I've never understood the nostr-only strategy (rather than a mainly-nostr one, since you can use other platforms to drive traffic to nostr), but I think X is sort of melting down into bots, spam, and idiots asking grok stupid questions.

Odell himself caused it, by making Primal a centralized service that isn’t really a Nostr client but a proprietary service that scrapes Nostr for data. I generally do not follow anyone using Primal, and urge them to immediately take their nsec to another client.

I believe this to simply be Metcalfe's law + necessity. so long as X is perceived as a “free speech” platform, it will be a long uphill battle for Nostr.

The only way centralization and protocol destruction will occur is better clients that are easy to onboard people to and people onboarding others but schisms will diminish adoption so erm well done all!

Will they? The largest phases of adoption had people basically not criticizing Primal at all. Full koolaid mode. Primal, despite soaking up all the capital, got a very lower user retention rate. It was primarily focused on turning Nostr into a Lightning-based zap microeconomy so that people receiving LN investments could pretend that LN adoption is healthy, and LN is generally a disaster that nobody likes to use. Amethyst is now the most popular client on Android, and given the fact that far fewer people have ever been onboarded to it, it likely has orders of magnitude greater retention rates. Letting Primal get away with its shit for so long with no public criticism has been to the general detriment of Nostr, and, to my eyes, hurt growth and adoption greatly.
Also, people like drama. It’s entertaining. Before all the conflict I would log on every day and see people jerking off about how great Saylor is (he’s a worthless subhuman jerkoff and I hope he gets raped to death) and I would logoff. It was only until people started calling out the scammers that I found Nostr worthwhile. Funny enough, that’s when Odell decides that Twitter is better suited for him. It’s certainly a better environment for him to grift.
