To our valued Wallet of Satoshi community in the United States of America, We've dedicated ourselves to providing the best Bitcoin experience with Wallet of Satoshi, being at the forefront of Lightning usability and adoption. However, we've made the difficult decision to remove our app from the U.S. Apple and Google app stores, and will not serve U.S. customers going forward. This decision doesn't come lightly. Our commitment to providing a secure, user-friendly, and compliant platform globally is unwavering. Our top priority is the safety and interests of our customers and our company. We understand this may be disappointing news and we share your frustration. We're hopeful that future developments will allow us to revisit and possibly resume our operations in the U.S. For our existing users in the USA, rest assured that you have full access to your Bitcoin funds. You can seamlessly withdraw and transfer them to another wallet. We deeply appreciate your support and understanding. We remain committed to bringing the benefits of Bitcoin to as many as possible. Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for being a part of our community. Peace, Love and Bitcoin, The Wallet of Satoshi Team 🧡

Except Binance. They didn’t pre-comply.
Yes CallerApp does the same. It was not allowed to record phone calls automatically. So it now provide a link from their site to continue this functionality. WOS can do something like this also.
Taking tough decisions by a team always deserves respect. My Respect goes out to @Wallet of Satoshi for not beeing bend by the US ruleset and go their own way to deliver freedome and resist KYC for all of us. There is no Lightning with KYC. This must be understood. I really hope that you guys use this tough decision for a political statement towards the authorities that violate your freedome. I liked what you do. But now you deserve even somd love guys! Keep on developing the freedome. View quoted note →

Why not say this a week ago? Give customers warning before you remove the app! If someone doesnt already have it installed they lose their funds?
Curious. Must not have been planned considering the promotion went live just 12 days ago, incentivizing users to onboard for a piece of the commission pie. Wonder what the reason is behind this PR message. View quoted note →

So if I already have the app is it going to get auto deleted or can I keep using it without updates until I find another lightning wallet?
WoS are tied to your email address. image As long as you control that, you probably can withdraw in some way. If enough people or funds are affected, they will probably provide some form to withdraw without installing the app. An apk from a third-party source could be verified by any user with access to the app on the Play Store by checking for compatibility. So imagine I give you the version 4 apk and your friend in Norway can install the version 5 apk from Play Store. He now can install my apk and update it in the play app. If that works, both were signed by the same keys. You can check the signature without installing it but that's a bit more involved for the layperson.
Let me read the relevant part to you: > we've made the difficult decision to remove our app from the U.S. Apple and Google app stores
I know what you mean 💯 The worry I would have is this is the way people lpse their funds all the time and install malicious apps accidently. I dont believe you would do that by sharing this app! I have just naturally stayed away from getting apps this way. Same for sotes like apkmirror and others. Its a big risk, but it can work 💯. Just need to be cautious. I am already cautious with open source apps from Obtainium. Closed source apps from tbird parties terrify me. 😅🙏

Still have the app. The Abby wallet connection seems shitty. Probably transfer my funds (when I figure out how) or give them away. Makes me even less interested in the Bitcoin crap now. And in nostr as well.

There are many US bitcoin companies that can’t operate in Canada because of the compliance rules, policies, and laws. It’s not worth their effort. This is totally normal.
I get you bro. Its discouraging for me as well. My bitcoin learning journey has been rough. But its our own fault for using WoS from the beginning. We knew it was non custodial all along. We knew a rug pull would be one day. This is only a call to be more self sovereign. 💪

Come on, stop being so dramatic. No one got “rugged”. A business decided to no longer offer their services in the USA. Everyone can withdrawal their funds if they want. There are many companies that don’t offer their apps in certain jurisdictions. Have you run your own node? Opened and maintained your own channels? It’s not an easy, or free thing to do. Cash app, strike, and a myriad of other “good” companies don’t offer their services in my jurisdiction. Does that make them bad actors? Of course not. Custodial solutions are necessary for lightning right now, for the majority of users, because of all the choke points in running your own node. It won’t be like this forever. If I lose the 10$ - 20$ I have in a custodial lightning wallet so be it. It’s the price of playing the game. This is a nuanced issue with many different individual circumstances that dictates one’s choice to use or not use a custodial lightning wallet. It’s not a simplistic “run your own node!” situation.
Over the spring/summer I had a phase where I was extremely doubtful of bitcoin, and honestly libertarianism as a whole. I'm in the process of coming out of that funk. Took too many black pills. That said, WoS thing should be a reminder that some black pills are necessary. View quoted note →
Now that we know the truth, I'm less than optimistic than I was yesterday when I played the disappearance down. Voluntarily removing their app from the US app stores is one thing, but doing it on Thanksgiving Day when most American's will be busy and wouldn't notice is another. Any other day could have been chosen. I wish you the best of luck, WoS, I truly do, but this was a less than optimal plan that was executed badly. If your plans change I'm the future and you come back to US markets or you implement a web version, it will be hard to trust you again. Sorry Nostriches. I was wrong. View quoted note →
I didnt say half the things you mentioned. Its the way WoS did this. Where is the warning? Just pull the app, on Thanksgiving day? They know its the biggest onboarding day of the year basically. If you dont have the app installed now, good luck getting it. I dont have these worries. Im in Canada and stilk use WoS. Its Americans I feel bad for. Its a rug pull in some sense of definition. We all define things slightly differently. Nothing dramatic about these realizations.

