if you post horrific shit please tag it as NSFW, even if it's "news" in your opinion. This isn't hard. I'll block/report you if you don't

Yes. It's part of the protocol and many clients support it. You can always choose to use clients that ignore user reports. Up to you.
β™₯ Maybe clients need some kind of local classifier to automatically warn you about nsfw. If it all it does is classify, it could run easilty on a phone. Certainly better than asking people to tag for your sensibilities.
I must admit that in this respect, I am a normie. But I genuinely believe that you only hurt yourself by asking people you follow to post in a way that doesn't offend your sensibilities. If the person you're following has no value then don't follow them. If their posts have value to you, you will hurt that value by trying to make them post politely. β™₯
Interesting…no matter where you go there is always somebody crying about things they have no control over and wanting to Block and report things…what you do is unfollow…like I just did to you :) See. Easy Peasy. Now Pray, Stack, be Positive and have a good day :)
I don't want to see gore in my timeline. It has happened multiple times in the last couple days. Hence my post. Reporting isn't bad, and it isn't censorship. Neither is blocking. If people post NSFW content and don't tag it as such, user reports can help to solve this issue post-facto. Blocking is just me deciding to not see certain content. It doesn't have an effect on others. You're free to do as you please, but after encountering this issue multiple times in the span of less than a week I thought a PSA was warranted. I am assuming that most people don't know that NSFW tagging exist.
Even 4chan has blue boards for SFW and pink boards for NSFW. We don’t want to cause problems for relay operators and it costs nothing to be nice with other people and tag your stuff properly.
Or they want to see it but not when the kids are playing on the side. NSFW is just that. It's not "Illegal content" or something. Just not something you'd want to see flicker over your screen at work.
hahal, the blue boards may seem like a good point but those are for advertisers the relay point is equally backwards, the fact that some relays may just ban posts that some find objectionable is a good argument against asking the people you follow to tag tp your sensibilities. just read from the resteictive relays if you care about that.
If my kids every get on Nostr it would be only using family and church private relays, with a client that doesn't let them connect to any other relays.
I trust my follows most of the time to report questionable content. I do not trust the Bluescam β€œtrust & safety” team to make these decisions on my behalf.
One report doesn't do much. Multiple reports by people in your WoT will hide (or blur) reported content in some clients.
Again? Now I'm curious but also concerned about what I might see. With any luck they're already muted. The constant struggle to hold a high frequency while not living in a sterile bubble. GM πŸ«‚

It’s ultimately a way to censor. I’d rather people be their authentic selves. That requires letting them, and when we see them be something we don’t like - to take responsibility ourselves for what we want to see instead of putting it on them - without consent. This respects each other’s agency without creating a hierarchical relationship.

I see your point, that you don't want to see certain things in your timeline. But it seems like NSFW could mean many different things to different people.

who are you going to report it to mate
What does reporting do that blocking doesn’t? Tell a relay which content to block? Tell centralized services and relay networks what and who to block? This feels like a slippery slope.
