Another flaw in the Bitcoin community is that UX is constantly overlooked.
Zeus is great, I use Zeus, but how can I recommend Zeus to my favorite farmer?
Wallet of Satoshi with Spark is the best I can give him if I want him to keep custody and make it as easy as possible, like it or not, with all the trade-offs that come with using Spark.
The end justifies the means, and if Wallet of Satoshi is the most widely used wallet, it is precisely because of its great UX, and Apple taught us this too, even though they no longer adhere to one of their main dogmas.
More pragmatism and less idealism, otherwise we will continue as we have been, losing the war.

There are many other solutions for that farmer... and one of them is that YOU should be his "LN bank" offering a proper easy wallet.
Pushing him into WoS is the last thing you should think about. And you know very well all the implications in using that GARBAGE.
I've explained in one of my guides how to be a LN bank for friends and family, is the best way out there to onboard people you know:

DarthCoin Guides
Private banks over The Lightning Network
How to manage a Bitcoin LN routing node for a more private use as an “Uncle Jim” Bank for yourself, for your friends and family

That’s not a problem of the Bitcoin community in particular. It’s a problem most open source projects struggle with.
To be fair Satoshi shipped a basic UI right with version 1. So that everyone can use it. The removal of such UI is a big problem
2 better options:
Option 1: Your farmer install AlbyGo and you define his profile in your AlbyHub. This is a trusted approach and first step to later autohost his own AlbyHub.
Option 2: Phoenix. It just simply works and the UX is pretty decent.
While I understand what you're saying, I don't want the merchant to have to trust me, nor do they have to be my friend.
WoS is a very specific case, I mentioned it because I consider it the best UX, I could also recommend Blink (and I do) even though it's custodial and totally open source.
In fact, Blink is the most widely used wallet in many Bitcoin communities in South America.
Ultimately, what I'm saying is that there's nothing wrong with it. Do I like Spark? No, but I prefer to be able to bring people into Bitcoin with WoS so they have a good experience, and then whatever happens, happens.
And you know I'm also a Liquid user; I'm a hopeless case of pure, unadulterated idealism 😂.
From my point of view, the right thing to do is to be informed and use the different protocols, but understanding and being consistent with the trade-offs.
I have reached a point where I just want Bitcoin to be used as much as possible.
I completely agree with Phoenix, but not with Alby's part because I don't want to offer services to anyone.
The idea is that my message is understood.
However, Phoenix isn't useful for payments of, say, $1 at first either...
Imagine that my favorite farmer sells me $2 worth of tomatoes the first time... first, a larger amount has to be deposited to open the channel... in the end, it's all UX inconveniences.
I stopped onboarding stupid people. Is totally useless when people are too dumb for Bitcoin.
I will onboard only people that deserve and really want to understand Bitcoin.
Onboarding en mass is not good for Bitcoin.

I'm an absolute newb 🙋♂️ (also very happy to dig around in the weeds for best means with no regards to UX). I also have a lot of experience of conveying to normies something complex. Coms and execution via simple, intuitive UX/UI is mega. WoS is bang on.
I saw people that they can't even understand how to use WoS.
In the village I live, there are many people that don't even have a proper phone for WoS or never used an email. Those are the farmers here that will never use bitcoin. Is impossible, I tried and failed miserably with them.
Yes, some other farmers, younger and smarter were listening my advice and get onboard, some of them even run their own Zeus, some of them are using my private LN bank.
This is how I live effectively on Bitcoin for some years now, surrounded by a small group of bitcoiners providing me the basic needs.
Agreed! @Zaza is the best UXer in the space (tbf the only good one it seems). It’s still early days though. Maybe with time we’ll get more people using proper design practices to create flawless products that more people will want to use. 🤞
