HOME REMEDIES 🍲 I want to gather all the -tried and tested- home remedies from you guys and girls on nostr. I’m guessing there’s a TON that we can share with eachother on here. People seem to be built differently on nostr. It seems like the best advice and remedies are passed on and kept in a notebook somewhere. The problem is that those notebooks, and the people who wrote in them, are fading away. I do have a longer term plan for this - depending on the quality of info we get here. I’d like to compile the replies and compensate the contributors. But let’s start with this thread and see where it goes. Leave a note with your best home remedies. It could be for the flu, an open wound, unplugging a toilet, etc. Anything that you can think of that has WORKED for you. Drop them below and let’s have some fun with this. #asknostr

also there are lots of books with these…do your research
When i'm coming down with something, i load up on vit d and c for a few days. This seems to shorten the severity/duration of the illness. And i mean load up, like 10,000-20,000 iu of vit d. Only for 3-4 days.
Not really a "remedy" per se, but I've also found vigorous exercise during the day helps me sleep. When I'm a lazy bum I have terrible sleep, but when I come home from the gym physically exhausted i sleep like a baby
🤙 In high school, when I got a bad case in Algebra II, my classmate told me to believe I didn’t have hiccups; I didn’t really understand what she was talking about. But a moment later, no hiccups. And I’ve not had successive hiccups ever since. I think either she put a spell on me or it has to do with consciously relaxing my diaphragm

I've been thinking that it would be nice to have something similar to Wikifreedia for "how tos" or similar. We could get rid of all of the overpriced paywalls (books, etc) and people could rate how well a particular one works for them Could do the same for remedies @PABLOF7z
Same and we do zinc too. My wife didn’t believe me at first, we got sick with the same thing, and she watched me beat it in half the time. Now she’s a believer.

Vitamin D takes longer to work, but is MUCH needed. Severely underrated for immunity. Zinc + quercetin (or just zinc if no quercetin) can start working quicker. Just take it daily while you're sick.

Sweating depletes potassium. If you're doing strenuous exercise, doesn't hurt to pre-load with a bit of potassium and/or sip it with your drink throughout the workout. Works wonders for me.

Greetings from northern AB! Great thread Jor. I’ve got a couple of cures for which a malady already exists in the contributions so far, but they are both really effective. 1) Alleviate Muscle Cramps: Keep a small ziplock freezer bag of regular yellow mustard packets in your backpack or fannie pack, inside another small ziplock freezer bag. If you’re getting muscle cramps or charlie horses, suck back the contents of a few of the mustard packets, and slide the used ones into the outer ziplock bag for disposal when it’s convenient, instead of littering. Wildland firefighters often carry mustard packets for dealing with cramps due to the extreme physical demands of operating hand tools for hours on end. 2) Stop Hiccups: Continuously and without breathing through your nose even once during the exercise or stopping to catch your breath between swallows, take small sips of water or any beverage until you are absolutely forced to take a breath again. Your brain becomes so convinced that you are drowning (like when you are being waterboarded but in a less traumatic way) that your first breath will be extremely deep and stop the hiccup impulse. I learned this one as a variation on the “drinking water from a sports bottle while bending over with your forehead facing the earth” method about ten years ago and it has never failed to stop hiccups.

Soaking black t-shirts in vinegar & water before washing prevents fading. Cloves numb a toothache. You can peel a ripe mango on the edge of a glass. Mix coarse salt with shampoo for great hair & healthy scalp. If you need more, hmu 😂
DMSO for pain Oregano oil is a natural antibiotic Zinc for immune system boosting Sunlight Magnesium for many things (pain, memory, mood, sleep)
If you’re in a time-boxed eating diet, I’ve been having much success with LMNT first thing in the morning. No brain fog and no sluggishness.
If you have a wart, rub the inside of a broad/fava bean pod on it and bury the pod, within two weeks the wart will vanish.
I haven’t tried this myself, but I’ve heard it works from a few fellow golfers. For poison ivy Put a banana peel inside your sock and sleep with that on If it’s on a different part of the body, use a tensor to keep the banana on Potassium ✅

Disagree. Raw vegetables may have anti-nutrients which can be somewhat mitigated with fermentation or other methods.

