i love nostr and i remain incredibly bullish on nostr, however these are the apps that i use daily that cause me frustrations. when i said this morning that i go from bullish to frustrated and back, these are the reasons:
nostrudel - i have to refresh or reload the app often to get profile names and photos to display. sometimes new notes don't load and i have to refresh or reload to display them.
chachi - chats just don't load most of the time. i have to nuke local storage and reload and refresh constantly to get new chat messages to display. this is tedious.
olas - i haven't used olas since the last update. i can't upload images. the images upload blank or never finish publishing. even the feed is inconsistent showing me mostly my images instead of images from people i follow.
pokey - mute thread is not consistent. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
citrine - no new events get published. i've been at 207,513 events for months. i think this happened whenever i tried to import all of my events from all of my relays. whenever i open citrine there's a notification that it's exporting events, but that never finishes. i think i need to cut my losses and my local data and nuke and start from scratch, but then ill lose all of my local data :(
wavlake - a popup window for amber is displayed every single song that i listen, because it's trying to set a status for the song im listening to. this continues even if you attempt to remember or save the setting.
primal - my NWC somehow stops working. i can generate a new string and apply it and have zaps work for a few days, but eventually it will stop working and ill have to disconnect and regenerate new NWC strings.
fountain - i just don't boost as often as i'd like, because having a separate wallet balance makes boosting harder. NWC is coming to fountain though. that will resolve this.
---
honestly the most stable and consistent apps that i use daily are #0xchat, #Amethyst and #Notedeck (jumble.social is great too, i just don't use it that often.)
---
looking at the larger picture, these are not showstopping issues, but mere annoyances along a bumpy path forward. and that's where we are moving. forward.
keep building.

Wavlake needs a volume bar too. Come on!
Non-techie POV: #Amethyst UX is pretty good After you learn how to set up the relays and the lightning wallet the daily use is quite clear and straightforward
Can I just add, Nostrudel doesn't even give me the Alby extension prompt unless I try to do something (upload an image or react). So if I go there to just write a note it won't let me unless I then go out and do one of these other things. Very silly
I find it hard to keep up with all of the apps. I see new things, they are rough around the edges, I get discouraged, and leave for a few days.
Yeah, this is part of the process - but it's a bad cycle to get stuck in.
One thing I made it a point when I founded Media3 Labs is that weโd have an easily discoverable intake process for bugs/feedback, be extremely responsive, and transparent with the people sharing them (give ETAs on patching, be candid if we need to de-prioritize). I did that because in my experience as a consumer of apps, I see teams being too focused on shipping, not focusing on fixing whatโs broken, and rack up massive technical debt that virtually kills what was an otherwise good idea.
Building is hard, and yeah, thereโs definitely a ying-yang for shipping/fixing and the balancing act required there.
Agree on a few points. Olas is extremely slow on my end and have the same issue with showing mainly my content.
Actually used Nostrudel yesterday for the first time to see my badges but the UX is not really nice ๐
Still love it here ๐ซถ๐ป๐ซ
I use many, many apps, despite their state because I love seeing all that Nostr has to offer. But yes, if an app isn't fully baked I will check it out and then disappear for a while to give it more time to cook.
Okay. That's nice to know. I think that Amethyst is great, but I think it's also more of an advanced user's app.
It took me a while to get used to Nostrudel. Once you get used to it, it's a powerhouse!
"Works" is such a broad term. Many devs focus on new features and don't fix minor bugs. It's...a bit annoying having so many apps that are left at about 85% complete with only a few hurdles that could bring them from "it works" to "it works great". I try to focus on and look at the larger picture though.
I'd like some more enhancements and features too, but for now I'd just like usability.
๐ช๐ช๐ช
It's easy to take shots from the cheap seats (not what Derek is doing) and certainly not my intention, but this is fair and necessary criticism. As I keep repeating, we need fewer features and more QA.
There is no path to broader adoption without *quality* on par or better than the alternatives.

