The monetary trilemma: a sovereign nation issuing currency can have any 2 of 3… (1) Free flow of capital (2) Independent monetary policy (3) Fixed exchange rates of local currencies China has (mostly) picked 2 & 3 Through its reserve currency status, the United States has somewhat accomplished all 3 (or insulated itself from any meaningful impacts via #3 using the buffer of “reserve status”). This is ending as the debt bubble pops. Bitcoin is the absolute free flow of capital. So then nation states pick one of the remaining 2 options. My opinion: Politicians in “advanced” countries will believe advanced countries *must* be able to choose their “monetary policy.” Exchange rates will absolutely fluctuated…and value of these currencies will melt away when compared against bitcoin.

Yeah, Git is already very decentralized by it's nature. You already have a full copy on every machine that's checked out the code, and any of them can easily add a new remote and push to it. Plus we already have gitopia and sourceforge and gitea and codeberg. Microsoft would have more trouble enclosing it's commons than Twitter. But they will still face legal pressure to shut projects down.

They want to be entertained until the trade off they made for it causes direct pain. Then the tools that are available for them suddenly have a purpose. Exhibit A would be 2020 and the absurdity that was the “pandemic response.” It woke a TON of people up to the concerns over centralization, censorship, and privacy. An insane amount of trust in traditional institutions was lost and likely will be next to impossible to redeem for a huge portion of the population.
