Damus can keep the zap button on the profile but not notes. It is considered “selling digital content” if its on notes 😕

That’s an attack on Nostr, because no one is so stupid to think zaps on notes are “selling digital content” 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️
The work around, which what we did is when you click the zap button just drive to the creators profile - then initiate the zap
Checking the vibe. What are people gonna do? Stick with Damus? Move to plebstr (what are the other iOS app options? 🤔). Are plebstr gonna be affected too? 🤔 View quoted note →
Would be a quick stopgap. I’m curious how Subscriber Tweets are any different. Aren’t you technically paying to view that content? I understand that’s not a single transaction but it’s the same outcome.
Not sure, but a mini profile that pops up but keeps my spot in the feed would be good. Maybe the pop up profile is greyed out with one random button made orange purely for design and aesthetic reasons?
Not sure; but maybe something could be done in code either to block the scroll if drawing is detected or if there’s a library o something to allow that. 😬

Can they explain how there was an exchange of goods or services? From my understanding Ive been making donations this entire time as I havent recieved any product or service in exchange.
So what's the definition of a tip then? Selling implies people zapping are buying something they otherwise wouldn't get, but the content is already there, it's free. You're not buying it, you're just tipping because you like the content, it's not a paywall.
Disagree… seems like the issue is that post zapping just makes it too easy if they are ok with profile zapping. If you repurposed the zap button to act like a profile zap would they be ok with that? Do they really just want you to press 2 extra buttons to accomplish the same thing? Makes no sense. What if you put a profile zap button next to the user’s picture/name above the note?

Okay. Add a small button on each post that directs the user to the OP’s profile page and also automatically opens the tipping interface. This will make zapping a two-tap process rather than a single tap.
What I hate about this is that they had this prepared for weeks, probably showed up to the meeting with an army of lawyers and gave you 24 hours between kicking Damus and offering to talk. You should have been given time to assemble a team, get legal advice and prepare adequately before stepping into the ring with them 🥊 ⚡⚡⚡
It's frustrating how much people are willing to accept these walled gardens with mobile and tablet devices, after successfully defending against them on desktop. Where is the pushback? Net Neutrality concerns have trended at least two or three times in the past, where for days at a time it was all anyone on the Internet was talking about, and it included massive 'blackouts' of high profile websites to raise attention to the issue. Nobody seems to care very much about these app store walled gardens, even though it's a far bigger problem.
Makes zero fucking sense, but so does the logic coming from Crapple users constantly justifying their bullshit. Will included.
I think there might be room to be creative — for example with the positioning of the zap button. There also may be some ways to determine the visibility or positioning of the zap button based on the content in the note. In other words, If they are ok with two taps to get to the user’s profile to zap, what else might they be ok with?
I want to zap a note I copy the note ID I go to the creator’s profile I click zap I paste note ID in the zap’s comment
That was a fast decision! So... could the the zap button be a 'visit zap button' button? If so, it might 'remember' the original note.. #zapvertising then just moves to the profile page, on Damus / iPhone apps at least.
If that’s true then we should be able to profile zap you by one-tapping your name above the note. Perhaps you lose the zap tracking at the note level but retain one tap zapping
What if you have a Zap Profile button, and tell apple you’re gonna place that button in multiple places in the app. Might even show up next to a note, who knows? 🤷🏻‍♂️
It’s a donation for content? I could see this being true if he had implemented the blur hash/paywall into Damus that requires a zap to see content, but that isn’t how onlyzaps works at all. I am not selling my content, I’m posting it and it is free to consume, and individuals are willingly donating to me because I’ve provided them value.
Up to @jb55 but I would suggest having a simplified version of your profile(without any notes) with a button to zap that simplified profile 😁 Btw I love that a bunch of people is interested in fixing this issue, great support. 😍
Can you make the zap icon next to my name for only zaps, a profile donation link? This way I can keep onlyzaps on and people can click the icon for my profile that goes to zap my profile instead of the note itself? Ie- we lose tracking of zaps on notes but not the ability to one tap zap content we find valuable?
This is testing the arbitrary boundaries of adding friction until the not well defined border of acceptable zap location and unacceptable zap location. 📝
that's a stretch. the note is free. the zap is optional. normally selling something means it's not available for free.