That’s the best point. It’s just a game. Zapathons etc. Disconnecting Bitcoin from nostr is most likely a good thing for nostr. I like Damus. Never thought much about Bitcoin and zaps. But WoS just made Damus look bad. Like Trump on Twitter.
Thanks. I mostly onboard people to Mutiny and Zeus as it stands now ;) I can only think of a few times I recommended WoS. And when I did, I told people to free to their own self custodial solutions.
Happily receiving your sats if you're out. Though it feels like you're trolling. Or maybe you haven't done your research and are very emotional 🤷🏻‍♂️ Bitcoin, though being around for 15 years is still new technology and we are all early adopters here, especially with the Lightning network. Lightning right now should be thought of as "in beta". It's very close to ready for mass market and closer every day but it is still in development, people are saying this all over the place so i am sorry to hear if this information slipped past you. I'm must say that if you didn't know all of this already, then you shouldn't have had much allocated and if you didn't have much allocated you would have nothing much to worry about. Don't put your life savings in lightning! And only put them on main chain when you have actually done your research and have developed understanding and conviction for the risk/reward. I and many others here would genuinely like to help you understand all of the above so please if you have questions just ask. If it's not for you though... c'est la vie.
And pulled it on one of the biggest national holidays in the nation you're pulling it from? That's politician shit and has nothing to do with peace love or bitcoin. And again, much like politicians, you don't actually tell us WHY.
There is no such thing as a Bitcoin company. A Company is anchored in the State and is ultimately a branch of the State. Bitcoin and Company are diametrically opposed. Only one can survive (at least in the form that we understand them today).

Just so I’m clear with your thinking and the point you’re trying to make, it is your position that Bitcoin is going to replace the state and companies?
Sad to hear you are departing “the land of the free.” We have much work and bureaucratic firings that need to happen here. Much love.
Taking advantage of the kindness and curiosity of others for your own self satisfaction and some sense of self agrandizement is a real mental problem. Seek therapy.

Yes. Obviously. Or you protect it yourself
Look, this is my last comment unless you come back with something constructive or some humility. If you can't see the helpfulness and kindness in this community then you see the world through a very dark lense indeed and I pity you. I honestly wish you the best in your life and hope that you find some light because you need it.

I’ve definitely gotten a lot of things from this community. That being all nostr users. From you, pretty much nothing. Nostr will be fine without Bitcoin. And very helpful in many ways. No Bitcoin needed.
It's good to hear that you're getting something from this community. 👍🏻 Maybe you missed the part in my post where I tried explaining a few things about lightning networks infancy and offered my assistance but however, as you didnt respond to that part of my note and just gave some troll-esque response then no, I guess you havent received any help from me, but that's on you. The offer still stands as long as common decency does. You're right in saying that NOSTR doesnt need bitcoin. But personally (and i think most here would agree) it enhances the experience by allowing the transfer of value. You're allowed to disagree, that's the beauty of free speech right? 😘
If you keep wanting to be compliant, you aren't going to be on the same side as Bitcoin

Beauty indeed. Have a great weekend. And your explanation may be perfect, I am not at all interested. I’m here for pretty much everything but Bitcoin.
I’m all for reasonable fees, but 20% is way too much. If that’s the cost of using lighting going forward I can’t see why anyone would use it.
Yo you guys should reach out to me. I might be able to help you in this matter. cosmichodl@protonmail.com

Phenomenal service. Please consider making WoS Open Source, providing a non-custodial option, direct downloads of the APK and sideloading for iOS.
There's this technology called a VPN If your ability to use a wallet depends on what country you're in, you're doing it wrong.
On boarding people to software that complies with the corrupt authoritarian US govt is not doing any real favors for anyone. WoS did the right thing to tell the US govt to GFY
