy. they aren't championing minimalism, they are just saying "wontfix" in less words.
Yea, I feel like raging out about it is the wrong tactic. Just makes me look like a "hater." I find it odd that so many bigger accounts talk big about nostr is open and decentralized yada yada, then opt to use only one client.
The technical caching server argument, that I'm guessing you were questioning is a much deeper thing entirely, and one I don't fully understand. But emojis and a one liner code change I think I can safely say I understand completely.
*more words*
and i speak from experience. many times had managers, usually in collusion with accounting and marketing, dictate the incomplete implementation of something, and making up fake excuses why it shouldn't be done, even though it should be.
let's just say this lack of diligence, and waffling wishy washy prevarication, disgusts me, and those employers didn't get the best of me.
But their USERS do care, or would if it was brought to their attention. Why wouldn't they wanna see the extra likes? This place is practically dead lol. It's too confusing? Get tf outta here
being that we have LLMs to write most of the code for us now, it's doubly inexcusable.
anyway, they are just trying to sell their premium services and hold customers, and first step is locking them in, at least subtly, so that when they do pay, they are likely to keep paying, and make the VCs and bean counters happy.
they aren't very competent or creative entrepreneurs, let's just say.
I just want the COUNT under posts to relflect actual reactions. If too varied and colorful an emoji set is considered ugly, convert them to hearts. Easy
They may be very competent for all I know. If the theory is true, and it feels like it is, it just feels scummy and counter to the very culture they promote. Disappointing if that's the case, yet I see no better explanation.
It's possible the devs lean towards the "only zaps" crowd. Maybe they're long-term goal is removing like altogether. That zaps comment is a cop out. Bullshit. A ton of users don't zap at all, and I react way more than I zap. It's not meaningless, and I guarantee primal users would prefer to see the reaction count on their post.
Feel like I'm already coming off as a "hater" or obsessed about a minor issue, but like wtf?
#memestr #grownostr #ididitwithmyhands 🤣Paul send me this on the meme "seems like quite the popular request that is being memed into existence" when primal fixes this mayne more people will stay.
What i like about vitor and the devs they realy listen to users . I'm not here for influenza's but for the tech the message and i like bitcoin and bitcoiners. But 2023/2026 (3) years allready come on guys listen to your users. Don't listen to me i'm just the messenger 🐸
How about this? I often see media hosted on primal that refuses to load in my Nostr app. If I take the url and put it in my browser it loads instantly, no issues. I never see this issue on other image hosts.
Is it just a buggy blossom implementation, or do they actively block media loading on other clients to make them look bad 🤔 If so could this backfire because it just makes primal media hosting seem slow and buggy?
Weird wild stuff
We're not haters. We put ourselves in their users' shoes and notice something's wrong. That's a different story. #Weirdstr we try to help to get new people a better expierence here on nostr . Memba the early days on amethyst @Ryan 🤭 before primal on nostr.
yeah, primal has a built in wallet tho, so they think it should be zaps since all primal users can zap.
coracle.social also doesn't do emoji/custom react handling either. but practically all other nostr clients do. they are in the minority in the community but make a very large proportion of userbase, so i guess they justify it this way - "we can do it because we have the people and they are glued to us"
it's not unusual in the world for people to make a pretense of alignment with something while totally subverting it.
they can take my reacts from my cold dead hands
Meh, feel like I'm maybe overthinking it, but for sure I prefer more options and would expect same for most people 🤷♂️
Didn't realize that was case for coracle too, nor that coracle was a large user base.
coracle was my daily driver for almost a year until i switched to nostrudel, and then, later, jumble, and then made my own fork of jumble

Smesh
A user-friendly Nostr client for exploring relay feeds
It's a strong claim, so don't wanna jump to extreme conclusions, it may be small incentives at play. Not sure if I should exactly be mad about it. Never thought about it until recently, and just surprised more than anything
Smesh eh? Think we spoke about it, but only started trying other clients recently. Will give er a spin tomorrow
Just use zaps FFS. Then they can take a sat or two on every reaction made with their built in wallet. Aren't you a true bitcoiner™?
"bullshit baffles brains" - one thing i learned after studying manipulation techniques was what i call the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Protocol - if something seems confusing, it's probably malicious.
we are all conditioned by peer pressure to not question a lot of things, and so this makes us vulnerable to lying ass dogs tricking us, we get confused, and angry, and don't understand what's happening.
when you get that feeling, the reaction you should have is suspicion. if the messaging is confusing, that's because it's meant to weaken people's resistance to the liars.
it has DMs :) also has a keyboard navigation system but it's still a bit buggy and doesn't bring the items under the keyboard navigation cursor (a yellow outline around the note or button) into view correctly as i intended, and i tried for many hours to make it better. i keep mentioning it to ingwie phoenix because he has a vision problem and i put the feature in there after him talking about keyboard navigation - turns out keyboard navigation in React is ... difficult.
it also has a unique feature, device sync, which you can find in the settings, that enables turning the client into a small implementation of a relay with sync extensions, and makes the two clients event databases sync.
in other things, i also made the https://github.com/PlebianApp/plebeian-signer and the latest changes i made yesterday morning fix up some onboarding flow bugs it had. what's unique about this signer, aside from having multiple identities that you can switch between, and a simple profile event editor, is it has an NWC wallet interface that lets you connect to NWC lightning wallet services, as well as a full implementation of a cashu wallet. just thought i'd mention it because Rabble was so impressed he gave it a review on the chrome extension store.
Man, this #darknostr stuff is really rocking my world today
Embrace the power of negative thinking. Reject toxic positivity.
nostr
Daaaamn dude. I need to reread this tomorrow when I'm less tired. That sounds like a ton of stuff. You been busy!
i can't stop working until i'm sitting on the balcony of my hermitage nursing a shotgun and smoking skunk in a meershaum pipe, in the middle of the tatras.
