So here's the plan for selecting Bitcoin's new PoW algorithm:
Nobody knows the new algorithm right now, and nobody will until we all know at the same moment.
At 14:00 UTC August 11th, we will begin watching Bitcoin's Testnet4 chain for new blocks.
The very next block found, look at the block hash.
The last character will choose the new algorithm.
(Note that testnet4 blocks are typically timestamped wrong!)
As soon as I see that block, I will reveal the mapping showing which algorithm that character represents.
Throughout the last 24+ hours, the community has discussed and made a short list of candidate algorithms.
I compiled that list into a weighted (according to their suitability) set of options for the mapping list.
You can prove I didn't rig it, by SHA256 hashing the mapping text file.
It will match 71a7960874f3352f4ba600ce67bd6f8e96702565abea93021fa86349d99a45e8

Why do I want your coin? What do I do with my old coins?... explain it to me like am a 6 year old
Which PoW algoriths are the options?
keep all coins, if you liked Bitcoin pre Core v30 you may like the fork
you've lost the plot
You can keep both for years and decide eventually when things unfold.
I like this approach. Seems fair.
it's sugar to make the bitter pill taste good. they aren't going to give up and luke is not the one who is going to stick it to them.
Why do YOU get to choose at all?
Wait, what? Obviously you have your reasons to do it this way but wouldn't that give you perfect control to pick the winner? How much POW goes into Testnet4 blocks? Let's say you have a favorite out of 10 ... you only need to quickly find a block with a 10xTestnet difficulty. Can't be hard.
Why not use the Bitcoin blockchain? Testnet has zero security in its pathetic POW.
The post above describes a publicly randomized choice.
It's as secure as Testnet4's difficulty. He could have picked Dogecoin's chain to make it more secure.
Morals is why we are all leaving. We cant delude ourselves into believing btc can fend off attacks going forward.
It's in the discord
Except for the big issue of replay.
Hello Luke - I'm not trying to convince you not to go ahead with this, but personally I would rather stay on the current consensus.
Are you planning to make Knots 29.3 the last non-RDTS client? I think that would be a shame, there are a number of us who have such a preference and would like a upgrade path in the future.
Best of luck in your future endeavours even if they lead you off Bitcoin.
/ DM
You can add large op return on the bCore UTXO. Serves like a de facto replay protection, no?
I think if you really wish to find issues with the proposal, you can always find some. Most devs would probably simply select one based on “technical merits” and go with it. After all he’s the one who will have to build the implementation after that.
#ThingsSatoshiDid
You mean bitcoin?
Technically, yes that would absolutely work. But harder in practice considering very few wallets support it. I don't care about Luke's coin. Was just pointing out that for most people, keeping both coins has some important caveats.
You can call it Bitcoin, I call it bCore.
I just found out there are expiration dates on the Knots versions. It’s really going to suck having to go back to Core if there isn’t a non-RDTS upgrade path for Knots users and I don’t see any other new implementations coming online anytime soon?
I wish you luck, and I hope I’m wrong about your likelihood of success.
I don’t think this fork will end well.
After the BIP-110 failure (predominantly due to miner centralization IMO), I switched from BIP-110 to an old version of Knots. My focus is now on what we can do as a community to fix miner centralization on the main chain.
I guess you’ve reached the conclusion that firing the miners is the right solution, but you will likely only have a small subset of the BIP-110 supporters (who were only about 15% of Bitcoiners) following you. That might be as small as 1% or 2% of Bitcoiners, and that’s probably not going to have enough critical mass to compete.
When Bitcoin started, it had no juggernaut to compete with in the space. So it would be naive to see this fork as starting over in a purer way. It will need to compete with the main chain of BTC that all the suitcoiners, influencers, centralized exchanges, VCs, miners and normies support. It will also need to compete with cryptos like Monero and Ethereum.
I am using VPN and discord blocks that access. I will try other ways too though.
What problem is this supposed to solve?
This actually seems like a good way to do it
Luke's actions show he is freedom maximalist.
Some bad actors call him dictator as part of their propaganda. Its nice how they reveal themselves. Mark them and don't forget them.
It solves my and ohter peoples problem.
why not setting a fixed block height instead of the tampering timestamp.
who is following this crazy person?

