That is a dog tick, it has white stripe on either side of its back. The wood tick looks like he has a little cream western sports oat behind his head. The deer tick is redish brown with a black spot behind his head, and is generally smaller and is almost transparent on its hind. If you do have deer ticks, they say to have doxycycline on hand. your doctor can prescribe it for you so you can take 2 whenever you get bit by an actual deer tick.

Some times of year, we get an actual deer tick bite several times a week. When the wood ticks come out we breathe a sigh of relief because they seem to croud out the deer ticks. Also fortunately for us, our neighbors chickens cluck over and clean out most of the ticks from our woods

I’ve had Lyme disease before. Would not recommend it… luckily this tick isn’t a deer tick. Unfortunately, you often never find the deer ticks that give you Lyme because they’re insanely small… fuckers.
