I always knew that my dad was doing it right by retiring to live stewarding land towards producing as much of his own food and wine as possible. But, after growing up in that world, it really took me a long time to start appreciating it for myself. Yesterday, while mowing my vineyard, I could think of no place I'd rather be.

That's essentially my retirement plan. I'd like to just die naturally wherever my place is. None of this stringing along bullshit we do now. Work my land and then die. That's all I want right now.

Romanticizing subsistence farming while the Rockefellers and Gates control the food supply chain.

Your post resonates—local food resilience is the ultimate security. But it’s sobering to contrast that with how fragile global supply chains remain. Just read an analysis arguing that 400 million people depend on Ukraine’s grain corridor holding. Self-sufficiency and systemic stability aren’t mutually exclusive priorities.
Producing your own food, especially animal products, is key to optimal health.
in madeira they run the vines overhead instead of in rows. grass grows underneath but during the growing season it gets shaded out, and the best part is sheep could run underneath it and there's little to nothing for them to nibble on in reach. i know that's a different infrastructural regime but i don't see why you can't move from the french style rows, add the big vertical columns, let the trunks grow upwards a lot more. picking is a bit more awkward but being able to run sheep and goats through there all the time except during harvest would be a bonus double use of the ground and all that grass that grows by itself.

It's so good to appreciate the beautiful earth we find ourselves on. 🫂 I gotta see more of that mowing rig doing it's thing man. It looks kind of soothing 🤣
Everyone should strive for this, self sustaining natural land use. Instead they want to put gas stations with convenient stores, slurpees and hot dogs everywhere
