The IRS just created a new crypto audit form designed to make you incriminate yourself. They're sending a new "Historical Digital Asset Form" that lists 100+ exchanges and self-custody wallets: Coinbase, Binance, Kraken, FTX, Mt. Gox, MetaMask, Ledger, Trezor, and demands you check YES or NO for every single one. Then sign it under penalty of perjury. This isn't a tax form. It's a mapping exercise. They don't just want to know what you traded last year. They want a complete picture of everywhere your crypto has ever touched going back years. The catch: there's no right way to fill it out. Forget a platform you used once in 2017? That's perjury. Disclose everything? You just gave them a roadmap for new lines of inquiry. Don't respond? They'll issue a summons. This is coming alongside Form 1099-DA, which means exchanges are now reporting directly to the IRS. They're cross-referencing what they already know with what you tell them, and looking for gaps. If you get this form, do not fill it out without a tax attorney. This is exactly the kind of overreach that pushes people toward self-custody and privacy-preserving tools like Bitcoin. The government doesn't send forms like this to help you. They send them to build a case. image

Are we ever going to all collectively decide we aren’t okay with this? It’s the prisoner’s dilemma at a massive scale.

Show the remaining pages. You sign this under threat of perjury.
A family friend told me that if I wanted to get rid of the IRS I “better start supporting Trump.” This is exactly why I pretty much just laughed.

This also doesn't look new. Looks like it is a few years old based off the date?

@TFTC did you receive the digital version of this? Is it vetted and confirmed?

Who in their right fucking mind would add a single letter to the "Comments" field?!

Pardon my skepticism. They “just” created that form? It looks like my grandma got creative with a spreadsheet then made a photocopy of a photocopy. Link to the gov publication pls? All I could find are a couple of shady crypto “ news” sites that mention this story but don’t link to any official info.
I will fork the #feather wallet, rename it, compile it, and voilà! My wallet's name will never appear in the list!
I don't believe this form is real. You do not have to give your username or email to the IRS. That form shows activity through 12/2023. Wtf is going on here?

Still skeptical. Every IRS form and worksheet is numbered and published online. The OP says it accompanies the the1099-DA. No mention of this supposed worksheet in the 10-page instructions.
Fuck that! Learn your lesson from France, where people who filled that out are now getting hit at home by criminals and tortured until they hand over their wallets. This is an intelligence test. Don't fail it.

View quoted note →
