Def has a founding base. Like any other network did in the past.

My main issue with nostr is that it seems like the people here are almost exclusively laser-eye maxis. When I want to reach those guys, I don’t need a special app: I just tweet on Twitter with carefully selected trigger keywords, and sure enough, one of them will screenshot it and post here and make sure all laser-eyes see it. Are there some non-laser-eyes here? Make yourself known in the comments!

the founding base being bitcoin is beneficial rather than detrimental! If not for bitcoiners on nostr id still be in the dark ages

Honestly given how beta mode this place is I think it is okay that it is small. Let people discover it in six months when this thing can basically be the entire web 2.0 in one cryptographic login and web 2.0 has committed ai induced seppukku and fully imploded.
Bitcoiners will provide the steady base of use from which nostr can be developed upon -- kind of like ordinals and the fee market, except it's real.

Not worth it. False premises, false conclusions, mixed with with grandstanding.
My main question is what is being done to onboard people into the app? I'm here, I'm new... not sure how to use it.... most other zoomers/millenials would have a far lower attention span and have moved on by now.... I'd like to find out more... not sure where to go for reliable info on it tho...

Udi teams up with scammers like Bitboy and wonder why people don’t take him seriously or respect him
The number of people here is not what the network optimizes for (in comparison to twitters, facebooks, etc). As far as I can tell the network optimizes for utility. The more useful it is, the better. The number of people is a second effect of that, but the number of people isn't that important.

Udi is a fraud scammer lmao Literally a retard
He's right that catering to the bitcoin maxis will crimp the network's growth. Normal people are not yet using btc, and if they feel they have to bitcoin to nostr, they just won't nostr.
udi i’m not (tho i’m clearly in the minority lol). i’m a music head before much else i kinda like the niche nature of users here. but i’m confident nostr will diversify in time
makes sense lol. #bitcoin maxis aren’t about that life. try #lensprotocol and #farcaster to find those types. and of course there’s plenty of #NFT and #web3 enthusiasts on twitter
i don’t believe the focus is necessarily to onboard folks. i’m of that demo and I’m here just cuz i like exploring new social mediums and i have an appreciation for emerging tech. but this protocol isn’t the type that’s gonna very actively invest in onboarding folks who don’t β€œget it” as that doesn’t necessarily contribute to the nature of the ecosystem #nostrnewb and #asknostr have some info and @HoloKat is a good person to follow. always sharing stuff for new people. also good ol youtube tutorials were pretty helpful to me i see nostr as a create your own adventure sort of deal and you bump into folks along the way that help you or can relate to you on your journey have fun and peep #grownostr for the β€œnormal” stuff

Udi, you’ve been around long enough to see how these things go. Twitter was always viewed as the β€˜weird’ platform by allowing pseudonyms to tweet with its strict character limit because Jack wanted to make sure mobile users can participate. Eventually politicians and β€˜normal’ people hopped on board. I’m far from a laser eyed maxi, but it’s not surprising that nostr attracted a certain crowd first. The great thing is that it will continue to spread out over time. Don’t fall for the trap of viewing this like an old bulletin board. Those things still exist, but these platforms are open to all with no central topic.
I agree on boarding needs work and the general user experience in most of the clients needs work. But it's a space in rapid development and I think the next 5 years will look great for Nostr as a protocol. Personally, I am here to find other BTC Maxis. I am not on board with the whole laser eyes thing, it's a tad cringe to me, same with wizards.

My 2nd day β€œactive” and …….it’s gonna make it…….
Every platform or protocol has to start somewhere. Nostr was founded by and is being developed by hardcore Bitcoiners. It's obvious that it's going to attract more like minded folks. Plus, there's the fact that Nostr's ethos melds well with Bitcoin's ethos. Nostr is a screaming beacon of decentralized freedom, making all Bitcoiners eventually migrate to the protocol. Every platform or protocol needs a base. Wether it's Bitcoin maximalists or boating enthusiasts. Eventually, other groups of people start seeing it's benefits and start to check it out. I've told Udi before and I'll say it again, bring your community here. Build here. The vast majority of Nostriches welcome new users.
Should we call the NOSTR CEO? In all seriousness, I’m happy he’s here. I don’t agree with a lot of the things he says but I enjoy having perspectives like his around. Every kingdom needs a few jesters.
I haven't spent nearly as much time on those platforms as I have here, but I'll say that the choice seems obvious. You can build whatever you want here. It's beautiful. You can't say that about anywhere else. Make an Ordinals focused client. That seems like it would be a dream for the JPEG gang. Right?

I just got on there, but it’s very very early. You see flashes of potential, but you’d likely spend more time on nostr for the time being. Whenever I get invites I’ll post it on here for those who want to check it out.

Were the founding bases of prior networks of such a specific ideological demographic though?
I've been into btc since late 2010, not the very first, but certainly not late to the game either......
I don't see how nostr is going to survive or thrive without attracting new people and being more welcoming.... and recognising diversity in the value people can bring to the platform outside of blockchain, and recognising that this does not mean that such people are not in fact btc OGs...

any thoughts on threads yet? have u tried it?
I'm definitely not that. I am just an old school internet person who has been hurt too many times by the thing I love and built a career on, and want to find something/someone to trust/believe in again... and try to figure out how to be a part of it all, but am just... jaded and tapped out these days. I already have perfectly fine eyes the way they are, no lasers pls. Just a delivery on the promise we made to users, and to make it right.
Nostr can perfectly exist as a niche social media platform without attracting new users. Dark web forums are a good example.
