I guess what I'm getting at is that's its ok ,and at some point that's just how shit is going to unfold if you try to do something useful.
Doesn't mean you will end up with what you hoped for, and that's really just part of the process most of the time.
"get back on the horse..." feels trite, but it's really all there is. Give up, or keep going are the options on the table.

I’ve done this. Before I “discovered” Bitcoin I spent $30k and a years worth of work trying to patent something that was rejected by the patent office then the product itself didn’t take off.
Fuck, it hurt. And if I had been stacking Bitcoin during that whole time (2018) I would have a billion Sats by now. But it didn’t go like that. I found Bitcoin a year later and it’s changed my life dramatically in just 5 years. Onward.

There's value to be had from any situation even if the situation itself was undesirable.
You can't find all the value in a situation if you are judging it & yourself though.
You have to have at least have a neutral (preferably positive) mindset to find most of the value in a situation. From there, you either get back on the horse or find yourself a new horse to ride.

I can't count the number of software projects I've sunk dozens, even hundreds of hours into, all for no-one to see the results.
Every hour working on something had a positive effect of my knowledge and self-confidence that I can actually bring my thoughts to life.
Definitely "get back on the horse" and don't lament sunk costs.
