should I nuke the damus relay and start over? πŸ€” some notes may be lost.

Go for it! One other question tho… Could t be an option in clients to turn on and off delete note events? Making deleted notes visible? Why can a dude delete shitty comments he made then pretend he wasn’t being a complete ass?
Currently they are only on your local device is my understanding. Your bookmarks are not stored on any relay. Damus has yet to add nip-51 support for bookmarks.
I understand the bookmarks are stored locally. my concern is if those are somehow refreshed/reloaded, and the only copy was on the damus relay, they would be gone.
Gotcha 🀝 Could you disconnect it without permanuking? If it *were* bad, better not to punish normies?
will do the poor mans backup for manually clicking β€œbroadcast” on each bookmark, so it gets replicated to my relay
I was thinking about this last night and the year it’s been, I wish there was a site where it could temporarily be archived, so it could be searchable for research and downloadable yes, nuke it
Can somebody explain whats all about o going on. See a lot about nuking but dont 100% understand what will/could happen and what is meant bei that. That english isnt my native language doesnt make it better. What will it affect, will i recognaize it as a non tech guy, Do i have to make a New Account or loose follows/followers etc ?
I hope so to! But we don't know 🀷 It being one of the largest relays, I just thought there could be a point to it. Alt. just do it and let people learn the hard way x) But, some sort of heads up I think is better for relay reputation.
Maybe give a window for users to download notes? 7 days? Idk just thinking mostly about users who have only ever used Damus with the default 4 relays it comes configured with and don’t understand this part of nostr yet, or how to backup their data.
Yes I buy that argument, it's solid. We just don't know how many Damus users use nostr as if it's a twitter, and a normie user might think it works the same; then one day wake up with all notes gone. Then think, "naw bad quality service." Due to Damus being one of the largest onboarding to nostr, and it being one of the largest relays; I think at least on the first data purge a notification could be prudent. The notification could even mention; "On free relays beware data may be purged, here's a backup option, and remember to post to more than one relay. The Damus relay, is purged next week on xDay. Expect no notifications in the future."
Might help with bandwidth too as it'd be static for egress and maybe even faster data query? Could use rumbledb.org
strfry is faster than any adhoc solution you throw together. Its faster than static reads
Thanks for all your service to this community. We don't know what we don't know, and who knows how your contributions will effect future generations.
Cool. Would be nice to be able to add custom relays to the export, or is that already supported?