just to make clear I don't mean you npub1t4df6nekwwjwrzf7g90vkrch3hcwl26jyurqru8ndkwtv3lv98js6qsdf4 brother, I mean the ones who smear Luke
I also think that it would be good for Bitcoiners to have decent option of running a node with filters that keep mempools clean.
You were always going to do this, you lied like the liar you are. Go ahead and fork off and blow the last shred of creditability you had.
Will Ocean throw away their SHA256 ASICs now?
I have to admit, this is really entertaining. Hopefully you don't fuck over too many of your cult followers.
Why can't we do both things? Fork of and try to fix miner centralization?
We should have multiple plans, "they" do.
Watch how many people here attack 1% or 2% also.
When they start censoring transactions later, that's when many eyes will turn to the other chains.
my brother you have lost the plot
1.) what
Are you hoping exchanges will list this coin so you can dump bip-110 on your cult followers?
Wtf are you talking about
Listen to Jack, he was into Bitcoin before Scotty Pippen😆
As though it matters?
It's happening!!!
Seems I have to learn how to mine!
LFG
Holy shit, you’re as much of a blistering retard as Carvalho.
You are deciding the future of your Bitcoin fork in a Discord? That's how I know you aren't serious about separating money from the state. You're a LARPer who thinks anyone who doesn't follow every one of the state's laws 100% of the time is a "sinner".
Based on the logic of your weird combo of statism and puritanical Catholicism, Rosa Parks is currently burning in hell because she didn't ask for forgiveness for her civil disobedience.
So glad you are no longer involved in real Bitcoin development. Have fun with your new coin.
I'm not going to try to convince you to want bitcoins. I'm just going to make Bitcoin so valuable that you decide you want it on your own.
Go hard mate. love how much you’re triggering 😂
“If you don’t like it, fork off!”.. at the same time, “Why are you doing this? You’re a nut job, you’ve lost the plot, blah blah blah”
Sad.
Bro are you serious here, honest to God. Either you are not just on some sort of rage coding because you screwed up and got canned or you need some actual help. What ever you make with your fork will no be Bitcoin, you have to know that. At least I hope you do.
Why not just remove the witness discount? That would be a solution that addresses the situation at its core.
Blake2b. Goldshell and Ibelink are the two I've found that make modern ASICS. Antminer A3 might work as well, but is older and power hungry. I've heard of Goldshell, but not Ibelink. I ordered three of the Goldshells. I'll try and make a post if I test them out when they arrive in a few days.
Its the same algo as Siacoin (a shitcoin that ironically is for file storage. Unlike corecoin, they pay their node runners in sia for the space they take up on nodes lol)
Whether whatever he just said technically makes sense or not, it just comes across as schizophrenic.

What are your chances of success with this?
Yeah, I kind of echo what others are saying here
why Discord ?
why a different algorithm and how can you be 100% sure it's truly random ?
Fare thee well.
- Andy S.
It's not important that it be truly random, only that nobody got advance notice of it
Why is that Luke ?
🎯
this is exactly how the solana devs would gather everyone to fix consensus failures which they would have all the time. they would go in discord and dictate to everyone what the new consensus rules would be and how to upgrade to a different client.
A starting pistol or a bell, as long as everybody hears it at the same time?
Makes sense I guess
We have bitcoin. We don't need your shitcoin fork, no matter how many times you call it bitcoin. You need help.
testnet4 as the randomness oracle was always the weak spot. anyone with a few gpus could grind the last character. the pre-committed hash was the only solid part of this
😂😂
What if the new PoW algorithm is also quantum resistant? Is it possible? If so, it would also be a super strong narrative.
Old one is also quantum resistant.
Seems sketchy
Removes the miners from the chain so whoever already owns the right hardware already gets their bags pumped.
For the moment there is no need to leave Bitcoin. The new chain is alternative that will chug along in parallel, small, tiny, almost invisible. But it will be there and in my opinion with better DNA. Similar to how Bitcoin Knots was there for a decade with less than 1% of nodes usage. But in a critical moment it played the role it was designed to play.
I am reading as well about ways to mine it. Looking into xmrig with -a blake2b option.
Once Luke has led the last of the decent people away from Bitcoin and rugged them.
I hope everyone that got involved in Bitcoin for the right reasons can wake up and see that the capture didn't start with core30.
Bitcoin has been captured for years.
Accept it, you can't fork your way out.
Move to one of the other existing chains that hasn't been captured.
What type of retard are you, bsv, bch, other?
Not a cultist like you.
Money is a tool, not something to be worshipped.
Maxis are the worst shitcoiners of all.
Meant to reply to luke sorry
What an opportunity for new content creators that can do tutorials on how this will all get set up. What wallets/clients to use, how to mine, what hardware/software, pooling mining set ups, how to mix/not mix coins between Corecoin and Bitcoin, node set up with/without start9, ect. I hope people like Paul Lamb will come help with that. Or maybe we see a whole new group.
