Ingenious use for nostr, blossom, self-hosting, and DVMs. My mind is officially blown. Well done @novia π
Incredible indeed πππ
This looks like some awesome Shit at the hands of @novia π€©π€©π€©
BRAVO!!
Decentralized media is gonna be HUGE!π€β‘οΈ
If the archive can get zapped for βrecoveryβ it is on like donkey Kong
Can someone explain this to me lol. What am I looking at here? π I'm sure it's exciting if you understand lol
Self host content mirroring and serve to others.
"incredible" ? trash version of what I described here
was this even any easier to build than a torrent-based version, or was there actually extra effort spent to make it into trash?

π΅πΈ whoever loves Digit
I hope someday nostr will kill YouTube with simple piracy π΄ββ οΈ Just decentralize hosting, indexing, and searching of YouTube
Does novia replace peerTube?

Yuck, Primal gave me a DNS link instead of an embed code.
Here's the nevent linked properly

Is this similar to peertube? I barely even know what that is.
I'll just assume it's exciting, I'm too thick for this lol
Why donβt we have a nostr popcorn time service yet
No that still wasn't it wtf? my bad
This might do it View quoted note β
I run a peertube instance. peertube is closer to mastodon/pleroma. people wanted the option to "seed" peertube videos using a bittorrent seedbox or their home computer, but the feature was poorly supported and later removed. peertube videos typically live on a VPS or any block storage that is connected to it, and HLS-P2P can optionally reduce the server load by fetching part of the video from other people who happen to be playing it, but it's not as fancy as this new thing.
@novia ππΏ #shoutout
good analogy.
Wow ππ
This is it

Saw the news that the rumble ceo wants to integrate btc zaps into the platform. Wonder if we can all spam him into just turning it into a nostr relay π€
(self hosting is obviously ideal but I bet the entry a big player like that in the video hosting space would at least make the process smoother for those less tech savvy)

Interesting. #Nostr is the future.
Is it different from Napster in that the source and target IP are not traceable?
Yay π₯³
Have you tested yet ?
Are you telling me that itβs the Other Stuff time for real?!?
The hard pressing question is: why is it called girlfriend?
Maybe this is the answer we have been looking for all alongπ€
Youtube content was made on a strategy of many incentives and broad promotion via Google Search and Chrome and cookies. And that will be impossible to replicate. But it could spark a new types of art, education and entertainment. Or recycle some, as podcasts nicely recycled old radio formats. π€ I find the most useful informative and educative videos on Youtube having between 2.000 to 50.000 views. And those doesnβt make that much money I guess, so technically these creators can move with no problem since Youtubeβs new strategy is to avoid monetization of the small creators. But still the algo gives them a good chance to get a lot of traffic if they work their ass off. So the promise is there.
So does the person who posted need to approve the recovery request? @novia
Similar to what IPFS can do. I've always wished that we could tap into that.
Thrilled to observe the #nostr development

Currently there is no approval. The video get's posted by the archive service (under it's npub) and it needs to be online to fulfill the recovery request.
We are currently experimenting with mirroring the videos between different novia instances, so other can fulfill the request as well.
For all of this to work properly we need to integrate payments for people to be incentivised to host videos.
IPFS has the problem that tries to build a global directory / global state - which does not scale. The blossom servers are much simpler and we can just use NOSTR as a discovery network.
As soon as we have payments for hosting, people will hopefully host more storage services.
Maybe ... let's find out. We have some ways to go, though.
You all get girlfriends now π€£
We rely on blossom servers for storage, i.e. those servers could trace the IP of the uploader. It is recommended to use a VPN for uploading.
But you are right - since the request for a video can be sent to a NOSTR relay anonymously, it's harder to trace IPs.
That's the plan.
Thanks for the mention @Gigi π
It's a lot of different uses that's what makes it a bit confusing:
1. People download their favourite videos to have a self sovereign archive on their hard drives.
2. They can offer their archives to others (published on NOSTR)
3. Since it's would be costly to host all those videos online, people can request videos on demand.
We still have a lot to figure out, though π

Reminiscent of bit torrent
Dude this is sooo cool!!
Peertube and mastodon/activitypub in general depend way too much on domains
This seems relevant. Haven't explored it though

i know right?
Is it just me, or is calling it "girlfriend" in Spanish just asking for trouble?
Videos aren't stored on relays. They are stored on #Blossom or similar.
This is incredible.

Is this something that could be attacked the same way as The Pirate Bay or Napstr?
I love this idea!!
What is blossom ? For the noob ! π
Richtig nice LFG
