People seems to be enjoying the lack of Knots propaganda here so I'll commit to making more effort and getting out of the twitter echo chamber.

Ok. Hit me. Is this true?

Please don't bring this boring discussion here !
I'm doing my part here ser
Yes, please, you won the argument, now let's focus on the future ๐ซก
This is their same stupid argument! They keep saying this. It is red herring. It focuses on another issue that has nothing to do with op_return.

In the abstract he is right, in practice it is irrelevant here is why:
With the current 80 byte you cannot get any image, illicit or otherwise, relayed around the network's mempools. Because of this it will reach miner. Therefore your have to use a service such as Slipstream to get attempt the miner yo include it directly. The miners offering this are publicly traded entities. They will review the content that you are attempting to upload to the chain since they are liable for enabling its transmission. If the content is illicit they will obviously stop any upload (and hopefully report you). At that point your are effectively out of options other than trying to mine a block yourself, which is effectively impossible of course.
So yes any transaction included in a mined block is transmitted around the network. But in practice the worst type of illegal content is just about being kept out by the current filters and set of incentives. It seems obvious therefore that it would be a grave mistake to mess around with this delicate balance by removing existing filters.
Bravo!! ๐ซกโ๏ธ
Yes that's exactly my whole problem with removing or messing around with filters and also with moving the 80byte to 100kb.
I don't know if I've ever seen a pro-core argument posted on nostr
Apparently this PortlandHODL guy runs Slipstream for $MARA.
Portland has stolen data from Comast as has been bragging on a Twitter SPACE about DDOS attacking Knots runners. The CEO of $MARA was in attendance and laughing.
So, looks like the CEO of $MARA is not so concerned about crime, about stealing data from an ISP and using the data to disrupt people's internet / run up their ISP bills.
Local law enforcement should look into this. Does Comcast know about this ?
Sounds like an issue for the SEC, CFTC and FBI. It's all public on Twitter.
Lopp is already known for his false narrative.

Both sides are digging their heels in primarily as a response to the insults of the other side, without much consideration for the issues actually at stake. Calle said last night that there have been death threats.
You guys need to have a public discussion. Not a debate. No Peter Todd - I don't think he'll stay civil.
Like it or not, you devs are leaders. If you speak to each other childishly (I'm not accusing you), the plebs in the trenches will amplify that. So I think you need to reach out to someone who is level headed and plan a public discussion, and go slow (I don't care if it takes an hour or a week) and address all misconceptions on either side.
Just my 2 sats.
Thats the thing, Core are not the leaders. Core will hopefully fade to irrelevance.
I'm not saying they are. Its just that each of us can only do what we can do. A leader doesn't have to be an authority to be a leader. But if you're a leader, regardless of authority, you need to put your best foot forward.
Basically, this is correct. As long as you want your node to serve as a source of truth for the blockchain, once data gets in it, you can't really get rid of it. That is, after a node has verified each block, it could conceivably prune all the op_return data, for example; but then, the node would be useless for anyone else to subsequently download a block and verify it for themselves.
This is, of course, a strawman argument. Virtually no one argues that node policy filters make it impossible for undesirable data to make it into the blockchain; but filters that are practically ubiquitous (at least until Core 30 goes live) do obviously hinder it - requiring, as of yet, non-standard measures to evade.
A consensus rules 'filter' could potentially be a different story - but that would likely come with opening a Pandora's box that I doubt there's much, if any, serious appetite for.
On the plus side, Iโve been enjoying watching some of the techno-influencoors burn bridges.
Their own pride will always be defeated. Either by their repentance, or by their own arrogance.
This argument conflates two separate issues:
1. Relaying unconfirmed transactions
2. Relaying blocks validated by your node.
The first is something you should be able to control and filter as a node runner.
The second you cannot control if you want to be a part of the current network as a node runner.
Saying "filters don't work" is saying you shouldn't control what UNCONFIRMED transaction your node propagates because some other node might send it along to a miner and eventually get included into a block which you HAVE to relay to be part of the network.
Filtering txns makes it less likely that a spam transaction makes it into a block though obviously not impossible.
A brush fire may have been needed. IMO it's best to keep brush fires contained.
There are no leaders in Bitcoin.
A little burn is always good for the soil. Keeps us humble.
A bit more humility is exactly what we need
Excellent. You can't hide from my replies on nostr ๐
Sounds like the kind of thing the SEC, CFTC, and FBI get paychecks to cover up lol

Yup. The levels of deception are crazy. Iโm starting to think he is a jew
Idk what jews have to do with it, but all of this seems like a psy op to distract from Gaza
Whatโs gross about it?
Calle lies like a fish swims.

Can we perhaps stop all this, and come to an agreement of being more cautious/safe with implementing changes? What about increasing the size by "just" doubling it to 160 bytes and see what happens?
from 80 to 100'000 seems excessive to many, let's be cautious, we are talking about The monetary protocol....
I'm simply asking to stop for a second and reconsider togehter here, as this change never had a smooth moment: no full support within core devs community, no full support within the broader btc community, 20% of the nodes switching to knots.
Clearly there was and there is not enough support for this change. Please have a talk with other core devs to reconsider, it would only make you gain trust and respect
Twitter is death, #nostronly
My trust in you is broken.
