New to nostr but totally feel at home. Love to learn, love testing and breaking things. Stupid questions incoming. Dad & Plonka. Rational Criticism is the way. Decentralised is the future. Freedom is the goal.

"elasticated pants, Tom Jones” was not the significant AI prompt I was expecting to use today, but somehow it's really helped clarify a fucking bonkers, next level idea I've had. This is gonna stew now, but a the Welshmans waistline has helped me progress my thoughts. Don't ask. Or do.

"I think humans are really awesome. I think technology is really awesome because technology is then put into the hands of humans who are awesome." (Wier, 2026). Unlike the above, if you load a statement with your context and your perspective you're only fucking with your self. Be rational and optimistic.

(AI + Privacy)/low cost * absolute normie = a pretty difficult set up. - local llama3.2:3b on 8G RAM is OK - Venice AI (API) for complexity - Brave Search API for up-to-date shit Rate my set up. I ain't got money for a mini Mac or spunking up API bills. Any tips? I'm very happy to spend time on set up and trying stuff. That said, I'd love to hear about any setups that are super simple.....and still private.....and cheap. #AI #asknostr #normie #skint

Fuck me, compling and putting my details in to a home insurance policy website feels dirty. Way too many personal details for my liking.

Only being with family and going to the pub stops me going on my phone and checking Nostr. I like it this way.

To anyone holding back from vibe coding (yes I know I'm pretty late to the party), just give it a go! Normies 🙋‍♂️ its liberating! In 6hrs I've managed to create my own "Bills Analyzer". Upload a doc, updates to a dashboard, keeps track of due dates and recommends better deals available. Yes, it's a very basic app, yes I could sign up to service, but I want a bespoke and private solution the family can use. This is just the start.

I'm peeling the carrot the wrong way apparently.

I keep getting frustrated with my personal progress, and then I check in and think of what I've actually achieved and learnt in the past 9 months. From a full blinkers-on standing start (in no particular order): 1. discovered crypto, blitzed through the shitcoin phase, and landed at Bitcoin, Zcash and a handfull of other alt coins. Utility, community and privacy being my main objectives. 2. went from using custodial wallets and CEXs to 100% self-custody. This obviously meant I had to learn about securing my keys and having back ups. 3. I'm currently halfway through The Odin Project learning CSS, html and Javascript. Yes in the age of vibecoding who cares, but I like to learn fundamentals. 4. I know what GitHub is now (whoop) and use it occasionally. I will commit something at soon. 5. Installed Linux on a VM. I'm yet to ditch Windows but I'm less dependent on it now and really enjoy Linux. I thought it would be scary, but I see myself fully switching at some point. 6. Obviously I've discovered Nostr, and all that it brings. There's plenty of shit I don't really understand and loads of shit I enjoy. Its also been a really good lesson in Lightning Network usecase. 7. My personal OPSEC is improving, discovering DNS, router and VPN levels of protection, switching where possible to protocols over apps and at least becoming aware of metadata. I have a lot still to learn but from zero knowledge to where I stand now, I'm happier. 8. I've also binned off Facebook and Insta (still use WhatsApp), went from a heavy Google and MS user to now a very light touch. No cloud or default accounts, just Windows, Maps and Play to learn to live without. Slowly. 9. AI is definitely becoming more prominent in my life, still much more chatbot than agentic, but privacy concerns have slowed me down. Currently running an local LLM. Agents will happen but gotta learn to walk first. 10. the whole blockchain and decentralized world that exists originally blew my mind. It now really chimes with me. All this in just 9 months, and I'm pretty sure I'm glossing over and forgetting quite a bit. This actually gets me pretty excited for the next 9 months and beyond. Shit moves pretty fast these days, but I'm somehow here, going my own pace. Well ayeeee!!!!!!!! #nostr #nostrdevs #plebs #plebchain

I popped to the bank earlier today and was stood about 5m away from a poor bloke at the cash desk. He wasn't comfortable, confident or familiar with modern banking. His words "the money just goes out" and "I just want to get £80". In the 3 or so minutes I was there he gave away his name, DOB and mothers maiden name as the member of staff made no attempt at any level of privacy or compassion when interrogating him. Maybe a low tone of voice or a private room to explain stuff. Nope. Nothing. I fear more for the staff member tbh than the poor bloke, as he probably rarely interacts with money, data or privacy (was jealous tbh). Whereas the staff member simply didn't have a clue, yet she sits there in her authoritarian suit and little cravat, behind the glass clicking away on the computer like she knows it all. Slippery slope? It's fucking vertical and covered in grease.
