I’m gonna be on stage at the conference sort of representing nostr users. I have my own thoughts, but as an average nostr user what’s important to you about nostr? What do you get out of being here? What keeps you coming back?

Everyone complains about big tech censorship. Nostr empowers you to do something about it rather than complaining on the platforms they own. - "Be the change you want to see in the world"
It’s people being people, with no manipulative algorithms or third parties trying to control what we see or say. My feed is just the people I follow and since it’s chronological I mostly see whatever is currently being discussed, instead of being dragged back into issues/topics that some algorithm decides I should see. It feels like a network of humans existing in the moment sharing what’s important to each of us. Zaps are pretty f’ing cool too. 💜

The direct interactions and responses. Beeing able to zap and getting zapped is a very different experience to only likes. Generally a welcoming community

good notes! plebs gr8 days
For me personally: -Nostr is credibly decentralized and permissionless, with users controlling their own identities, without too much trade-off. Actually usable, bootstrapping, and here. -Currently and in the future, users can choose their discovery algorithms, either by exercising choice over which client to use, or eventually toward a marketplace of algorithms available to a client that makes that happen. Nearly endless options for those that want it to happen. -Nostr's social graph makes my Lightning wallets genuinely better. It gives them venmo-like social discoverability. -The fact that it's a smaller community is currently an upside for me. I genuinely enjoy posting here. It gives me a place to vent about things or tell random mid-length stories that don't make sense to broadcast to 690k twitter followers or write a blog post about.

I feel like I am building capital that will last and is mine on Nostr Nostr offers the satisfaction of and fulfilment of gardening, sculpting, or working for yourself, as opposed to working for others

STAY HUMBLE AND STACK ZAPS
I used to enjoy sharing news on social media. People started following me sharing news about Bitcoin on Google+. I wake up one morning and boom 💥 image Immediately blocked from connecting with the 130k people that had started following my posts. All because Google suddenly didn't like Bitcoin during the adpocalypse. If a nostr client or relay tries to shut you up then you just move to another or even better run your own to ensure no one can stop you from communicating.

Thefact i can own my data and have the ability to say whatever i think, freedom. Just like the bitcoin content but obviously it can be any type of content. I also like the fact that its not addictive, i wont lose hours of my life scrolling. I get to consume content iwant to watch

The freedom, and the vibes. The freedom vibes.
Ability to have pseudonymous and therefore multiple and/or disposable identities. This makes using nostr much safer than using deep state enmeshed platforms. And is generally safer to keep your real identity private from the entire planet. And when everyone decides to suddenly call themselves Dan it makes things less confusing.

I loved seeing it be develpoed over these couple years, warts and all. Just feels like you happened upon some hard working Amish like town where everyone was pitching in and making shit happen. Just very bottom up!
Nostr accounts integrating as an oauth mechanism for games and other apps. (like @npub1wz8v...4qjt) And our parents aren't using it yet, so it's still cool.
The early Twitter vibes. It feels like a a communication tool where real people are talking, no ads/bots, posting just for engagement
What’s important for me as a content creator is better usability - uploading files, especially video clips is a bitch still… creators have to “work” harder here than on any other platform to get their content across.
that some technical illiterate dude like you can upload a 4.1 mb animated gif as a profile pic. pure awesomeness!
The zaps: I fucking love the zaps. Literally get to shitpost memes I find funny and people fling sats at me. It would be like if I was telling jokes on the corner and people would toss me quarters. It is the digital version of that
I feel free. There is nobody that can censor my speech or my monetary transactions. Nostr is a fresh breath in an otherwise orwellian world of social media. Also, as a developer, nostr makes it easy to help build tools to fight tyranny.

Nostr is incredibly revealing. People who claim they want transparency and free speech yet cling to closed centralized platforms, WE SEE YOU.
I really enjoy the vibe here, and I don't feel like I'm being manipulated by a corporate algorithm. But the main thing is that I want to be contributing to a system that I believe in. Decentralized networking FTW 💜
I'm a COMPLETE newbie -- just managed to get signed up today. So I don't fully know yet. But what brought me here was the value of something platform/app-independent, and of owning my own content.
In fairness, after probably 8 hours of attempts to get set up with Nostr, I almost gave up. As much as we hate censorship, there's something to be said for the closed centralized platform you can *get to work* over the decentralized protocol you can't.

To change the whole Internet experience for the better again. Start a google search zu find any AI Software... It got so bad. You end up finding a million subscriptions for shit Software. but the one amazing free Software ist hidden.
Currently, it is more like exploring another country with a different culture but people I know and like to be with. It makes me feel like this might be a place I would like to live.

