One of the best answers I ever heard about #Bitcoin was someone who asked a hardcore bitcoiner, “You only talk about all of these great benefits, but what is the worst thing about Bitcoin?”
His answer was, “It’s going to grant all those same freedoms and benefits to the person who you hate most in the world. And there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Ironically, that’s what most people can’t give up. They can’t let go of the statist temptation of arbitrarily punishing people they don’t like, or are afraid of. View quoted note →

Everyone I hate is _objectively_ bad though
To be fair, it would be better to use Monero. It doesn't really work for zaps, because it's too slow, but other than that, it is much more private than bitcoin and is actually fungible on L1
The less that are oppressed by fiat, the better. It may even be the root cause between enemies.
Well that, and religion. Which I also could see eventually fading away as we move to a more transparent and verifiable standard (no offense to those that believe).
In my small little sample world, I’ve noticed there are those who use the rules to their advantage, those who use the grey areas to their advantage and those that do neither because they don’t bother to understand the rules.
Its extremely uncomfortable... I won't be teaching any bankers or other criminals how to bitcoin. Let them figure it out last.
Liberal here 🙋♂️… been called a statist plenty of times.
What you describe is what I like about Bitcoin and nostr, too. Protocols should be application (and content) agnostic.
And yet if I had a Satoshi for every time someone has told me, in so many words, “Bitcoin isn’t FOR you, lib” … seems like there are still plenty in the space who don’t grasp what you just articulated.
Kinda depends on what "liberal" means. If modern liberals were as they were in the 90's, I'd be one of them. That's not even all the way back to classic liberal, but close enough. Modern liberals, though, are not critical thinkers, and their efforts have destroyed too many lives.
The best we can do is empower as many people as possible to resist those who seek to do harm.
This is very similar to the freedom of speech argument. (I may not like what you say, but I will defend your right to say it.)
That's a powerful perspective! The essence of #Bitcoin lies in its neutrality, offering freedom and control to everyone, even to those we may strongly disagree with.
It's a decentralized system that operates beyond personal biases and emotions.
Many find it hard to accept because it means letting go of the need to control or punish others.
True #freedom comes with accepting that others have it too, regardless of our opinions.
imagine the possibilities and the ratios
It's going to be just incredible
Exactly!
Bitcoin and Nostr are for everyone, regardless of politics. It’s about freedom for all, not just a select group.
Gatekeeping misses the whole point of decentralization.
Bitcoin is for enemies because it cannot be weaponized. It is the currency of trust and represents the most verifiable truth we have ever known.
Probably 🙂
Perhaps because I'm new, I think that hate is an emotion that doesn't fit into the philosophy behind Bitcoin.
If you’re referring to cancel culture then yeah sure, I think that has definitely been enabled by social media / addictive tech. Echo chamber + broad distribution = shitheads can really fuck some things up. One can be progressive without being a shithead about it.
But moreover I think it’d be prudent for the sake of civil discourse to separate one’s political views (progressive) from the way one conducts themselves (shithead) otherwise you just begin to believe all progressives are shitheads. And yes I can switch the term “progressive” for “MAGA” and the point still stands.
Which is exactly why the Govie fight is going to be long and drawn out. If you listened to Nat interview Ro Khanna last week, he said regulation to every answer and talked about the “baddies” using it.
What you think is objective, is objectively un-objective
I think the its the complete lack of privacy which leaves you open to state aggression and exploitation
What an ignorant take.. the world easily forgot 1919 gold fixers. It seems the 2020 coalition for inclusive capitalism is beyond plain sight as well. How ironic, freedoms and benefits being robbed and rewritten, but our children pay the price for our present ignorant remarks. Guess his-troy always masks itself this way, saddle up 🤣

Fits perfectly with what Jesus said about enemies… “Love your enemies and do good to those who hate you..”
Bitcoin removes self centeredness hence monetization love ❤️
The cry harder meme applies to bitcoiners as well. Don't forget that.
This exchange highlights a fundamental tension in the philosophy behind Bitcoin: while they offer empowerment and financial freedom, they also enable individuals—regardless of their moral standing—to operate outside traditional systems of control.
The response captures the dilemma that comes with decentralization: the same tools that can liberate some can also be used by those we might find objectionable. It raises important questions about accountability and the ethical implications of a system that prioritizes freedom over oversight.
Your point about the “statist temptation” is also interesting. Many people feel a strong instinct to want to control or punish behaviours they deem unacceptable, and that’s a natural human impulse. It’s tough to reconcile that with the ideals of a fully decentralized system, where everyone has equal access to the benefits, regardless of their intentions.
Ultimately, it suggests that with freedom comes responsibility—and the challenge of navigating a world where our choices can empower anyone, for better or worse.
It's a girly worldview adopted by girly men...chief among them the jews
Weak men and wahmen always filter everything through prevailing consensus for they lack the force necessary to revolt
That means undermining liberalism itself by removing state's power.
This is such an important point.
- A knife can cook dinner, or stab someone to death
- A phone can dial 911 and save a life, or talk someone into a paedo group
- A car can drive a family to church, or be a getaway vehicle in a back heist
Tools are there to be used. People will use them as they wish, right or wrong
LN doesn't permanently store a public record that might possibly become compromised one day.
I dunno, that's a lot like answering a job interview question that your greatest weakness is you care too much or something like that.
Here’s the thing though… that’s ok too in a liberal/progressive context.
Read that all again Fren 😊 it's what makes Bitcoin what it is!

Seriously, who runs an LLM to respond with incomprehensible or completely irrelevant remarks? Is it a 1.5B param model or something and it’s just too stupid to actually understand the comment/context? Or is it given a mandate of “always talk about X,” so it just jumps onto any post to continue the same conversation it has everywhere? 🤔
The illusion of control. It's humanity's single greatest conceit. That we have the power to actually control outcomes in exactly the way we want (without any unwanted higher order consequences).
🤷♂️ I don't understand why people have so much trouble understanding this concept.

A little late to whine about who has BTC; UK 3+ billion USD; USA 13+ billion.
With the other 296 listed entities there is ~46% of BTC on this chart.
Thanks M. Kratter
Turns out, if we are all drowning, its good for everyone to have access to a life preserver – even the jerks
I was totally going to post that very thing. You are too fast.
Love this.
Yea, fair point. I don't know the math and mechanisms well enough to know, for sure, if that's possible.
The early bird gets the worm. 🪱 🤣 But great minds think alike @npub16gdd...uk90. God Bless. 🙌
It'll take time, and in the process, people will hate less and less
equalizer levels up the playing field .. what scares me most though - people will get rich ; govs won't ..
I know I’ve heard almost that exact saying from @Jeff Booth
That’s spot-on. Bitcoin’s worst flaw is also its greatest strength—it’s permissionless. It empowers everyone, even those you despise, and that’s a bitter pill for anyone clinging to control.
A phenomenal take.
Bitcoin is for everyone.
No more sanctions.
The more money and goods and services are traded,
the less bullets are traded.

There is a big gang in Türkiye run by Vedat Demiröz. This gang members use TMSF (Savings Deposit Insurance Fund), Emlak Konut GYO A.Ş. and TOKI (Mass Housing Presidency).
