I want to see someone do an experiment where they try to live for a month on what they earn from zaps WITHOUT announcing first that they’re doing it. Run the experiment, document it, and then post the results afterwards. The results would be more accurate.

Sheeet, I saw a dude begging for someone to pay for his 2800 sat smoothie, now he wants me to fill up his car with premium?!
But look this meme 👀🤣 note1p83gknv9tzverdjpwnmz44tt4xd8yeju0763g0kv49utppwwtfpqdxzzne
Yea, don’t get me wrong I like seeing the demonstrations like he’s doing. It helps show that value can be moved seamlessly anywhere in the world. We see a lot of demonstrations like this, though. It would also be interesting to see if someone can really earn enough from zaps to live on.
Would this be testing whether value4value really works or if there are enough people on ~Nostr~ to make it possible to sustain someone's lifestyle? Because if it's the former, I think fiat spaces like only fans has already proved value4value works.
I aspire to be able to make a living from it, but it's a tough start to make a name for yourself on Nostr. I work hard and stay focused 🫡
What the fuck do you mean "more accurate," retard? Where's the part of the definition of "accuracy" that says baseline unrequested zaps can be accurately tracked but requested zaps can't? You have me muted so you wouldn't answer if you had an answer, but you also have no answer, and the reason you muted me is because I often call out your bullshit where you have no answers for being called out
Yea V4V works given the right circumstances (access to banking services in the US, for instance), so this would more a test of whether someone on nostr can use nostr and zaps to earn enough to cover their cost of living. I imagine if it’s possible at all, it would only be in certain parts of the world where cost of living is relatively low.
Jokes apart.. After 2 years exactly of #zaps, considering value fluctuations in FIAT terms, I approximately made an average calculation of how much dollar per months have received on #nostr. I estimated 1/2 dollar per day, can't say sats as I said, the average number of sats per zap diminished diring time. It's very average and again we must calculate that at start of zaps, and for first 2/3 months the average was almost 10k sats a day (I remember posting daily invoices for coffees of 5k sats (less than 1€). Of course another consideration is I didn't post as much and regularly during this 2 years and seasonally I post much less durin summer period. All of this considered, and if you add that I also zapped back of course, less than what I received, but still more than half, plus paid for services that I needed for shitposting better, like two nostrbuild sub and various relays.. and considered I live in Italy, where you need at least 1000€ a month to not be considered almost poor.. I am far by living from #zaps ahahah Maybe if I go live in Costa Rica and start shitpost more often 🤣😂🍀💜🧡
Never say sorry to me if you're genuinely trying your best. I can't tell due to my paranoia and people who are genuinely trying their best are not who I mean to attack
I try to do my best every day. But to apologize is not to show weakness. I apologize for having misunderstood the message because I read it too quickly, it's my fault.
Thank you for understanding. I appreciate your willingness to acknowledge the situation. Let's move forward in a more positive way 🤝
Just my own observations is that most of the time when people are zapped a lot it’s either related to some sort of “fundraiser” even if it’s just impromptu, or it’s treated as a demonstration or proof of concept. “Welcome to nostr, Twitter-famous person. Here’s a bazillion zaps on your first post.” The real test I think is whether people who engage in V4V can do so consistently and see a relatively consistent amount of sats coming in from zaps.

Maybe we could change the experiment to living from the zaps now and trying to do the same with the same amount of sats in 5 years or so! Just an idea. For me it ist quite sure that I would starve immediately. LOL
I do think right now zap amounts are low because there isn't enough Bitcoin flowing through Nostr. It's not a circular economy until we have a way to pump Bitcoin to people while they are on Nostr who can then zap content they like. (See #attentionmarketplace) Right now everyone is either passing the same Bitcoin back and forth or a generous Satoshi millionaire is just throwing it around. That's not sustainable and probably why this may only work for now in a handful of countries.

haven't ever received any zaps on here. So would be dead in about a week 😃
I did it. After 5 months, I received 19,000 sats and some of them I sent to myself. I’ve bought more sats from the @primal store than I received.
Very few skills can provide value to the public over the internet. Over the past 20 years, the one that clearly dominated this space was making videos (entertainment/education). Everything else is very niche.
Doesn’t matter to me so much what they have to do, but how they approach it. By announcing it first people start to donate out of charity because they are excited to see it succeed. Nothing inherently wrong with that, but it skews the experiment. Those are not earned sats, they are gifts.
I did not mention anything about how to start. Not sure why you focused on this point. I don’t disagree with it, if announced, people will definitely try to help, skewing the results. Though, if the content is really not valuable, the charity will fizzle. Even if pre-announced.
I focused on that point because it is the crux of the point i was making in my original post above. Discussing what does and doesn’t work for providing value was what you chose to focus on, and it’s not the main point I was trying to make.
Good point. Self-promotion is important. I think there is a difference, though, between an artist promoting their work in a hope to monetize it vs. what amounts to essentially asking for handouts.
Nostr gave me a connection error message, so I pressed the send button several times, waited a few seconds each time, and it still gave me the same connection error message until I gave up. I saw that it was posted several times after a few minutes, but I don't know how to delete posts.