Loved the fountain feedback.
Fountain can't be blamed for the separate wallet thing cos that alrieady existed before they merged to nostr or even before the NWC NIP.
But can't wait to see what the NWC integration on fountain would look like.
In my opinion, they're in the top 3 nostr apps out there
Too much too soon. Habla.news and highlighter.com are still buggy and the devs have started new stuff
I fully agree here and would have mentioned them but I have stopped writing and they're no longer part of my daily or weekly usage, in part because those apps are just not fun to use.
Itโs a pity the devs have pretty much โdesertedโ them despite their potential
Okay letโs go then ๐ฅ
My Damus is set to NWC with my node and it works great, but I don't really use Damus. It's more of a testing device (that I borrowed from my niece last summer to test Nostr apps on iOS).
Agree. Fountain works fairly well. It's a solid app.
So I suppose youโre using @primal with your node as well
Oh. That sounds like you're signed out. I have had that happen when I update my browser, but it signs me back in on first action.
๐ซ Glad to see some of the same problems shared with others at least. ๐ฏ on nostrudel, fountain, wavlake, same here. But still enjoy my experience more than using anything else! Playing with runstr last night was freaking awesome! It is very rough around the edges still, but just seeing the automatic integration of, fitness data stored on relays, wavlake music, nwc connection to albyhub, and amber sign in made me look over at my wife and go, people just don't fucking understand how god dang awesome this is!!!!!
Confirmed- just downloaded Olas
Its crashing constantly for me. Good look and vibes thoo ๐ค
Haven - just always works perfectly
Pretty much. It's really stable.
Yeah when I use Primal I use NWC to my node for zaps.
i must have missed that one? what's runstr?
It's a free market of ideas approach. You have my attention for five or so minutes if I hear about it, if it doesn't capture my interest there's a chance I move on and never come back.
Like a fitness tracker for running and sharing workouts comparable to the nike run app. #runstr

thanks! it's from my dude @TheWildHustle ๐ i will def check this out!
I was confused at first because they have a website too at www.runstr.club Thought that was the app, didn't realize they had an apk to download too. Like i said, rough around the edges, but love the direction.
Advanced?
These apps already work with Alby and have for a long time. Podverse, PodcastGuru, Curiocaster, LNBeats, Castamatic...

that's why I love @Damus , it's simply the best app for me to use nostr "twitter like" (oh no, i said it ๐คช)
Thoughts on Yakihonne?
Please check that in Nostrudel you have the same profile chosen as in the extension. clearing cache also should help!
Yakihonne is actually one of the best Nostr apps that we have across the ecosystem.
im wondering if it's because the DB can't handle 200K events?
i couldn't get it working either. there were a lot of bugs with it. that said, the chachi implementation for it works well, when i can get cachi to load.
Citrine has this built in now thankfully ๐
Better than Amy? ๐ค
I would try deleting stuff that's not yours. I keep mine, but ditch others after a month. The latest version also allows you to delete on a per kind basis ๐

yeah i have mine configured to only allow events from me and purge expired and ephemeral too. i downloaded 250K events again and after it imported them citrine was really unstable, not allowing me to save new events. i have citrine configured to be allowed to run in the background too. if i nuke everything and start from scratch it runs as expected. power users in shambles once again.
Oh wow. I've got all of mine and am at 65k ๐
Maybe you need to enable deleting your older events too ๐ฌ
Yakihonne is great for onboarding too, with their built in wallet.
Amy will always be my favorite girl.
Does @Katie Ross know about this? ๐ฑ
Coracle?
i don't use coracle enough to complain or critique. well, i guess the reason i don't use it is because of the UI. i just don't personally like it. coracle's feed configuration though is the best out there. nothing tops the amount of tools and options available.
Custom feeds and lists are powerful indeed!
i tried even nuking reactions to purge 117K events but that doesn't seem to make it work either. i still had 126K events i think. But as soon as I nuke everything to start from scratch it just works.
@greenart7c3 is there anyway to fix this for large databases?
I think the database is getting locked when exporting the events. I'll see if I can fix it tomorrow.
There's another bug when importing the events from your account on nostr.band it downloads 3 million events instead of 300k sometimes
Does this problem happens on any client or just some of them?
Also can you test resetting the app in the android settings and selecting never auto backup when you open citrine again?
After that import a backup and try to use the app to see if it's the large db or its the backup that is locking the db while you are using it
Yes, I've seen the Nostr.band bug ๐คฃ Let me know if I can test anything. Thanks.
Will do.
FA ๐ค TA on Nostr โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โกโกโกโก 60%
This has no change. I applied the settings as you suggested and imported all events again and I am still unable to post to the relay.
Totally โ I think builders tend get into a zone and feel the need to ship while also thinking their product is โgood enough.โ Theyโre kind of rightโฆitโs good enough for maybe a new user who is something novel, and then thereโs loyalists, but most of the people are in the middleโฆtheyโll move on.
I agree, 85% is a good percentageโฆitโs like past MVP stage, where fixing bugs canโt take the backseat anymore
Now you write โ๏ธ Ser
For perspective, perplexity.ai raised over 900 million dollars and it fails 1/5 of the times I try to use it

I now use #notedeck on my mac almost daily. even though it lacks soooo many features, it is the fastest nostr app of them all. I wish more devs contribute to it.
noting bullish or bearish about nostr
use it or keep crying
Amethyst is a real beast, loving it