Zaps man. The possibility of your input being actually valued by other humans is amazing. Similarly showing that appreciation back is wonderful ⚡️
I think the best things I get out of using at this point relatively buggy, slow, user-hostile ecosystem like Nostr are: 1) Feeling of freedom. Not walking on eggshells and being afraid of shadow-bans or deplatforming. 2) Feeling I am on fertile ground which is already producing a lot of growth, not just platform owned by one team and dependent on right and wrong decisions of aforementioned team (like Facebook, X and other old school corporate social platforms). When I use Nostr, I feel like I'm following the wisdom of «skating to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been».
After joining Nostr, I just followed a bunch of accounts like nobody's business. Cause I felt like it. No twitter jail, no "re-verify your account", no captcha hell.
Nostr's all about radical free speech, decentralization, and owning your data—no Big Brother watching. That's why we keep coming back.
The best part of #Nostr is that unlike #Clubhouse and #X Spaces, I don't get "You Dumb B*tch" yelled every 5 seconds and people screaming incomplete sentences at each other constantly. I don't know how people are able to tolerate mainstream social media anymore. View quoted note → cc: @HODL you know what I mean ;)

No algo is important to me. I think algos distort reality
Not feeling like a closed-source algorithm is attempting to influence my thoughts is definitely nice. I enjoy the ability to transition between clients while maintaining my follow and follower list, regardless of the type of user experience I prefer (e.g., Amethyst). The ability to send real money to anyone who has a lightning address, without knowing who they are, their location, or asking anyone for permission, is amazing. Nostr is amazing, and I can't wait to see what its future brings.
People I follow can't get banned I can't get banned No posts can be censored There is no algorithm that tries to outrage me so I stay longer on the app

Nostr brings out the best in people. I’ve noticed a considerable change in your tone and toxicity. Could be fatherhood, but it’s a trend I’ve noticed with most users here. Anytime I check Reddit or Twitter, I am reminded that doom scrolling is not helpful to society.

#nostr feels fresh because it’s a baby. How long will it last? I post distilled thoughts that I matured on TwitteX, as if TwitteX was the database and the incubator of my thoughts.

nostr is the cure for nihilism
The near complete lack of algorithm forces you to add and remove people from your social sphere actively. Putting full responsibility of managing the info you consume in your own hands. If I see shit on nostr that I would prefer not to, well that is on me, gotta make better choices of which voices I listen to in future.
zaps, freedom, npubs cross platform, chronological, no data theft, no ownership of other's content by proprietary terms, open source, decentralized, fun, no better solution...

I like that I can say whatever I want and I can’t get booted. Btc is “fuck you money” nostr is “fuck you vommunication”. Not for the snowflakes tho. Also it’s nice you have your own key and can’t get hacked easily
Contingency and redundancy of a % of my online Bitcoin connections if/when they tighten the vise-grip on Twitter and other social media sites… The knowledge/hive mind network of Bitcoin users online is a huge positive for the Bitcoin network… I want to stay tapped into and engaged with that

I like being able to talk about our Zionist Occupied Government without worrying about being killed and censored by Jews.
Content not tied to a domain/service and uncensorable. Being unruggable, like with bitcoin in cold storage.
Those of us who code can build whatever they want. We do not beg to companies to add stuff we want and then wait for it to never happen. We just do it. Still the most mind blowing thing to build on an open protocol with some of the most brilliant people in the space.

The community. It's a pandora's box, but if you dig a little, there's so much open and welcoming plebs all helping each other. The tech. It's the first of its kind in this age. Permisionless, uncensorable social media. Zaps. Cmon, how cool is that.
I enjoy the users. Nostr reminds me of the early days of Bitcoin. People building freedom things without permission. Also I got very tired of other social medias and covid censorship/election censorship was the final straw. Remaining addiction is twitter and I hope Nostr is a healthier version of that. The tools around nostr keys need to improve because the insecure apps and attacks are coming when this gets bigger. The potential of Nostr is huge and way beyond the scope of social media which is exciting. Enjoy the conference. Be sure to wear a suit if you want to fit in!
I like zapping and getting zapped and #Apple should let Damus turn it back on again! Now using a workaround of zapplepay.com No censorship Memes & Signal
I'm only here for the Zaps and the ownership of your identity - no email, no password. That's pretty much it. Nothing groundbreaking when it comes to Privacy with Nostr, really. I mean, still gotta use Tor or some VPN. Similar to 'mega instances' in the Fediverse, 3-4 Mega Relays control the network - at least that's how it stands at the moment. >Relays have all your data in raw text. They know your IP, your name, your location (guessed from IP), your pub key, all your contacts, and other relays, and can read every action you do (post, like, boost, quote, report, etc) with the exception of Private Zaps and Private DMs Source: image
