I think the catch is that it'll require big names with large followings on competitor platforms. Maybe Nostr should be shilled as something that creators can use alongside their centralized shit.
Primal are the only ones with an advertising budget but they waste that money on something else. So it's literally just people like me making tiktok videos about nostr and spamming people's comments sections asking if they're on nostr

I could donate accounting but yall are replacing me with AI.
Shilling for Kash petel and Blackrock isn't going to bring more people to Nostr. If anything shit like that just drives people away from both nostr and Bitcoin. Nobody wants to be associated with these pedophile scum.

Ive have you know that i have been on a tonn of super marginal podcasts!... No offense @Havok πŸ˜…
It’s really hard. FOSS has a weird stigma attached to it. And people don’t move platforms unless their friends all move - and it had to be a significant number or they just go back. See mastodon, see the crypto social network forget name
We are really going to have to build this thing out. Shit is getting real.
I remember you doing those billboards and trying your damndest to get anyone here to care. I think at that time, we had a lot of idealists thinking nostr will win because its superior tech so we dont need marketing. Clearly that was the wrong attitude/approach. Not only do we need everyone rowing... we need to be doing it coordinated and in unison, not randomly each on our own.
True marketing & advertising people won't apply their skillset until they see an opportunity to make money off of someone else making money... so instead you have a bunch of users with varying degrees of marketing skills, attempting solo guerilla marketing. Some loose organizing among those willing to advocate for various apsects could amplify the impact. Trying this with a few people, in our own way. We'll see how it goes. 🀞
i am here bc of the old frens, not bc it is nostr and i like keeping my real life and nostr life separate, therefore not inviting my irl frens here either
Large-scale social change, when you're fighting network effects, is a hard thing... But it can work. I see the same thing with the shift from suburban living to urbanism over the past ~20 years or so. Back in the 90's, urban downtowns were places you (maybe) visited in the Daylight hours to work, then quickly fled back to the suburbs at 5 pm. It's taken generational change, and there are still ongoing fights with NIMBYism, but millennials and younger generations have started to see the benefits of dense urban living. Likewise, we're at a point in history where the internet has basically been "colonized" by The Platforms. Hopefully we don't need a "generational" timescale to change things, but it's going to be a gradual process....
Do you really want to know how a wave of teens and privacy aware people after social media block looks like? Nostr may not be able to hold for one hour under those conditions. A shitstorm of clursterfuck proportions doesn't even get close to a proper description. But it will happen sooner or later on Nostr too. I just hope it will have enough relays to not collapse in the first hour

Most if not all public relays are hosted on rented servers. Scaling will not be a problem. They might lower write limits to limit cost, but kind 1 and 0 events will be unaffected since they take up virtually no space. The first to fall will be the free media hosts like nostr.build but this will honestly be good imo because it will result in a relative increase in attention to all the people who pay for hosting or host themselves. It will mean that the million new kids won't completely take over the space, but they will be subject to the influence of the based MFs here that host their own shit.
Doing my part, making awkward autistic posts on Discord about "hey you guys should really try Flotilla! Enshittification!!"
Rabble's been marketing DiVine pretty well. I'm getting more reactions on my videos since the launch.
Gm , I am writing a chapter about Nostrica in my upcoming book. I write how I felt about meeting the developers in person. We are the future. Hope to do more work soon. Good day πŸ˜ƒ

To promote to who? It's not geared for the public. If it was, marketeers would be queueing around the block, as would customers. It's too complex for the man on the street. It's a brilliant platform, yet to really show why and yet to have it's day,. Today it's a dev look and feel. However, with time on its side, it's all ahead to design a cleaner experience for both the advanced and the masses and for the marketeers to arrive to benefit for it's clear architectural advantages once they're better understood ✌️⭐✨
1. Add a referral sistem to aps with SATs as earnings 2. Add default relays to use with the app, until they learn how it's working 3. Remove the fucking WOT, because people are already "banned" when they join, not even Twitter, or Facebook are banning or shadow banning you when you register. These are just a few of what you can do first! 🀘
Some of the comments here are so disappointing. There are many great advocates for nostr who are not devs. Creatives, writers, marketers and other professionals need the right incentives to donate their time and effort. Bitcoin itself offers enough stored value to free up time - that's why it attracts time-investment from many deep skillsets (not just technical types). Nostr is great. It offers a wonderful network of freedom-minded people. It offers hope for a decentralized better digital world. But, at the moment, it does not incentivise experts to invest time without any ownership in the clients and services they promote. I hope this changes in time. But rather than create a pile on by pointing the finger at those not donating their life to nostr, why not ask what they need to come on board?
every day I feel that this is needed. I see that many create clients that offer all kinds of options, but I don't see anyone talking about clients anywhere, in fact I still see that they talk more about bitcoin than about the advantages that this place offers compared to traditional pages. many times I don't know why they don't talk about how NOSTR can solve the problems that many are experiencing with the age verification laws that are being imposed on them and the persecutions that they are experiencing just for one publication. and since the nature of this protocol allows them to talk and be able to publish things without having to hand over a lot of personal data or even offers them absolute control of what they publish due to the flexibility of the protocol of being able to recover files from any site without having to depend from a single central server.

Things that are amazing don't need marketing.
Already post 3 years travel content but you can see like last week events like Las Vegas get more attention even here than high signal events like @Bitcoin FilmFest πŸ˜‰ what is all creators. People stay people even when they got Bitcoin :) Be the change like you now do with you app wisp. It’s all about less talk, more POW :)
derek is a special case. he is super polite, very well-liked, super smart and enthusiastic about nostr. most significantly, he’s well-connected and funded. if there are to be other effective β€œmarketers” to grow nostr, it will also have to be funded. funding by either independently wealthy folks w lots of time n energy or funding to plebs who need income to have the cognitive bandwidth to do extra things (even things they really care about). & at this stage, you can’t just advertise nostr. marketing is not a fitting concept.
I may hope we don't see it because they're not posting it on nostr. But nah they're probably elsewhere because they actually care about making money

Radio ads would be hilarious and maybe successful. I think they are supposed to be cheap
I recall this coming up before and it doesn’t fit the criteria of what OpenSats supports, but I don’t remember specifics. My reply was mostly tongue in cheek anyway. There have been nostr marketing and promotion efforts at various conferences the last couple years, and lots of grassroots word of mouth posts on other platforms by nostr users. Ultimately Nostr needs companies trying to turn a profit and those companies need to market what they have to offer. And there’s no reason existing Nostr projects couldn’t partner with willing users who have marketing skills to promote what matters to them. Could be done on a pro bono basis, or in exchange for other services, or whatever agreed to terms.

Ok this is why IMO nobody should hate small zaps… Compare them to likes… Daily users can’t afford to spend/donate dollars per day But would be best if they supported more different content to welcome more people

Until you don't get enough WOT points, you are not being seen by those who are using WOT relays, they are filtering people which they don't trust. Something similar to recaptcha 😊, you have to prove that you are human, and you need to be approved, followed, liked, reposted by some big accounts, otherwise you may not be seen, and wait for months to get some engagement. Something like that
I don't know, I wasn't interested in this because I thought it's a shit from the beginning, after I've seen it for the first time I was thinking that it's a stupid thing to do if you want to bring more people here. As I said, not even Twitter or Facebook has done this in the early days, and they are not doing it now. This is my conclusion: when you join nostr you are shadow banned, simple as that. You are ok, don't be afraid about this. The answer is: the relays owners, and you as a person if you choose to use a WOT relay or not.