Cavities and tooth issues (including rebuilding dentin and enamel) can be reversed with appropriate calcium and phosphorus intake from foods, as well as minimizing blood sugar fluctuations (such as with low carb diets).
Yessssss!!!! Make your own quinine: It is made out of the peelings of grapefruits and lemons and is great for cold and flu: Take the rind of 2-3 already washed organic grapefruits and 2-3 organic lemons. Take the peel only and cut it in small pieces. Place into a pot and cover with water about 3 inches above the peels. I use about 8 cups of filtered water. Bring to boil, lower the heat. Put a lid on and simmer for about 2-3 hours. Do not take the lid off of the pot till it cools completely as this allow the quinine to escape in the steam. Strain it. Transfer the liquid to a glass jar. Cover it and keep it in the fridge no longer than 14 days, after this time discard unused portion. For prevention take 2 tablespoons once a day. I take it alone, but you can also drink it as a tea, sweeten it with LOCAL honey; it will be bitter. If you feel sick, take 1 tablespoon every couple of hours to bring up the phlegm from your lungs. Discontinue as soon as you get better. If you take zinc with this recipe, the zinc propels the quinine into your cells for a much faster healing.
Really? If i leave out raw garlic exposed for 5minutes i lose almost all noticable benefits. Ive had koreans tell me you must try pickled garlic - nothing, it was waste of time. Others, try steamed garlic, nothing, no benefits. Others like you said to cook it, again, nothing no benefits. Raw garlic allows atleast my body to feel like it actually breathe quality oxygen & make me feel like I slept super deep overnight. It kickstarts natural moisture in my body (think of all the holes). All of a sudden I can eat restaurant food and not feel sick, or eat gluten or pizza and not feel sick, i can eat boatloads of sugar and not feel sick if garlic was taken in close proximity of those eating events. Cystic acne, if theres something deeper under my skin with no whitehead at the surface, garlic reduces or eliminates that lump within days that otherwise wouldve persisted for more than two weeks if I dont do garlic at all. It helps reduce sinus congestion issues i may be having. And its hard to avoid natural boners within 24hours of doing raw garlic no matter how used and abused I am. Work or jiu jitsu becomes easier as I have no more brain fog and can think more clearly.
Another home remedy that has worked for me: If you get gum on your clothes, put the clothing item in the freezer, then use a butter knife to scrape it off. It takes some time having refreeze it when it thaws while you’re scraping it but it works like a charm.
Holding breath works for me everytime as well. It’s more of a mindfuck to your body though so you have to really buy in haha

I'm really only disagreeing on the "raw everything" portion of the statement. Garlic, of course, is one of those exceptions.
An alternative to this is a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in warm water. Also helps with reflux. Tastes hideous though 😂
Oh "for everything" was to address for what ailments. Only raw garlic. I think you misunderstood my message.
n-acetyl-cystine (NAC) - a powerful anti inflammatory and antioxidant amino acid. If you have chronic inflammation issues this is a very useful tool. It chelates heavy metals so it's important to supplement zinc/copper if you take this long term. Black seed oil (satella nigella) - anti inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral (contains thymoquinone), immune system booster, shortens duration of colds and flus, and has a list of other benefits that goes on and on. I take this during illness and also before and during travel as a prophylactic.
As soon as you feel a sore throat or a cold you can do any number of these: Eat a raw onion 🌰 Stop drinking water, it allows the bacteria to spread more easily. Instead drink orange juice 🍊 because of its acidity. The longer your throat is coated in the acid juice the better. So sip it slowly throughout the day. Another option is squeezed lemon 🍋 with water. But don't use sugar, don't make lemonade. Get as much sun ☀️ as you can. Vitamin D is geat. Drink vitamin C. Look at your tongue in the mirror. Is it white? Brush that stuff off while you're brushing your teeth. Try very hard not to cough. Coughing makes the situation worse by irritating your throat. Focus on holding your breath when you get the feeling of coughing. Ignore the sensation of clearing your throat. Now the contradiction to the one above. Cough! Hard! But into the sink with your mouth open, tongue out, neck tilted up and your torso bent over forwards. Create a straight passageway from your lungs to your throat to the sink. Cough hard but only if phglem is coming out. Don't do it when your throat is dry. When phlegm is yellow it's still infested. When it's white you've beaten the cold and you can stop coughing into the sink. When you have a runny nose don't snort. Doing that transfers a runny nose into a throat infection. Don't blow your nose into tissue paper if you have another option. Tissue paper irritates your nose. A better option is blowing your nose into the sink. All infected fluids should come outwards. Don't swallow them. Blow your nose in public as much as you have to. Spit the stuff out if you have to.
Slippery Elm for a sore throat. And if you feel like you're coming down with a cold, this is something I use every single time and it seems to just blast it away unless I'm like actually getting sick sick is a mixture of mint tea with garlic, cayenne, honey and lemon.

Oregano oil is like a miracle when dealing with bacterial infections. I first used it on a swollen tooth that appeared on a New Year's Eve afternoon. All dentists were forwarding their calls to each other, so I searched for something that would help. Luckily, I bought a bottle of water with the oregano oil. I used to squirt tinctures directly on my tongue, since the alcohol sting never bothered me. Not after this incident. I love spicy food, and was not prepared for the atomic blast feeling that made my mouth burn like nothing I had felt before. If you take it internally, or apply to sensitive areas, ALWAYS DILUTE. Swishing my mouth every four hours, or so, had my swelling decreased by the next morning. The day after that, I had no symptoms at all. I continued my "swish" schedule for another day or two, just in case. It works best via direct application. This means if you have an infected cut on your finger, drinking oregano oil won't do much. Putting it directly on the infected cut, undiluted, will give you quick results.
I started using LMNT a few years ago, it’s been a game changer. Salt, potassium and mag
Jewel weed usually grows very near poison ivy, crush it and rub it on like a poultice, draws the toxins out
Congested with cough or clogged nose- Pour boiling water into a large deep serving dish and place on table, sit with your head over the hot water with a towel over your head, so to breathe in the steam. Add a little lemon rind or other herbs to the water if desired.

For many things, I just stop eating. Most times this works :)
Whenever you are sick ( flue, something chronic, cancer or something else, even mental diseases) you can heal yourself by fasting and drinking 3/4 gallon of salted water per day. (40g of grey sea salt per gallon of water) If you have no body fat, i would recommend the carnivore diet.
