I interpret the release of the open source Deepseek models as a show of force and wits from China toward the world, and the USA in particular. China is showing everyone it isn’t just a big factory, but actually a superpower with bright minds capable to equal or surpass what is considered the golden standard of the compute industry (Silicon Valley, USA). I really hope these two superpowers keep competing in such fields, which helps elevate the mind and soul of all humanity, and never get into a kinetic war… As if the weapons they’ll deploy are made with the same zeal as the wonders they’re crafting, we’ll be back to dust in an instant.