I don’t get how it’s “selling content” if the zaps are 1000% voluntary
Yes, these are just mockups. No one has this functionality yet. Damus team will discuss what is the best approach. Enjoy zapping notes for the next 13.5 days 😅
Pour info c'est bientôt fini la monétisation gratuite sur ces apps tous ces influenceurs vont devoir payer à la case taxation sur des revenus émanant de ces apps

Indeed... taxing donations doesnt have a precedent.
By forcing us under threat of violent coercion using crooks they managed to bribe in office. Mystify to one another what we pay each other for, so that they can charge a superfluous charge for doing nothing? They ARE SO clear about their clear dependence on a fading monopoly of power to dominate others violently.
The worst publicity is - no publicity. This action by Tim Apple has completely backfired. Add Elon Musk into the mix and the Damus app recognition gets SuperBowl like advertising... and it didn't cost a cent/sat. image

Seems like an attack on speech 🤔 What, we can tip profiles but can’t tip words directly? What’s the difference between this and people just saying “selling X, zap profile to get it”?
They’re full of shit and they know it! From the wikis: Digital content is any content that exists in the form of digital data. Digital content is stored on digital media or analog storage in specific formats. Forms of digital content include information that is digitally broadcast, streamed, or contained in computer files. Viewed narrowly, digital content includes popular media types, while a broader approach considers any type of digital information (e. g. digitally updated weather forecasts, GPS maps, and so on) as digital content.

They are afraid because the power of freedom of speech + freedom of transactions are fucking with their control.

Just give us your lightning address and we’ll zap you 30% 😆 This might be how we flip Apple to zaps ⚡️

They want our bitcoin 🤣🤣 But honestly i think it has hand of the state behind the scene’s more than hand of apple wanting that irrelevant amount of money considering the amount of money they have in cash 🏴‍☠️

It’s most likely just an underpaid reviewer making a quick decision than anything else. Apple doesn’t care about any of this.

It’s because of that that I think it has hands of the state behind trying to figure out how they gonna tax transactions here. Apple are to big to be concerned about this like you said.
What if I never upgrade my Damus app and keep the zap button forever?
What a weird rule, so if I like your content then I can click your. Profile and zap you, but I can't skip the 1 tap to just zap a note?
It’s pretty dumb and makes the UX janky af. Its a petty move by apple to discourage non-apple-pay solutions. You can’t even do micropayments of that size with visa, so it makes no sense. They should change their policy.
What if you could click the zap icon after your profile name. Makes it obvious you are zapping the profile, not the note, and also you could still maintain the one-tap-zap in the timeline 🤔
I wonder if having a zap button on the comment that is a client side redirect to the profile would work? That way no one could tell what note is being zapped, the user would just see the funds in their wallet.
You could even keep the UI/UX element of it, just change the placement and remove the zaps tab. image

If you have the content before the payment and without the payment, you didn’t buy it.

Looking forward to dumping Apple.
As a graphene user I was inclined to agree at first, but that logic could apply to almost anything in modern life. While I wouldn't *expect* fair treatment from apple, I would support any attempt at providing them a way to bitcoin and nostr. Fuck apple, and fuck the dollar, its the users we are trying to save.

I was searching for info about it i saw it some years ago..dow does it work on a daily usage phone (or you have it on a secondary one ?) Now since i have this phone for almost 3 years i'm dig-ing to info about it. I mean it could be the nicest upgrade to a new phone
I use it as my daily driver. I held on to two phones for a while, eventually I had the service disconnected on the non-graphene phone, and now its been so long I don't even know where it is anymore. It works just like android as far as user experience goes, but it will require you to use a google pixel as a phone.
Soooo, the camera app that comes by default has the nice feature of not recording metadata, so that's pretty cool. The google camera app (from what I hear) is better, but I haven't had any issues with the default app and I can't say I've noticed a difference. I'm not doing any fine photography or taking a lot of pictures though, I couldn't break down the finer details.

Isn’t it a donation? It’s completely optional lol ??
That's perfect! I think you could also side load the google pixel cam using gcam ports. You should give it a try. Should be of same quality with stock camera i think.

damus is not needed on nostr imo, Use web-apps
